Hurricane Sandy DESTROYS New Jersey Liquor Supplies

Grey Goose Liquor Hit Hard By Hurricane Sandy

Homes are devastated, streets are flooded.

And now the liquor is running out???

New Jersey's sole distributor of Grey Goose vodka and Cristal champagne suffered a massive loss in Hurricane Sandy.

Fedway Associates President Neil Barnett posted on Facebook:

"Hurricane Sandy dealt a 'near' knockout blow to our south Kearny facility last week. Our office building and warehouse buildings were hit with 10 foot tidal surges and as a result our infrastructure and inventories were severely compromised."

ALL the inventories??

Afraid so. They are working to get back up and running, but they say the losses are in the tens of millions. And since they're the only game in town, New Jersey is rapidly running out of the high quality spirits.

Even NJ Governor Chris Christie understands; he said he would think about lifting the state law prohibiting alcohol retailers from buying supplies from out-of-state. He said:

"If in fact that company came and asked me to consider that, I would consider it. But to the best of my knowledge they have not come and asked for any waiver or relaxation of that regulation."

The Jersey Shore cast could not be reached for comment as they were confused by the unexpected onset of soberness.

I have never left a comment on anything and as much as I hate to see liquor go to waist, this is in poor taste. I have been working with Sandy relief efforts and this is nothing to take light. Near 1/2 million people still have no power and low income housing projects seem to be the last though on anyones mind where people have gone near 2 weeks without power. Please do not mock what NY is going through

Re: megan ethridge – yes, perez is insensitive, has posts of some celebs whose apartment has no electricity, yet these celebs have the means and luxury of leaving town or staying on $1000 a night hotel rooms. The normal person does not have these resources but perez post nothing about that, where is the fake heartfelt pleas, you usually have, for celebs, maybe have some of that for your fellow New Yorkers (aren't you living there perez ?) where is the charity concert?

This is what I mean. People lost their lives. A mother lost her two children in the current, and you think it's ok to joke about the loss of liquor.. Like really, what the fuck is wrong with you?

Re: megan ethridge – I agree. I read that the public housing projects will finally get power this weekend but have been without heat and will not get heat until sometime around Bovenmber 11th. The Red Cross always asks for donations when there's a crisis, but I also read that it took them FIVE DAYS to set up even basic stuff in Queens and Staten Island. If you go online, you can find local relief efforts, asking for clothing and donations, and people to volunteer at the shelters,. There are a lot of kids who could use clothes and warm coats to go to school. I even read that they need donations of underwear, too!

Re: onefinn – Yes, while the celebs have no electricity, they at least can stay at hotels. I saw photos of Sarah Jessica Parker and Naomi Watts at hotels with their families. I can understand it, since they have little kids. But a lot of ordinary people are struggling. A lot of them are police or firemen who are trying to do their work and help with the emergency.

My sister in staten island is not having any coverage from insurance company because they do not cover flooding due to natural disaster, Please help she lost everything google "HURRICANE SANDY RELIEF FOR GJENASHAJ FAMILY" and help in anyway possible whether it be donation or just posting it on your website we truly need all the help we can get please pass their story along, you can view video, and pictures of the damage, but insurance will not help.

I understand why you think this is insensitive, but people's lives depended on that inventory. All the people who sold those products are now basically unemployed until they can get their infrastructure back up and running. They get paid based on their sales, and this is THE MOST important make or break time of year for them, and not to be out making sales is devastating.
