Romney's PBS Threat Gets A Million Muppet March Response!

million muppet march sesame street romney protest

Elmo and Big Bird aren't going down without a fight peaceful protest!

When Mitt Romney made his now-infamous remarks about PBS (which stands for Public Broadcasting Service, btw), threatening to cut its funding to tackle the national debt, he shocked us all.

So Michael Bellavia, an El Lay animation executive, had the idea for a Million Muppet March. And after he bought the domain name for his brainchild, he then realized that Idaho student Chris Mecham had separately thought of the idea and made it's own Facebook page.

One phone call later and the two are now working together to get this protest moving!

Set for November 3 at the National Mall in D.C., the march created by these two Sesame Street fans is gaining steam! So be prepared for a lot of puppets and skits to go down at this love-fest!!

I can see Romney's logic here, PBS has been making millions and millions of dollars out of all the shows it makes, I know that the ELMO merchandise alone makes hundreds of millions, so why does PBS need government funding?

  2. 2

"Jim, you may want to move onto another topic." — I'm Barack Obama,
and don't want to talk about the mother of all fiascos in Benghazi, so let's go with the Muppet meme.

In short, Biden did nothing to reset the race, and the edge of panic is still there in the Obama campaign and presstitutes.

The sesame company makes hundreds of millions off merchandise, they can afford to pay for thier own broadcast or move to a network! They certainly don't need tax payer money … As for other pbs programs, who's even watching and why does the gov need to pay for it. Don't we have better programs ect this money could go to?

    Barack and Big Big:
    -
    They are:
    ● Congenial, almost too polite (first debate)
    ● On television every day
    ● Speak almost exclusively to young people who have been taught to adore them
    ● Have famous addresses
    ● They are both rich but still getting money from the government
    ● They avoid the complicated and stay with basics and generalities
    ● Both are scripted
    ● Both maintain an image whose mechanics are controlled by unknown persons
    ● No one is certain of their background prior to public life
    ● People who don't care for Big Bird are immediately branded mean-spirited and anti- avian
    ● They are each in a controlled environment
    ● Obama has an airplane called Big Bird
    ● Neither knows anything about Fast and Furious or illegal campaign contributions
    ● Neither has released their college records.
    ● The mainstream media maintains a protective love of both
    ● We don't know if Big Bird puts the Constitution in the bottom of his cage, but if he did, there would be one more similarity.

The commenters here seem to believe that PBS ONLY Shows Seseme Street. There are wonderful documentaries and educational programming that would never see the light of day if not for PBS.

How dumb can the Democrats be, that they would be doing this
The amount of $$$$$ that the Muppets pull in, is in the multi millions
Why, oh why oh why would they need FREE tax $$$$, they should be paying us
What Romney has done is shined some light of the ways our tax $$$ are being used/abused
Obama will end up with egg all over his face, and a lost election

Slow your roll Dov, after all big oil and wall street get tons of tax breaks and subsidiaries bigger than Pbs! But I don't hear Romney going after them! Pbs employes a lot of people so they create jobs too!

anybody saying that pbs shouldnt be funded by "tax payer money" are a bunch of asses. sesame street is not the only show being played, it also not ONLY a show that gets funded, then profits 100% from the sales of merchandise. they do events for all children in different areas, it helps the children in communities of all levels with learning numbers, alphabets, and morals. other shows on the chanel are very educational. its very sad that people are now trying to mess with childrens shows, really?? lets cut the childrens shows?

  11. 11

just another example of nobama trying to distract the american voters from issues that count. lets see the economy, jobs, china(hiding negative reports) causing the murders of diplomats in bengazi, socializing our country, causing the world to laugh at us due to their antics, billary out playing at the taverns sure demands respect, biden laughing about all of the serious topics acting like a fucking child during the debate. they have made our once proud country the laughingstock of the WORLD,. FUCK then ALL.

  12. 12

Re: WATSONVILLERe: Bubble – ,,, both of you, like you idol nobama, are trying to confuse the issue. you are both ignoring, and hoping we wont remember the fact that every PBS station has 2 or more fund raiser every year when they collect millions of dollars. I support them with MY after tax dollars,,,

I support them with MY after tax dollars,,, DO YOU?? NO? WHY THE FUCK NOT? There is also the "minor" problem with the political left presentation. Can you name even ONE show that presents both sides of a question? I'm not asking for a conservative show, just an unbiased one. if either of you have any balls you will reply in a manner that does not insult or attack me. just address the facts if you can.

  14. 14

Obama to crowd "they're trying to kill Big Bird", while the crowd cheers he quickly hides the economy, unemployment, and Benghazi in his pocket!

  15. 15

oh, by the way the ctw stompped onnobamma for using their trademarked images for political purposes, did you get permission??? knowing your tendencies i surely doubt it.
maybe they will be interested to know about your trademark infringement,,,we'll have to see.

PBS is the network on which Sesame Street is aired. It doesn't own sesame street nor does it get royalties from the sales of SS merch.

    17

You are correct but I think you fail to realize the average intelligence of posters on this site is that of a mildly functional 7 year old. They've never watched pbs and in fact they can't stand Obama because their "Maws and Paws" taught them not to like black people (though that was not the term they were taught to refer to them as). Documentaries? These mofos be struggling with Fox News. Don't waste your breath.

Perez you do a great job of being politically partisan!

  20. 20

The bigger point Romney made was nothing is sacred. No more borrowing to pay for things that aren't essential. PBS can survive in the wild, without a gov't hand-out. Sesame Street in particular SHOULD be off the gov't dole. Here's the thing, if we can't manage to find a way to cut even the most non-essential spending, how do we ever get spending under control? Big Bird should do his patriotic duty and LEAVE the nest on his own.

  21. 21

How about we focus on more important issues. I think this whole PBS thing (which has been blown out of proportion to begin with) should NOT be the top issue with the debates. How about our economy? The failing war on drugs? The conflict over in Afghanistan? The list could go on & on.

I don't understand Sesame Street make millions from sales, and we have to borrow money to support it. Where does there money go?

  24. LiberalsMakeMeSick says – reply to this

    24

Sesame Street makes 400 million a year and WE the tax payer pitch in 8 MILLION dollars yearly that we BORROW from CHINA!

That's liberal logic at it's finest.

AND Obama is out on the campaign making jokes about Romney killing Big Bird.

Obama just thinks everything is funny as long as we are paying the bills he is racking up.

  28. 28

do we need to borrow money from china to support big bird? no we don't. PBS and NPR are freeloaders. get in the market place and compete or go home.

Re: raypearson – I don't care about democrats or republicans you really need to further your education past a preschool show like SS because you can't do basic math if believe our broken down country needs to give 7000000 to PBS. HOW ABOUT GIVING THAT MONEY TO LOW SCORING SCHOOLS?

Re: Bubble – Then following Obama's philosophy - Sesame Street makes millions off their merchandising - so they should spread their wealth around and help the other programs stay on - isn't that what Obama espouses - share the wealth..

  33. 33

    Re: raypearson – @ Ray,
I also give to PBS - $50 a month, $600 a year. Personal contributions, licensing and corporations amount to 80% of PBS funding. The government $450 million is the remainder. That is $1.50 per person in the US. If the people who are so outraged by possible cutting gave $5, this would not be an issue. I think this debate could possibly backfire on PBS, particularly when people like us get fed up with these idiots trying to "Save" PBS. "Public" Broadcasting, should be just that, funded by the Public, indenpendent and free of any Government influence. Secondly, PBS should not have to pay to broadcast Seseame Street from the Children's Broadcasting Network. PBS made Seseame Street, which is now an hour long commercial for Elmo dolls.

  34. 34

Re: kandycane – I thnk you misunderstood Ray's comments. Ray pays in direct funding to PBS. He makes a personal contribution. He was directing his comments to the people who complain about cutting PBS and make no personal contribution at all.

  35. 35

In the spirit of Patton's remark that he knew the Germans were 'done' when they started using carts on their retreat from Russia; you know 0bozo is finished when the Regime trots out the Big Bird defense to distract from the unraveling disaster of his entire foreign policy, blowing up in his face 30 days before his reelection.

Re: Dov – Are you as dense as you sound? The manufacturer gets the largest percentage of that sort of sale of merchandise. Sesame Street Productions license the rights of the image to the manufacturers. Sesame Street Productions is a non-profit. Besides the government pays only 12% of PBS funding. Most of their monies come from corporate donors and viewer donations.

  37. lexi says – reply to this

    37

Most of this money comes from donations the government just helps out. How could you take the most attractive stars off of this show. If Romney really cared he wouldn't want to make children's hearts get broken. I admit they do make alot of money but still donations come into the show, so they can air. I love big bird and elmo if you cancel them why don't you just take the dang show down, cuz it won't be the same. I use to only watch the show because of those two. Now that's what most children i know are watching all because of them.
