Dark Knight Massacre Lawsuits Get Court Date!

On May 5, 2014, all seven lawsuits filed against Cinemark for their alleged lack of proper security will go before U.S. District Judge R. Brook Jackson.

Aurora Century 16 was the site of James Holmes' brutal shooting spree during its infamous midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises.

Twelve died after James Holmes entered the theater from a back emergency-exit door, and 58 were left wounded.

The massacre, which shocked the nation and brought the issue of gun-control back to the water-cooler, angered many and arguably could have been prevented had proper security been in place, claims the lawsuits.

We can only hope for peace for the families and friends of the victims, and the fortunate ones who did make it out alive that night. Hopefully the judge will help see to it.

I think its disgusting trying to make money from such a horrific freak event involving some psycho serial killer. He is the only one who should be sued. Nobody else is at fault at all because theres nothing you can do to prevent this in cinemas or any other public place. No way do want everywhere to have heavy security. This nut could just as easly killed dozens on the busy streets. Quit looking for a cash windfall that you dont deserve. You were just unlucky to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Re: Lasqueesha – I agree. The cinema's insurance company will payout but when it comes down to it the movie ticket buyer will end up paying. I wish they would just tell the public they want money and extort us outright. I'd give a buck or two.

As someone who has actually been to that theater, I think this money grab by family members is absolutely disgusting. The movie theater did nothing wrong, a mentally ill person did. They are attacking the wrong people.

I sympathize with the familes as losing a loved one in such a horrific way isn't comething most of us could even imagine. It's not hard to understand them needing someone to blame for such a senseless tragedy. The problem is, James Holmes is the one to blame, not the theatre. That man was insane with several weapons and a carefully laid out plan. If coming in the back door didn't work, it stands to reason he would have just walked around to the front. In Canada we don't normally allow these kinds of frivolous lawsuits to make it to court. I mean, where does it end? By this logic, couldn't the employees of the theatre sue the families of the people who went to see the movie since they had to see something horrific? I of course think that's totally unreasonable, but along this line of thinking that claim doesn't seem much more outrageous that what the families are doing?

What happened was a terrible, horrific, tragedy…but suing will not ressurect anyone from the dead, nor will it restore peace to the town. What happened there would have happened in any theater and I doubt putting an extra security guard or two would have stopped the massacre. What do they expect? Should all public places have TSA screening?

Re: SashaSkye – My understanding (may be wrong) is that he bought a ticket, went into the theater, then exited via the back door, propping it open for his return when he came back with the guns. A security gate or metal detector at the entrance to the theater would not have prevented this, sorry.

Sorry, cannot join the family's team on this one. What kind of security? There are no alarms on alternative exits in movie theaters. Why? Because people use these fucking exits to LEAVE THE MOVIE WHEN IT'S OVER.

    Fuck me running.
