Psy Apologizes For His Past, But Is It Enough?

Psy is in a lot of heat for his past, and now he's released a lengthy statement where he tries to describe his sorrows!

Is it enough to make up for the damage, though?

Here's what the statement said:

“As a proud South Korean who was educated in the United States and lived there for a very significant part of my life, I understand the sacrifices American servicemen and women have made to protect freedom and democracy in my country and around the world. The song I was featured in - eight years ago – was part of a deeply emotional reaction to the war in Iraq and the killing of two Korean schoolgirls that was part of the overall antiwar sentiment shared by others around the world at that time. While I’m grateful for the freedom to express one's self, I’ve learned there are limits to what language is appropriate and I’m deeply sorry for how these lyrics could be interpreted. I will forever be sorry for any pain I have caused by those words.

“I have been honored to perform in front of American soldiers in recent months – including an appearance on the Jay Leno show specifically for them- and I hope they and all Americans can accept my apology. While it’s important that we express our opinions, I deeply regret the inflammatory and inappropriate language I used to do so. In my music, I try to give people a release, a reason to smile. I have learned that thru music, our universal language we can all come together as a culture of humanity and I hope that you will accept my apology."

We think this does sound sincere, but he may have to do more than just write an apology.

Maybe he could give some of that online money to an American charity?

To prove he's sincere.

Do U have any suggestions???

Fuck that guy. Kill the Yankees? How about kill your career

  4. 4

It's always so funny to see when Americans realize they are very unpopular in the world…and have Americans ever looked in the mirror? The amount of hatred and bigotry to people from other countries from the US is gross! Hypocritical country.

  5. 5

    Re: DickensDaughter
LMAO - ever been to Aisa? Most racist people on the planet. They still have Japanese only establishments. Talk about bigotry. Ever been to France and see the way they treat muslims and people of color? Every been to the middle east? Every see how they treat their women by covering their face , cutting off their noses?Americans are the most tolerant people on the planet. The only people that hate Americans are the ones that see dumbfucks like you .

  6. 6

You don't need charity, you need to take it down a few notches, P. PSY owes you nothing. (this is coming from someone who is sick of your bullshit 'poor me poor me poor Americans, they're saying things about us!' attitude, not even a huge PSY fan) Take your damn apology and move on.

    Re: MVPnis
Concerning the Japanese only establishments, sometimes its because it's simply not safe for foreigners to be. (Yakuza & other gangs, ect) Others, it's because they've had horrid experiences with foreigners in their establishments so no, they don't want them there.

Re: MVPnis – I'm a female from the middle east and I can tell you that the majority of middle eastern females do not cover their face. Most middle eastern women are not oppressed, it's the American media that spreads word that they are. American came in and finished screwing up Iraq for Saddam. The middle east is actually very beautiful and women have just as many right as men (excluding war stricken countries and Saudi Arabia). If you've ever been to UAE or Kuwait you'd know what I'm talking about, but, judging by your ignorance you only know what you've seen on tv.

  12. 12

I'm not understanding why he has to apologize at all? During the last decade, surely Americans could understand how heated you can get when witnessing murders of people. I'm sure many americans have made statements in the past about the afghan people..or muslims…I think his apology is quite enough. Its easy to fall into mob mentality, for god sakes..that's the only reason he's famous!!! Lol

Maybe Americans should be the ones apologizing to the countries they invade and destroy for no real reason, not some guy singing a song. Fucking Americans.

  14. 14

I never needed an apology from him. I understand what he was trying to express and agree. I see the way we look to the rest of the world as a whole and It's not something to be proud of.

What is the problem? He's supposed to a rapper. Ain't rappers supposed to talk shit and want to kill the powers that be?
    .
Hell, every rapper has a "kill the police" rap in their past. No big deal. Now, can this bitch come up with another hit? That's the question.

  16. t says – reply to this

    16

So it's all about freedom of expression or people are entitled to have their own opinion until you're attacked. I guess nobody should have any negative opinion about America in general anymore huh?

I don't think he owes anyone anymore than an apology. I think the fact that he addressed the situation in a timely manner and apologized right away should be taken the way it is. Why ask for more and ask for money? That's greed and materialistic. An apology should be accepted as it is and not because someone pays you money. Disgusting.

    17

I am surprised that no one else has put together that this apology was not written by this Psy guy. This is publicist's words, not his. He can barely speak english from interviews I've seen. This apology is not sincere. Its just what some one is telling him to say.

  18. 18

I'd just like to say kudos to Perez. This is all over the news now but I saw it here early this morning before it went big. Perez great stuff. It's why I keep coming back.

He apologized for something from his past. has no one else done something they wish they didnt? ever wish you could take back something you said? i dont see why after a sincere apology he should have to pay american charities or anyone. its in his past. People change all the time. He used to be in the korean military too and got arrested for pot. big deal. get over it.

  21. 21

This over-rated no talent blob is only "sorry" because America made him a "star" and he is making money off of us. Send this POS home to Seoul and keep him and that lame song and dance one hit wonder home!

    23

Re: MVPnis – Oh how arrogant. I'm sure that America is not the most tolerant place on the planet. I'm pretty sure MANY other countries passed civil rights laws before yours did. Canada was where slaves that were escaping American went and most gays came here to get married because they couldn't and still can't get married in some states.

You guys still have the KKK running loose, "churches" that spew hatred and FOX NEWS that is supposedly news but again is just biased garbage with overweight white guys yelling falsehoods out about a variety of races, sexes and and countries.

At least Psy is admitting to what he's done. Most Americans say insulting things about others every minute of every day. I'm pretty sure Chris Brown beat his famous girlfriend and him and his entourage dressed up like stereotypical middle easterners and he refused to apologize for either. I'm pretty sure Ann Coulter says horrific things every second she's awake. Should all these people apologize at some point, or is it considered free speech?

    24

Haven't American celebrities done far worse than this? Matthrew Broderick killed someone when he was drunk driving and never even served any jail time, Lindsay Lohan runs someone over every other day it seems, do any of these people even acknowledge their mistakes?? C'mon now. This happened 8 years ago and back then most of the world hated Americans. Especially since they were once again running into a country saying "we're here to SAVE you and bring you DEMOCRACY! Sorry, we'll just have to kill several thousand of you while doing so but it's for your own good".

Kind of like a mom who's way out of touch trying to control their teenagers.

    25

Why does he have to give to an American charity? That makes no sense. And the U.S. army does really bad things in the other side of the world…I don't know why we're ignoring that. It's not the army but they are taking orders from higher up who start wars for no reason. So many innocent people died from drone strikes…Americans need to educate themselves with what's going on in the world. And obviously his English sucks but foreigners write English a grammatically better than most Americans because they actually learn proper English.

    28

uhhh why should he have to apologize? freedom o' speech america isn't the center of the world nor its moral compass as much as the people here would like to think it to be

  29. Bondisteve says – reply to this

    29

Why the hell should he apologise? Americans carry on about the 1st Amendment and their right to freedom of Speech endlessly however tend to revolt when that right is executed by people with comments that are not PRO AMERICAN. Get over it!

  30. 30

He was right to criticize the Americans for the illegal war in Iraq. It has killed over 100,000 innocent Iraqi women and children, and for what? Based on Bush and Cheney's lies about non-existent WMDs. War criminals! No wonder the US refuses to sign the international agreement for war crimes. Right up there with China and Iran.

    31

He didn't do anything wrong that this apology did not address. What many americans fail to realize is that many asians, especially korean and japanese, have mixed emotions about the deep involvement and stationing of thousands of US troops on their territory. I clearly recall the incident a couple years ago when two young Korean school children were accidentally run over by an American tank near a base in S. Korea. At the time, there was intense outrage over this incident. A lot of Eastern Asia was in an uproar about this. It made headlines for a while and brought about a national discussion about possibly decreasing numbers of American troops near Korean civillians. It's really not surprising that he had such a strong reaction. Psy should not have made such inflammatory statements but we have to recognize that he made a sincere apology and clearly doesn't hold ill will for the American military. As an American, I accept his apology and the reality that in this day and age it is always good to err on the side of caution when making inflammatory statements…never know when it'll come back to bite you.

Hey we've all said shit we regret later, Right Perez? Remember when you were bullying people into coming out of the closet before they were ready or writing about peoples children being ugly (AKA Adam Sandler's daughter). You sought forgiveness. I truly think he is sorry and I'm not even a fan. Practice what you preach, Perez. If you deserved a second chance, so does he.

  35. 35

Let's take a vote: Who thinks "We Ain't Oppressed" is actually a man from the "middle east"? Seriously. Speak up! No one but a MAN from the "midddle east" would shovel such horseshit around.

  36. 36

I'm sorry…do Americans really not know that there's A LOT of anti-American sentiment in the world? Especially during the Bush years. It's not seen as the great saviour they like to think they are…it's seen as a bully. Who starts unneeded wars to bring "democracy" to countries that don't have it. They think they have it right and everyone should run their countries like they do, which might be okay if they actually had it together…instead they have a broken system where rich are getting richer, poor are getting poorer, health insurance isn't free, a big chunk of the population can't get married and they are hugely in debt and can't seem to figure out their economy if their lives depended on it. But sure, that's the country we should all follow. China's system is clearly a lot stronger considering the growth its had. Canada's banking system stayed stronger through the recession than anywhere else. But you don't see China and Canada invading random countries.

So yeah, what Psy did was wrong…but he apologized, end of story. He shouldn't have to give to charity to make up for it. But maybe America should start to wonder what they've done wrong…

  37. Perezhilton says – reply to this

    37

I must apologize for my ignorance and for that I am truly sorry for what I have done in the past but I will not give anything to charities or any of my hard earn money. If our govt is spending billions on military why couldn't they just spend more money to charity? Oh that right it's not important that's why I don't give just take(if you know what I mean *wink*). That's enough mouth fulls from me I better go.

  39. 39

There is a big difference btwn Anti-American sentiments vs. trying to rally a massive group of people watching him on stage to "Kill Yankees.

He's allowed to disagree with American politics. But, promoting the murder of all Americans is disgusting. I won't be buying any of his CDs, watching any shows he is on nor any more youtube videos.

I can see that you know nothing about music. Ignorant fuck, everybody on this site who is against his lyrics really need to start seeing the bigger picture and start seeing your own country. The celebs are getting away with Crime but who cares theyre famous and rich. US Companies are moving to foreign countries to make your materialistic PRODUCTS, making you lose jobs. Hahaha it's so funny how little concern about your countrys well being to people making headlines of what celebs do. If you really do care about your country this much as you say you do then start occupying wall street, stop buying useless shit you don't need. Your not different from what you wear because some MF is already rocking that style. And I'm not angry or insulted that he dislikes Americans. I think he's pathetic to sell himself out to a country he hates for money and now all of a sudden he is sorry. That's bull. That's like someone saying "oh I hate all Jewish people i hope all of them die." Then it ends up the Jewish people who are giving him money and all of a sudden he loves them. That's ridiculous

  46. 46

Remember scumbags who talk against the USA!! If we sneeze you will get a cold!! The young generation doesnt get that we liberate countries from the scumbags that run your country! Then we dump BILLIONS into there country! We should just go into a country and liberate them and LEAVE!!! I dont care to help these countries anymore and let them ALL get a cold and stop pushing are values onto these countries. We have a nation here that DONT get it!! After Obuma is done dividing this country we will be like the rest of the scumbag world!! Most of these countries need our tourism money or need our food to survive but they dont get it!!!! FUCK YOU PSY!! South Korean, let North Korea eat you up with out our protection!! We are the ones holding them back from turning you people into DUST!! BITCHES!!!!

It was hardly a little while ago, it was in 2004, a lot has changed since then.Regardless of whether Psy's lyrics were inciting hatred it doesn't negate the fact that America dishes enough of its own hate speech ( From my perspective it seems that this kind of intense mass outrage is commonplace in the US. I find it incomprehensible that after instigating 11 wars in the past fifty years (as well as a military presence in over 500 countries) how the vast majority of Americans cannot understand when people display some form of anti-Americanism. America doesn't get any undue criticism because it is a superpower, it is because America has played God too often.
