Kate Middleton's Nurse Found Dead: King Edward VII Hospital Releases Statement

| Filed under: Royals RoyceR.I.P.Kate MiddletonSad Sad

Jacintha Saldanha, a trained nurse who was attending to Kate Middleton during her extreme morning sickness, has reportedly committed suicide.

Jacintha was apparently fooled by Australian DJs Michael Christian and Mel Greig via a radio prank into transferring their call to Kate's private carer, who then divulged confidential information live on air.

Jacintha was helping out on reception at the time.

King Edward VII's Hospital, where Saldanha had worked for years, confirmed the identity of the nurse and released this statement:

"It is with very deep sadness that we confirm the tragic death of a member of our nursing staff, Jacintha Saldanha.

Jacintha has worked at the King Edward VII's Hospital for more than four years. She was an excellent nurse and well-respected and popular with all of her colleagues.

We can confirm that Jacintha was recently the victim of a hoax call to the hospital. The hospital had been supporting her throughout this difficult time."

Apparently, hospital staff had been supporting Jacintha since the prank phone call has taken place.

Again, so so incredibly sad.

She was on the switchboard; she forwarded the call to the nurse who gave all of the info.

Nurses should know NOT TO GIVE OUT PERSONAL INFO. Period. Ever. Never ever.

No need to kill yourself though! So over the top :( GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!

I think we can all agree that this is a truly tragic thing to happen! Only a few days after Will and Kate reveal their pregnancy and there is a death. Not saying this is in anyway Will or Kate's fault of course, but the media have got to stop! The hype surrounding this pregnancy is too much and those Radio Presenters ought to be ashamed of themselves by buying into it! Ultimately Will and Kate are used to this level of exposure but this poor woman was not! Really dreading what the next few months of this pregnancy may bring…

This proves without a doubt that people nowadays are WAY too caught up in what everybody else thinks. And the internet is making us all crazy. That nurse didn't give away anything important during the prank-call, and it doesn't even seem like Kate Middleton was hugely upset about it - I mean, if she were upset, they would have moved her to another hospital ASAP. And filed a complaint. Or charged the nurse with endangering the privacy of a royal, or something. Should the hospital really have to put people on suicide-watch for prank-calls?? My God.

Hopefully the radio hosts will realise that messing with someone's career is not okay! It's so sad and such horrible circumstances. Rip.

she probably thought she would be fired and blacklisted, no hope of ever getting a job again. I hope those 2 djs feel rotten about this for the rest of their lives. It's totally unfair to pull a prank on someone you don't know, in a different country, when they are trying to work. She had must have been so stressed.

Re: CC – nurses don't give out personal information unless it is to people the patient has said it's ok to give it to. It's called HIPPA, and it's a law.

Jazzy - How about you do the same.

In any Nurses contract they have to sign a privacy statement. I'm not saying this isn't tragic.. but if the nurses were showing proper discretion, this wouldn't have happened.

    Period :)

Jazzy - how about you do the same.

In ANY Nurses inital hiring, they have to sign a privacy statement. If she was doing her job properly, this wouldn't have happened. WHO CARES WHO THE PATIENT IS. Don't give out their information.

    PERIOD.

  12. CC says – reply to this

    12

I say this because I am a nurse and I know my HIPPA laws very well.

Over the phone, you do NOT give any information.

Nurses are busy - i realize they are not to give out personal information, EVER, but this is not a typical situation. can you imagine being her and having to choose whether to insult the queen by denying her information about the future king or queen, OR do you give out some vague information that is already available in the news. I would have done the same thing. but leave it to the press. they have devolved to something less than a joke. first, they do not do what journalists are supposed to do, which is to make the public aware of what is really going on in the world, and second, these idiots have to make something up in order to get a story. they should be fired, and NEVER be allowed to work in a "journalistic" capacity ever again. This is a very sad story. I feel so bad for her, that she felt so desperately sick about her actions, and so, so sad for her family, who must be going through sheer hell. But h ey, long live the queen. because that is all they seem to do, is live. what else do they do? they seem somewhat useless in my opinion.

    Re: Danielle

I'm a RN. I know my laws, creeds, and oaths very well. Over the phone - you give no information. At all. Because ANYBODY can say they are someone else.

Regardless of who the patient said to divulge information to.

I've seen many people fired/blacklisted for this simple thing. I'm sure that is what she was scared of.

    Re: Danielle

I'm 1000% sure you are no supposed to give out ANY information via phone, provided anybody can say they are somebody else.

I've seen plenty get fired aswell for the same thing!

The fact that people would rather fight on this message board rather than discuss.. is ridiculous. QUIT FIGHTING ON THE INTERNET.

    Trolls.

You can recieve any info you want, it depends on how you use it. Any behavior can be justified. I am amazed at the lack of ignorance and empathy there is in this world. Blame the teenagers? More than likely, the parents are even worse.

CC- She was managing the switchboard. She TRANSFERRED the call to another NURSE who gave the INFORMATION.

  20. CC says – reply to this

Why kill yourself for transferring a call?

    Over doing it, still.

I apologize for swearing but… You don't know what she was going through. The media caused enough uproar. She was on her last straw, clearly.

Yeah right the hospital staff was supportive. Did you see that cold-hearted old man from the hospital talking about her death? I bet we will find out that she was being treated like crap from everyone, especially the nurse who gave the info. People can be so cruel.

  23. 23

this is too horrible for words ….this poor girl …

i was listenign to a radio show in australia pranking diff people around the world and they are getting sillier and sillier so i guess this time someone got hurt… awfully sad

  24. Mary says – reply to this

    24

As awful as it is what the radio hosts did, I do not think the situation is so black and white. This woman probably had a long history of depression or some other type of mental health issues. I do not think anyone could have predicted this type of response. Having said that, I think the prank calling on shows is silly and immature- reminds me of something I did in middle school- time to grow up and use your media presence for something meaningful.

  25. Spec says – reply to this

Basic privacy laws- you give NO information over the phone, simple.
    Very tragic situation.
