WOW! This would certainly keep us from hitting the open skies for a long while!
It's being reported Sir Paul McCartney and his wife Nancy Shevell could have been involved in a serious helicopter crash, if it weren't for the last-second actions of the pilot!
Classified as a "serious incident" by the UK's Air Accidents Investigation Branch and now currently under investigation by the Department of Transport, the former Beatles member and his bride were reportedly returning from an event in London to their East Essex home when the pilot began to struggle with control of the helicopter due to bad weather…which resulted in him missing his landing on the helipad and sending them straight into some trees!
However, right before disaster truly struck, the pilot managed to regain control and pull the helicopter back into the air, resulting in the flight being diverted to an airport 15 miles away!
As Peter Norton, chief executive of the British Helicopter Association, said:
'He [the pilot] was going to land and realised he wasn't in control of the aircraft because of the weather conditions and visibility; he pulled in lots of power to climb away and correct the aircraft to its proper flightpath and missed whatever it was by two feet.'
And so, so scary!
We just can't be more relieved that everyone was unharmed and nothing was damaged.
It's near-misses like this where you can't help but appreciate just how you are!
Here's hoping that Paul, Nancy, and the pilot have all recovered and weren't left too shaken!
We've got the heebie-jeebies just THINKING about it!
