Jessica Ridgeway's Remains Identified Week After The 10 Year Old Goes Missing

This was almost too sad to write about, but we're hoping with more information spread, the more help authorities will get to finding Jessica Ridgeway's brutal murderer.

The ten-year-old disappeared October 5 on her way to see some friends at the park.

That same weekend, her backpack was found in a residential area of Superior, Colorado. One week later, her mutilated remains are identified after being found in a park seven miles from her house.

Westminster police chief Lee Birk said in a statement:

"It is with a great deal of sorrow in my heart that I inform you that the body that was found in Arvada has been positively identified as Jessica Ridgeway. The mission has changed from a search for Jessica to a mission of justice for Jessica."

Her remains were said to be so terribly dismembered, it took days to properly identify them as hers. Absolutely heart-wrenching…

Luckily, the FBI is working with local police. They thing the guilty is most likely someone known or in the community and asks everyone to be on the look-out for unusual behavior.

If you know of anything that could help them find the abductor(s) or have a tip for the police, contact (303) 658-4336 or PDAmberAlert@cityofwestminster.us to help justice be served.

Rest in peace, poor Jessica…

This is truly a sad thing to hear. But thank you for posting information here, I do hope that they find the murderer and prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law. My prayers go out to the little girl's parents and family.

Re: MASRe: MAS – I see nothing wrong with posting this here. The more this is made public, the more aware we all are and the chances are better that this sick individual will be captured.

    This is so horrible.

Horrible. I heard her parents speak on the radio before they found her remains and they were so devastated. I can't even begin to imagine what it must feel like. Rest in peace sweetheart.

She was actually on her way to school, and the school failed to notify the parents more then once to let them know she did not show up, her mother did not know till eight hours later………I don't know where you get your information from but the gap in the school system is an important part of this story, the search for her could have been out much much sooner then eight hours later.

This is horrible, RIP and condolences to her family.

I can only hope and pray that she was killed before being dismembered.

Re: Meira Hillsworn – I live in Colorado. As far as I saw and heard the school followed procedure. They called and left a message. This is standard procedure for the schools here. One phone call home and a message if no one answers. In fact, at the schools I attended, it was an automated system. We have no way I knowing if the mother even ha a phone near her that would have woke her up f there were multiple calls.

Re: Wha? – He is trying to raise awareness to help catch this poor girls murderer. That does NOT make him a sicko. This is a great site to help get information out on because so many people come here for entertainment info. Don't spread hate.

Um this story is not 100% correct. First she was on her way to school not a park to meet friends. It happened in Westminister CO not Superior CO. Please make sure you get the story straight or noone will be able to help!!!

Re: Meira Hillsworn – the school actually DID notify the mother but since she works at night SHE didnt answer the phone nor did she call back to find out what was going on. The school DID what they were suppose to do!!

  14. 14

She disappeared waking to school and not "on her way to meet friends at a park". Her mother works nights and slept through the call from school informing her that her daughter was not there that day.

  15. 15

I can't imagine what this child went through or what her family and friends are going through now. It's likely the individual who committed this horrific act has been in trouble with the law before. Our society needs to step it up and do more to protect our children from predators and other types of abuse.

  16. 16

I stand corrected. On her way to school, she was to meet her friend at a park and walk together.

  17. 17

This is much too sad to write… but immagonna go ahead and put it on my blog for hits!

    Re: teeter totter
In California the school does not tell you over the phone if your child is or not in school you have to go in person to make sure you are the parent….My kids school is 5 minutes walking distance from my house, and I never let them walk by themselves specially after stories like this one. My heart goes out to the family….

  19. 19

Her family also live in my area in MO. RIP Jessica! May the MONSTER who did this rot with his master. Prayers to the family.

actually the school did call her but she works nights and had gone to sleep thus missing the call…talk about adding more pain to the situation..

My dead husband (who is spending eternity in Hell after he & his whore died in an unexplained house fire while committing adultery) and I never let out daughters go anywhere alone.

she was on her way to school not to the park. It took sometime to identify the body because it was not intact.

  23. 23

Once more we lose a soul who had the potential to find a cure for cancer, become president, and maybe even have brought peace to this awful world. Instead they were taken by it's vilest of it's entities.

Her loss resonates within the hearts of all who appreciate the singularity of human life; how the loss of one is a loss to all. The world is indeed a darker place without Jessica's unique light to guide it in new and innovative ways.

May her spirit be among the angels.

poor beautiful child omg how sick is this world

may angels watch over this angel

and may the sick fuc who did this get the electric chair

Kudos to you Perez for putting her story out there.. this horrible ending is way more important than any celebrity gossip. As the authorities mentioned, look for any behavioral changes/avoidance to this story in people that you know. It's a long shot, but someone somewhere is responsible for this horrific crime. Prayers to the family and all that loved this innocent child.

Re: DRe: D – He said her BACKPACK was found in Superior, which, IS correct. And, she was on her way to the park to meet friends, to walk to school with them… so that was half correct. I find it funny how some people are so quick to correct someone on their mistakes, yet, they themselves don't even have all their info correct.

She was abducted in Westminster, and found in Arvada. Her body was found on Wednesday, and identified on Friday. The school did call her mother to report that she did not show up at school, but because her mother works nights, she was asleep. Hence the fact that it was not reported til 8 hours later.

I can not imagine how that woman must feel right now. Being a mother myself, I would hate myself, even though it is not her fault…. it's that 'what if' moment… "What if I had heard the phone" or "What if I never went to sleep"… "Maybe she'd be here with me now". It is absolutely heartwrenching. I don't live in Westminster, I don't live in Arvada, I live in Lakewood, which isn't that far away. This guy could be anywhere (even in another state by now). My own son (9) is afraid to go out to play. He doesn't even want to go out in his own front yard alone. This has had a huge impact on everyone in this state. You hear about amber alerts all the time, but you don't feel the full emotional extent of it until it hits close to home, really close to home, and ending as badly as this one has. Everyone believed (and prayed) that Jessica would be found and returned to her family, now, everyone is in an emotional uproar. I am still in shock.

My heart goes out to Jessica's friends and family, and I pray that they capture this guy soon!

Thank you Perez for posting this. It really does mean a lot.

Re: Meira Hillsworn – Not sure where you got your information but the mother was asleep when the school called cause she works nights. The school did nothing wrong. How about you do some research next time before posting bullshit.
