Sarah Silverman's Father Fights Back Against The Rabbi Who Questioned Her Jewishness!

I've never understood why people call themselves Jewish (or any religion) if they don't do anything religious. Being Jewish isn't a physical characteristic, like having blonde hair or being tall. It's a thing you do, like playing golf. I wouldn't say that I'm a golfer if I never, ever play golf. It would be kind of lame and even dishonest. Am I missing something?

Re: Modern Thinker – I agree. I used to call myself Christian because my parents were, but one day I realized I was not a Christian. If more people were truly honest about their religious beliefs, there would be a lot more atheists.

First of all, the Rabbi has no right to criticize Sarah. He's religious, she isn't. If you're not a religious Jew then obviously you're not going to live according to religious rules. That's a no brainer. There's a huge difference between being a Jew culturally and being a Jew religiously. Also, the religious don't move with modern times, and most Jews are modern. Finally, I totally agree with Sarah's father, the religious are still backwards in that they don't allow women to serve as Rabbi's and they want things to stay as they were hundreds of years ago. No thank you! I'm not a religious Jew, but I will always consider myself a Jew, and nobody has the right to tell me whether I am or not, that's bullshit!

I love how all the media reports of Rabbi Rosenblatt's op-ed conveniently left out the sentences immediately preceding the quoted paragraph:

"As an Orthodox rabbi, I disagree with just about everything you say, but respect your right to say it. All I ask, respectfully, is that you not use traditional Jewish terminology in your efforts. Because doing so is a lie."

Sarah Silverman comes from a secular Jewish background and hasn't the foggiest idea about Judaism. Her knowledge of Jewish matters is limited to bagels-and-lox and what she's read in Philip Roth novels. She might as well represent herself as a neurosurgeon; she probably has more background!

Looks like Sarah Silverman's father is as profane and vile and intolerant of opposing views and she is. She put herself out there and she initiated this with her disgusting videos attacking Mitt Romney with her dog screwing and other disgusting acts. Her father may have "produced" two other children that have contributed to this world but Sarah is a disgusting intolerant shrew that put herself out there - attacked the beliefs of at least half the country in really uncivil and unproductive ways and got what she deserved. But I guess we dont have to waste any time wondering where she got her disgusting mouth from. Oh and for the record— I'm a Jew too.
