Once upon a time, Mitt Romney said he supported "full equality for America's gay and lesbian citizens," but that was nearly two decades ago and he's clearly had a change of heart.
Video of a 2005 speech to conservative voters shows the Republican presidential nominee saying how he really feels about the LGBT community and there is no mention of equality.
In fact, his message was quite the opposite. He seems disgusted that "same-sex couples are marrying, under law, in Massachusetts" and is bothered that those "gays are actually having children born to them." Before his initial presidential run, Romney complained:
"Today, same-sex couples are marrying, under the law, in Massachusetts. Some gays are actually having children born to them. We've been asked to remove the phrase "mother" and "father" and replace it with 'parent A' and 'parent B.' It's not right on paper. It's not right in fact. Every child has the right to have a mother and father."
Oh, the horror! Children being born into a loving family consisting of two people in a stable relationship!?
What is this county coming to???
Ever since Barack Obama became the first president to publicly support the LGBT community on marriage equality and a bunch of other issues, we'd say the U.S. is finally coming close to giving EVERY American the civil rights they deserve.
We know the economy sucks and all, but do U really want to elect a man who blatantly denies a select group of citizens the right to pursue happiness?
Sorry, but we'd rather take a step forward, not backward.
