Whoopi Goldberg Addresses Chevy Chase's Use Of The N-Word On The View

| Filed under: TV NewsWhoopi Goldberg

And surprisingly, she's on his side!

On Monday's episode of The View, Whoopi Goldberg brought up Chevy Chase's recent recent temper tantrum on the set of NBC's Community. As you may have heard, he decided to drop the N-word while arguing with writers that his character has become too racist.

Even though he apologized for using the word to make his point, his African American co-stars, Donald Glover and Yvette Nicole Brown, are reportedly pissed.

Whoopi, as she addressed the story during Hot Topic this morning and said:

"I think Chevy was making a very valid point and I guess he woke everybody up to get what he was talking about because nobody liked hearing it coming from him and no one will like it on TV, so I guess his point was made."

Maybe so, but he probably didn't need to say the word to make his point.

And we're not alone because Sherri Shepherd didn't quite share Whoopi's perspective either. Find out what she had to say on the issue (above)!

"He didn't need to say the word".
I don't understand how you can sometimes think it's okay and sometimes not. Clearly you don't care if a couple of black rappers say it, like N*ggas in Paradise. And you didn't care when Bill Maher said it in the context he used it becuase it was describing a hypothetical situation.
But you are so against Chevy Chase saying it. Why? He wasn't saying it offensively, he was mad that his character was being written as a racist. He was asking how far will the writers go to be controversial. Do you just not get that?

There's no such thing as an offensive word- only an offensive context. It would seem he wasn't using the word as an insult. But then again, some people will always find certain words offensive, regardless of the context- giving those words the permanent context of being offensive. Not 100% sure what my point is.

OH NOES HE SAID THE N WORD!!1 In the meantime, 3948394 million white guys were called crackers and honkies. Not a single news report on that eh?

If people truly want equality they should just stop going defcon 1 when people drop N bombs or F bombs if you're gay. Whites don't make a fuss about getting called crackers, etc because it's funny. The second blacks, hispanics, etc stop caring about the words people say to them is when they will stop. Mind blowing how people especially all of those minority organizations have still failed to grasp that concept. Ignore it = It goes away. Make a big deal about it demanding people be fired, fined, etc = Tells us you're still offended so people will continue saying it.
