Mitt Romney Wants To End Hospital Visitation Rights For Same-Sex Couples

| Filed under: Gay Gay GayPolitikBarack ObamaSad SadLGBT

In 2010, Barack Obama signed an executive order that mandated any hospital receiving federal funding to recognize and respect same-sex relationships.

That means after years and years of gays and lesbians being denied one last meeting with their partner before dying or undergoing a life-threatening operation, the LGBT community finally got the visitation rights they deserved.

Although Mitt Romney hasn't been very clear about anything his stance on the issue over the last two decades, one of his top advisors made it pretty dang clear he would repeal any equality that Obama has instituted.

While clarifying his strong support for a federal ban on same-sex marriage, Bay Buchanan declared he would leave other LGBT issues up to the states and explained:

"Governor Romney supports a federal marriage amendment to the Constitution that defines marriage as an institution between a man and a woman. Governor Romney also believes, consistent with the 10th Amendment, that it should be left to states to decide whether to grant same-sex couples certain benefits, such as hospital visitation rights and the ability to adopt children."

Ugh! Why Mittens? Why?!

Stripping away something as simple as hospital visitation rights is hateful discrimination — pure and simple!

We believe Romney when he says he knows how to run a business, but how can he run a country when he doesn't care for an ever-growing part of the population?

I never said which way I'd vote, I'm not American. My comments refer to those that are being homophobic and offensive. Not political, I just have an interest in the election.

WTF! Why would anyone care about who comes to visit someone they love in a hospital? I mean, really? Don't we have a hell of a lot of other important issues to deal with? Why on earth would anyone want to regulate something like this? I'm just so tired of these right wing, hate mongering GOP tools who wants to control everyone's personal lives, while talking out of the other side of their mouths about individual rights and freedom from government intrusion. I hope this country can get it's s.it together before it tears itself apart any more than it already has. It can't take much more…

Don't worry, Perez & America. Mittens will leave it up to the States and will focus on our economy. In an interview with Mitt's sister, she said he also does not have 'denying women's rights' as a priority either. Fact is if we keep going in the same direction, we'll all be poor regardless of who's in the hospital. I have faith that God meant for love between to people to happen regardless of politics and the politics will eventually reflect it. Peace out.

As usual the GOP wants to create problems without giving any answers. You want to take away my right to chose but also want to get rid of entitlements for those who can't afford to be parents. You want to stop the gay and lisbian communty from adoping but don't want to support children without parents and god forbid any of these children get an education. And now they want to tell someone who they are allowed to spend there dying moments with. This is disgusting but I expect no less from a group of people who only think about there own greed. They only a ploy to appeal to there base through hatred and those who believe what they say are to stupid and don't understand it's all a sham to get your vote. I don't think Mitt Romney even cares enough to have an opinion on the subject he just want to please the masters like Koch brothers.

Re: Sarah – you know what else is offensive that these men in the GOP think they have a right to tell me what to do with my body. It makes me feel dirty that they even discuss my right to my body. I am sick of the rape issue as well ofcourse a women who is raped should make her own decission on a pregnancy but any women should be able to make that choice regardless of how they became that way. I think from now on if a man is convicted of rape we should cut his balls off so of he reoffends we don't have to worry about an unwanted pregnancy is that fair and balanced

Ohh PLEASE, Romney would make a GREAT president. As a gay woman, it's the economy, border security, the Islamification of the US, our deteriorating stature in the world as we alienate our allies, and embolden our enemies. Ambassador Stevens (a Democrat) had a steel rod shoved up his rectum before he was murdered, it perforated his colon…and you people make an issue of gay visitation rights? Seriously? Mitt has nothing against gays, and this issue is absurd.

Are YOU seriously talking about shoving lifestlyes down peoples' throats? Wow. Why don't YOU just focus on YOUR relationship with God and don't worry about everyone else's? I am sure you're actually joking, but it's not funny.

bring back the family and stop giving in to everything, we need some guidelines, all these people want special rights because they have different opinion what going on in Their Bedroom. Now BDSM people want special rights and than the pedophiles, while the original idea of two people creating a family seemed to fall under the table. Don't get me wrong I don't care what people do in their Bedroom but don't try to make me understand that you need special treatments

Re: BonzaiKitty – Not sure where you work, but this has been done many times.Without this right family members can control the issue REGARDLESS of the patients wishes.

his answers always the same, leave it up to the state…i think this guy would have made a great president in the 40's or 50's , but thankfully its 2012 its time for a new way of thinking Romney..or your not going to get very far.

Romney can say whatever he wants. 12 years ago I worked at a top 10 hospital. Many same sex partners wanted to stay with their sick beloved. I always left it up to the patient to decide who stays. Sure I had some biological families annoyed with me, but as a nurse my job is protect the patient's best interest.

  17. LIBERALSMAKEMESICK says – reply to this

HE DID NOT SAY THAT!!!! He thinks the states should decide!!!!!!! Stop lying Perez. Romney does not think the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT should be involved in this.

    QUIT LYING!!!!!

    Re: travus212
You are completely wrong and a very hurtful person if you would deny two people who love one another to marry or have the same rights as a male and female couple. There is no difference in that sense. You chose to be straight did you? Because people certainly don't get a choice as to their sexuality no matter what people seem to think. You need to come out of the dark and see that times are changing, people are becoming more accepted for who they are and as a God loving nation surely you must learn to love one and all no matter what their beliefs?

Perez or whoever posted this is wrong. Mitt is for equal rights. This is a false partial sentence that does not match the caption. Wake up people. Mitt also is a true economist and leader. Obama is more of a mayor. Our economy is crumbling not because of Bush, because of Obama. We have achieved equal rights. This election is about economics and jobs. If Obama stays we will all be without resources. Gay rights has been achieved. Its about the bigger picture now.
