Mitt Romney Doesn't Think Gay Couples Should Have Children

| Filed under: Icky Icky PooGay Gay GayPolitikBarack ObamaSad SadLGBT

Once upon a time, Mitt Romney said he supported "full equality for America's gay and lesbian citizens," but that was nearly two decades ago and he's clearly had a change of heart.

Video of a 2005 speech to conservative voters shows the Republican presidential nominee saying how he really feels about the LGBT community and there is no mention of equality.

In fact, his message was quite the opposite. He seems disgusted that "same-sex couples are marrying, under law, in Massachusetts" and is bothered that those "gays are actually having children born to them." Before his initial presidential run, Romney complained:

"Today, same-sex couples are marrying, under the law, in Massachusetts. Some gays are actually having children born to them. We've been asked to remove the phrase "mother" and "father" and replace it with 'parent A' and 'parent B.' It's not right on paper. It's not right in fact. Every child has the right to have a mother and father."

Oh, the horror! Children being born into a loving family consisting of two people in a stable relationship!?

What is this county coming to???

Ever since Barack Obama became the first president to publicly support the LGBT community on marriage equality and a bunch of other issues, we'd say the U.S. is finally coming close to giving EVERY American the civil rights they deserve.

We know the economy sucks and all, but do U really want to elect a man who blatantly denies a select group of citizens the right to pursue happiness?

Sorry, but we'd rather take a step forward, not backward.

So, i guess you are waiting to post old video of your boy obama espousing anti government rhetoric years ago. Yeah, didn't think so.

  2. NoOne says – reply to this

    Simple problems for simple minds.
Americans shouldn't be worried about who can have children/marry and who can't.
Americans should be worried about EDUCATION, TERRORIST THREATS, and the WORLD ECONOMY.

  3. 3

He changed his mind a long time ago on the equality thing. The republicans got to him and corrupted his independent thinking.

  4. 4

Re: NoOne – um, tbh Americans should be worried about who can get married and who can't. It's called Equality, and that's the ideal the USA is founded on, if basic rights cannot be administered to all then what hope do we have of dealing with anything else in the long run?

uuhh. Obama thought the same thing and still does. But now since the election is on, he has to pander to the gays for votes. Obama has not done anything for gay people, and only pretends to care to get your vote..And you all fall for it every time.!! Wake up and think for your self!!!

  8. He Wont Get My Vote says – reply to this

…and Romney should not be my President.

you are so stupid Perez! He's saying OTHER people want them to change it from parent A and parent B. He thinks that's not fair. It's NOT HIM that wants to do that! You're an IDIOT!

Umm, that's the dumbest thing I've heard. He has the gays vote either way. He had our vote in 2008 before he came out in support. Reaching much?

I remember when Bush decided to attack Iraq without UN consent, the World hate Americans. This party is dangerous to our reputation and humanity.

Romney is an idiot. No matter how old this video is, he shouldn't be president. he's going to ruin America. Obama has done so much good.

  15. yvassallo says – reply to this

that is messing with science…. everyone has a father and mother. that should be recorded. however who in fact raises the kid shouldn't be up to the government, should be up to the parents whoever they are. although i think he right about every child should ave a right to a mother and father.

Gays shouldn't be allowed to have children. That exposes the children to being molested by the perverts raising them. Gays should be forced to undergo sterilization.

  19. Brandy says – reply to this

Um excuse me.. but Barack Obama "stood by" his decision to be AGAINST same-sex marriage during the last election. Now he's not so #1 and he switched sides just because this is now the cool thing to do. Get him OUT of the White House!

  22. jeff says – reply to this

It's all the people that believe in a man made god that still think gays shouldn't have the same rights. People should actually study religion as a whole to understand why there is religion. The oldest religions known to man aren't even practiced anymore. Christianity was verbal for thousands of years before being written down. Imagine If I told you a story and it was repeated for thousands of years, it would not be the same story. Then we go into the new testament where people actually picked what they wanted in it. STUDY RELIGION! don't just pick one!!

  23. 23

I think you misunderstood what he said. "WE'VE BEEN ASKED to remove the phrase "mother" and "father" and replace it with 'parent A' and 'parent B.' It's not right on paper. It's not right in fact. Every child has the right to have a mother and father."

Meaning that people want him to do this, but he doesn't want to. Every child has the right to have two parents, a mom and a dad, rather than "a and b". He DISAGREES with whoever is asking him to do this.
Also, notice how MA is one of the only states allowing gay marriage? Did you conveniently forget? Reading comprehension. Learn it.

Re: Valentina – If we're all broke, no one can get married anyway. Priorities. Reconsider yours.

    Re: Mad Dog

According to the American Psychological Association, "homosexual men are not more likely to sexually abuse children than heterosexual men are." Gregory Herek, a professor at the University of California, Davis, who is one of the nation's leading researchers on prejudice against sexual minorities, reviewed a series of studies and found no evidence that gay men molest children at higher rates than heterosexual men.

And you called yourself…n American? Sad..

The Funny Thing About People Arguing That Same-Sex Marriages Will Damage The Lives Of The Children Raised, Is That No Same-Sex Couple Has Ever Conceived A Child By Accident. Every Gay/Lesbian Couple Who Want A Child Together Have To Plan For It In A Lot Of Detail, Whether Its A Lesbian Couple Finding A Sperm Donor, Or A Gay Couple That Have To Find A Surrogate Mother, Or The Extremely Hard Job Of Filing For Adoption Papers. Either One Of These Is A Long And Lengthy And Very Difficult Process. Also EVERY SINGLE CHILD RAISED BY A GAY OR LESBIAN COUPLE IS ALWAYS WANTED.

  29. Dale says – reply to this

This is trash journalism. What about Obama who only supported gay marriage last May, and ALSO SAID HE WOULDN"T DO ANYTHING AS PART OF HIS SECOND TERM.

You post a video from 5 years ago? What do you think Obama thought of gay marriage 5 years ago?

Your agenda shows, but it's not going to work. Romney wins big.

  30. ahaks!! says – reply to this

if the Mittens are to deny gays and lesbians the right to marry because they cannot procreate, then it must necessarily deny post-menopausal women and impotent couples that right as well. Thats including Mitten's wife….

MITT ROMNEY doesn't think gay couples should have children….NEITHER DOES EVOLUTION FOR MILLIONS OF YEARS SINCE TIME BEGAN. Don't you people get it?

  35. Eddie says – reply to this

Gays can't have children as a couple. It takes a man and women to have a child. No matter how much the gays and gay lovers want to change that fact.. they can't. The reason gays can't have children is because mother nature says they can't and mother nature is the boss.

  36. Eddie says – reply to this

I know this sounds crazy to people, but we need to fix the economy, get jobs, and what not. OBAMA HASN'T DONE THAT. You're just re-posting this video because you're scared that Mitt Romney could be the next President. Sorry that our economy is terrible and can't focus on gay marriage. Then again, that should be the least of our concerns here when our country is going down. #RomneyRyan2012

Re: You Failed Like Mitt – What let's flip it around. If you think gay people should be allowed to marry, why not siblings? Or mother and son. Or why not let a dozen people all get married to each other? As long as they love each other, and are in a committed relationship, they can adopt kids and they'll turn out well because they're in a loving family right?

    Dear Moron Bible Homophobic Thumper,

Straight couples are not required to procreate in order to marry. Equality…yeah equality in their wet fart hole! Marriage is not essentially about procreation because procreation is not essential to any marriage.

Obama is a President..not a magician. How can you expect a man can clean The National Trillion dollar of debt left by Bush????? Mr. Bush paid for two wars and a Medicare prescription drug program with borrowed funds. What makes you think Romney can solve it too? No, Mr. Romney, the solution for our fiscal problem is not another tax cut ESPECIALLLY for the wealthy like you! Since when US turns into..INDIA?

    Obama said this in 2004:
“Marriage is something sanctified between a man and a woman." At that time, he also indicated that civil unions were adequate for gays and lesbians. He contended that the difference between marriage and civil unions was partly just a matter of “semantics.”

So I guess Obama is allowed to change his mind but no other candidate is? Way to show your true colors Perez.

  52. 52

My response this ridiculous statement, among many, of Mitt Romney is… "It would have been better if his mother never had him, nor he have any children himslef!!!!"

No, I am not gay but heterosexual all the way, but am tired of this jerk, tired of the Repubs trying to change laws and ignore the Constitution… Time someone disban them all for good, and it will be for the good of this Country.

I am a senior lady who has lived through 12 Presidents and watched the folly of Repubs in Office, so stay Democratic for a FREE continued USA…

Re: He Wont Get My Vote – He repealed "Don't Ask, Don't Tell", openly supported Gay Marriage Equality and instructed his Attorney General not to decent the Defence Of Marriage Act.. He couldn't be more pro equality if he matched in Pride..

What more would you like him to do?

  54. 54

Ugh, Perez…. It's impossible to know what politicians *really* believe. They frequently say things just because they think that will help them get elected. Mitt Romney, in particular, has been notorious for occupying polar opposite ends of the spectrum. This is a man who has been bent on becoming President since he was a teenager, so it's not unreasonable to wonder if he's just claiming to be against 2-father/2-mother households just to appeal to the [still very present and potent] homophobic voters. Furthermore, it's ridiculous that Perez seems to be asserting that all homosexual households consist of two people in a stable relationship. Unstable relationships are specific to *people*, in general, not just straight people.

So does this mean that I can't have my Dads anymore? What exactly is so wrong with me [someone with gay parents] that scares these people so much they want to prevent it. I am a successful, intelligent, independent human being heavily involved in my community and local not-for-profit organizations. So is it that he's afraid today's children from gay parents might *gasp* actually make a positive difference in this world and lead people to independent thought?

Obama fooled me last time and cost me my job, not again. Sorry Perez, but I would never vote for a candidate on a marginal issue such as gay marriage, abortion, etc. You need to focus on what is important like jobs and the economy and the debt.

  63. 63

Perez, you stupid f*&k, where did you learn to repeat a favorite rethuglican line about the economy? Oh could it be the Log Cabin Losers? No, you are far from hot and they wouldn't go for that tragic face of yours.

  64. 64

Yeah….2005 video? What was Obummer doing back in the day? You going to post about his anti-white blasts? You going to post about his drug use? You going to post about his NOT supporting gay before being forced into it? Get real Perez and stay out of politics. I love my gay friends and in fact live in the Gayborhood, but every issue in the world does not boil down to being gay. Most of my gay friends are voting for Mitt because they actually want a future for their children and would like to keep their jobs and would like America to be strong once again.

  65. 65

I am a Christian woman, 63 years old!
I am totally against Mitt Romney and all the he stands for!
We are a country that should support equal rights for EVERY ONE!

I pray that Romney is never our President, it would be like rolling progress back fifty years!

i am sorry i am for equality and all but the major concern in this era is the economy not equality i would rather be able to afford things with money from jobs that mr romney is going to create not sit here and struggle financially and watch gay people get married. The will to live and survive is much stronger then equality

  72. Rebel says – reply to this

Re: teeter totter – How exactly is Romney going to fix our economy? By giving the rich a tax break and raising taxes for the poor? Yeah, that didn't work for 8 years, so I highly doubt it'll work this time around. And that job you lost, Romney wants to ship it off to China.
I don't know how anyone expected for Obama to be able to get us out of a trillion dollar debt in four years. You can't fix something in half the time it took to mess it up. We probably wont be out of the shit hole were in for another 6+ years.

  73. 73

How can anyone expect him to think differently. Mormons will only allow gays in ther religion if they agree to live totally celibate lives. Many will throw their kids out if they find out they're gay. What about their involvement in Proposition 8, disgusting….

  74. wimp says – reply to this

mitt romney i think your right and wrong. Its wrong to have same sexes because its a sin, but also if they choose to make that decision then thats them. You really cant tell thim how to run their life. If they were president would you want them running your life? I think not!!!! You wont be getting my vote!!!
