Here she is in FULL make-up!

Zoe Saldana was photographed as Nina Simone on the set of the upcoming biopic, Nina, which is all about the jazz musicians rise to fame.

What an AH-mazing resemblance! She looks even more like Simone than the last time we saw her in costume.

We're very excited to see Mz. Saldana's performance!

i'm excited for this! she is one of the best actresses in Hollywood…and doesn't get the shot to work so much because she's brown. so maybe this will give her that oscar attention!

She looks a little to brown, is she wearing brown face, maybe they should of found a darker actress.

This is a DISGRACE! She does not look like her. If one of the many qualified actresses in Hollywood with darker features were given this role, there would be no need for makeup. If you know at all Nina Simone's Legacy, the very act of choosing a lighter women to play her goes directly against what Nina Simone stood for. This is the practice in hollywood for black women, we somehow all look like Halle Berry…..

I agree with Renee completely..This is not something Nina would be happy about AT ALL..

India Arie would have been perfect..

So, to avoid hiring a suitably dark-skinned woman to play the actually dark-skinned subject of the biopic, Hollywood hired a light-skinned, straight-haired actress that is palatable to investors… AND then decided to use BLACKFACE to "fix" the problem? I'm stunned. This is seriously the worst string of decisions on a major motion picture I've seen in years.

    Dear Cynthia Mort,

I suppose Queen Latifah should play you in your biopic.

HORRIBLE make up job! It is almost laughable, good grief!

don't know the nina you are talking about, but this chick isn't close to the famous one.

Awesome actress or not, Zoe looks ridiculous in this brownface. Instead of selecting an actress who naturally looks like Nina Simone, they'd rather waste money by selecting someone who looks nothing like her in any regard and Still missing the mark, because she does Not look like Nina. This is a disgrace and I don't know a single person who is going to support this.

I suppose we could all be objective and wait for the trailer but from what I see, this film is a disaster in the making. Zoe is a mediocre actress who cannot carry a film on her own-the failure of Colombiana proved that. If Zoe had any class, she would have gracefully rejected the role stating that she couldn't do the role justice, much like Haley Barry did when offered the role of Aretha Franklin.

I find it strange they hired a Latina actress to play an African American woman. Really!? They couldn't find an actress that is actually African American? Ridiculous.

THIS IS JUST WRONG. IT'S TOTALLY THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT MISS SIMONE STOOD FOR. (EMBRACING YOUR OWN COLOR) HOLLYWOOD "GOD DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!"

i agree with the disgraceful comment…nina simone was an activist for black women, in addition to being a singer, and they put a afro-latina in blackface instead of finding an actress who looks more like nina simone. there are many.

    tsk tsk, perez.

Onlya white person would say this. Most racists see all blacks as looking alike. Nina was proud of her blackness and spoke out against whites who degraded her for being pure black. She was a legend and Zoe's portrayal is disrespectful. With until the movie comes out and anger those who respect Nina…anger an entire race.

She looks like Zoe Saldana in black face….where's Viola Davis, she'd look more natural and convincing.

I'm black Caribbean person and I am happy Zoe is playing Nina. I think black Americans can be so ignorant and racist and not realize that not all black people are African-American. People of African descent live all over the world (Europe, the Caribbean, and South America). Zoe is Afro Latina. She is a black Latina, why is this concept so hard for people to understand. I support you Zoe!!!

This is NOT about Zoe! People keep making out that this great legacy!…..No! It was Ms. Simone and she is African American…Her SKIN, her NOSE, Her SKIN were struggles!!! Let's remember what Zoe said and I quote…. "why the f— would I sit down and talk about how hard it is for Black women in Hollywood when there’s a Black president in my country?” This chick wont stand up for me????? Why should she be allowed to play a woman who did????

  21. cris says – reply to this

So I am of the same decent but light skinned so am I not "black"? She's "black" when she wants to be and Latina when it suits her. Her heritage defines black, spanish, etc as a Latina. There are many othe actresses that would encompass everything Nina without having to make the makeup adjustments. Zoe is a terrible actress and she should NOT be playing Nina. And for those who are proud that she is Latina playing such a role I get it… but this role was not meant for her

Re: Sam – As a black Latino, that is not what it's about. I completely disagree with them picking her because one- there were many qualified black actresses that closely resembled Nina they could have chosen- I.e. Viola Davis, Lorraine Toussaint, even Cheryl Ralph. But, like always is Hollywood… They want to white wash everyone. Just like they chose Angelina Joile to play a black French woman in A mighty heart.

Not to mention, Apperance had everything to do with her story. If Zoe was Latino & closely resembled Nina, it would be as big of an issue.

I am a woman of color, as well as an alumna of the illustrious Spelman College. It is my duty to encourage and support our beautiful black women in all their richness of which God has diversely created. Ms. Saldana is a wonderful young actress, but I do believe that a woman such as Nina Simone that has held her glorious dark chocolate face high in spite of her oppressors should be represented with an African-American woman bearing her likeness. Sometimes the outside world does not comprehend the degree of elegance and intellect that a woman with a face so brown and hips so round possesses. With that said I charge all of my beautiful black sisters, brothers, and even my extended family of other ethnicities to understand this petition, support it and spread the good word about it.

No human is pure anything. We are all mixed. That said, I agree that they should have hired a more African looking actress to play Ms. Simone.
