Christina Aguilera: Album Bionic Failed Because It Was 'Ahead Of It's Time'

On the real: We are THRILLED Christina Aguilera's new album is hitting shelves in a couple weeks! Howeves, we haven't forgotten the ache of disappointment from her last record gave us.

Christina remembers her flop a little differently.

Like a mother chemically engineered to forget the pain of giving birth, The Voice star memory of pushing out Bionic is not at all accurate.

While promoting Lotus Xtina has given interview after interview blaming Bionic's lack of success on herself the public's taste. She gave Rolling Stone, Billboard, and a YouTube Q&A the EXACT SAME excuse: the album was "was ahead of its time."

We love us some Lady Aguilera, but SRSLY??

The gurl used to make hit recorders like Dunkin makes doughnuts. But the Xtina express can to screeching holt when Bionic sold only 300,000 copies and birthed a total of zero top ten singles!

Luckily that's all in the past.

We've heard that Lotus is going to be Xtina return to form — which is faaaabulous because we CANNOT wait for her to rub us the right way again!

Her boyfriend always looks like he's medicated & on a Day-Pass from the insane asylum….

Here's the thing… if the album came out now, it would sell well over a million, at least. timing is everything. So she is right. Her work on that TV show would have pushed the album up the charts now.

What is she supposed to say? "Yes, Bionic was a miserable failure. I'll do better this time." No - her publicist wouldn't let her say that. They carefully orchestrated what she is to say when questioned about it. That's why she repeats the same answer to the question when she gets it over and over.

or could it be perez was besties with gaga and bashing the hell out of xtina now hes all buddy with the fattie

    Re: fancypants66

Agree, but also, when you think about it, she was one of the first to collaborate with Nicki Minaj, who was anonymous in early 2010, today it would have made a greater impact. At the same time Christina had to compete with Lady GaGa, who was at her peak that time, with Bad Romance and her second album, and Christina was constantly compared to her. Nevertheless, there are some horrible songs on that album, alongside beautiful ballads.

No doubt this woman can sing. But it's too bad her ego and her shitty attitude eclipse her genuine talent.

you BITCH HILTON made the album flop but you know it was really ahead of its time specially the time of queer bloggers

  9. 9

this is a very old news story. but o, at the time it was being called a pathetic attempt at copying Lady gaga who was huge then. So no, nothing whatsoever to do with ahead of its time. It was old news. She uses the same producers as everybody else so her sound has nothing whatsoever new to offer. Seriously deluded. Pop is pop and hers is generic.

It might not be ahead of it's time, imo, because it didn't fly so didn't exactly have a time. Music is subjective, so artists shouldn't be insulted if it doesn't appeal to the fat part of the curve. You sometimes have to dumb it down for that, lol. Unfortunately, you have to make a living. 0o0.

Re: Mr. Xpose – She's the one sticking with RCA.At least Avril had the good sense to get the hell out of there and move to Epic.Of course,it doesn't help much when you cancel your world tour because of dismal sales and in the process alienate your fans.
Way to own it Xtina.Truth be told, she has no work ethic whatsoever and would be hard pressed to even make it through a 2hr concert.

  12. 12

It sounds the same today as it did when it came out. So when is it it's "time"?

Re: Trancelike – You hit on something. Dedicated touring builds your base. Look at Madonna, Grateful Dead…and Christina could sing circles around her.

I've always had mad respect for Christina because unlike a lot of pop artists, she has the pipes and it's not all machinery. However, it's pop music hunny. It's not standards, it's not R&B. It's manufactured and put out to get airplay. It flopped because it sucked. Her personality has gotten shittier. I used to think if you have the voice you own the right to be a diva, I revoke that statement. You need to kiss some ass and be thankful people still even want your music. You don't need to put others down to sell shit, if you create quality product, there will be room for everyone in this business.

There were few problems with the album. First she announced it like in 2008 that shes gonna come out with a electro-pop album and dance music wasn't that popular. by 2010 Gaga was in her prime and the whole comparsion affected the album. Also, the media was hating on xtina in 2010. it really was a solid album and she worked with alot of unknown artists. Sia, mia, Nicki and peaches. Not myself tonite, elastic love, primma donna, vanity, woohoo, you lost me are some of my favorites.

She has a great voice, no doubt about it, one of the most talented vocalists around, but she is not and has never been innovate. Her music is the same generic pop as everyone else's. She doesn't really write her own music and a lot of time uses the same producers as Britney and other generic pop artists. And she has been known to copy other artists styles, probably because she works with their producers and the sound is similar, so I really don't call any of what she does innovative and neither should she. Bionic wasn't 'innovative' it was bad.

Re: Nobody – I'm sorry but you're wrong. Mariah Carey was the first to work with Minaj. Minaj had already established a name for herself by the time her and Christina collaborated (not as much as now, but still). Secondly, Bionic wasn;t ahead of it's time, it was just pure crap. The lyrics were awful (best example being Bobblehead), the melodies were minimal and the whole album was just extremely desperate. No ounce of originality in there.

Re: fancypants66 – What are you on about?! Her publicist would have most likely advised her to admit to it failing in order to prevent her coming across so big headed and arragont.

OMG! XXL-tina has gotten SO fat!! People don't want her hungry whale sounds!!!

  19. keith says – reply to this

No, it failed because people could tell that she was trying to be something she wasn't

  20. 20

It failed because it sucked. There were no catchy songs on that record, so it didn't yield any radio/billboard hits that would have gotten people to buy the album. That's why it failed, if people are making music like that in the future then can I just die now

  21. Cyberagga says – reply to this

Mariah Carey said the same thing about "Glitter"…

  22. 22

Who was Minaj and SIA before Bionic ..Bionic worldwide has sold the same as FF…And YESS.. Bionic is the most influential album today .. Christina seriously that is a visionary

  23. Danny says – reply to this

I'm not THE ultimate Fan of Christina, but she is absolutely right in what she's saying! I think it's a very good album!

  24. 24

Re: @v@ – Sure it does, and it can be slow, hard work when your not on top of the heap anymore.Concert tours are, initially at least, "in support of the album".When RCA showed no faith in this release, neither did she.

  25. 25

I totally agree with her. Xtina is the real deal. Every track in that album is precious. I listen 2 that album religiously. Glam, Primadonna, sex for breakfast and the other fabulous tracks is original. that album didn't go well because the audience was not mature enough to have some real kick of her. But it is no reason for her to stop her creative process of making music that is ahead of time. People will catch up with her Rocket speed, she doesn't have to slow down. love u Xtina. Did I mention that You are prettier than a real angle? I am BIONIC.

  26. 26

i love how it hasnt been mentioned that it was the first or second highest illegally downloaded album of that year…hmmmm…..

  27. Bow says – reply to this

I definitely know that all the people who said that Bionic failed cuz it sucks is beacause they never listened all the album, cuz it had sooa lot of good songs, is a piece of art, nothing compared to all that crap "singers" around today. The album has some songs that actually can change your mind and life! She didn't promote it enough!

  28. ... says – reply to this

I think it's rad that a pop star would put music on their album by Kathleen Hanna, Johanna Fateman, and JD Samson. I don't like the music, but it is still kind of amazing.

  29. Dave says – reply to this

She is definitely right about Bionic. I am majoring in music production and my professor set Bionic as one of the most standard music profuction for us to analyze. It is amazing how she can use her voice without complex auto tune and still can produce electrical sound… it's just the fact that it is very hard for a non-music major person to recognize the hard work behind the tracks.

Re: @v@ – Speaking of touring.Got your Stones tix yet?Now that is keeping your fans in mind.

  32. 32

OMG…I just realized that her style has gone downhill, ever since she started going out with Matthew Butler..Imean Rutler..lol…but I believe that her album is going to be amazing…cant wait!!

  33. Loca says – reply to this

Just admit that the album sucked. Its not ahead of its time people buy what they like and they won't buy what they don't like. Get over yourself Lotus will not do great everyone hates your narcisstic attitude about everything. You are not who you once were and your getting trashier and bigger by the minute.

I became a Christina Aguilera fan because of Bionic. I loved every single song on this album. I hate it when singers get compared to others. Lady Gaga copied Madonna. Madonna copied Marilyn Monroe and so on. Who cares. As long as you pull it off in your own way who the hell cares. Not my self tonight has nothing to do with Lady Gaga. Yet the video was trashed because she copied Gaga. Gaga copied Madonna with all her leather and provocative moves, "Human Nature, Erotica, HELLO!!!" People get a grip. You think you can do better, get up there and show Ms. Christina Aguilera how its done then.
