Mormon Church Revises Stance On Gays!

mormon church gays lgbt revise stance

The Mormon Church has revised their stance on gays, and we don't even mean they made it worse: they made it better. They have called for compassion toward gays and acknowledge that it is NOT a choice!

The Mormon Church launched a new campaign encouraging its members to be more compassionate toward the LGBT community and to "love one another." Here's what the official statement from the new church website reads:

The experience of same-sex attraction is a complex reality for many people. The attraction itself is not a sin, but acting on it is. Even though individuals do not choose to have such attractions, they do choose how to respond to them. With love and understanding, the Church reaches out to all God’s children, including our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters.

Well… it's a start at least. Church leaders still insist that "they aren't changing the Mormon teaching that same-sex relationships are sinful."

While we'd absolutely like a 180 from their original stance, we don't think it'll happen over night. Can you imagine how many of their followers would have blown minds?

This isn't a HUGE win in the fight for equality, and it still continues. But, we sure as hell will take all the little ones we can get on the way to winning the war!

Perez, aren't you being a BIT intolerant in criticizing their beliefs? How about practicing what you supposedly "preach" before condemning the religious beliefs of millions of people.

Now that gay marriage is almost passed….when care we going to get down to legalizing beastiality? I want to marry my dog. Why can't I? It's none of your beeswax what I do. It's our life! Next stop…sex with animals!,,,,

Re: Ojsakila – Gay people are HUMAN BEINGS along with hetero HUMAN BEINGS. Human beings interact with each other. It has nothing to do with beastiality you ignoramus.

This is just "opposite truth press"….They just kicked out a whole congregation out for accepting gays into their flock….

Big deal. They still expect them to live celibate lives or be excommunicated, and try to send them to programs to "turn them back" to hetero. Are parents going to stop kicking their gay teens out on the street? Probably not. Will gays continue to commit suicide because they know they have to live their lives alone or leave the church? Probably. No progress in my eyes. Just a feeble attempt at softening their image. It's all PR for them.

Good for the Mormon Church. Not religious myself but happy to see a church that is forward thinking and treating people - all people- as they deserve to be treated, as human beings with dignity and respect. Now, if only the others would follow their lead.

Re: Ojsakila – your oxymorness can't get a decent reply otherwise we would be dignifying your pathetic behavior. on the other hand, when is the mormon church addressing pedophilia in their religion? how many more 12 year old will keep getting raped?

Okay, first of all I am absolutely shocked that perez hilton says this is a start with this religious group. Yes, it would be for a person without a mind of thier own. This article reminds me of a word used by some of my christian friends. "Lord give me tolerance"….tolerance being the operative. The fact that you have to ask a god to instill you with tolerace of another race, gender or creed of people suggests that you are inherently intolerant. I, for one, am not here to be tolerated!!! AND my sexuality is a non-issue in my life and to people who actually matter. Thanks!

Like the Mormon church has any REAL right to set social standards!!!!

What hypocrisy-should the rest of us tell religious people it is okay to HAVE religion but don't ACT upon it? Oh yeah many times that WOULD be an improvement!

Take the freedom from taxation away from these bigots

Re: Ojsakila – U know that was one of the arguments against interracial marriage but, nice try though. And btw there are many countries that have indeed legalized gay marriage and guess what - they are still standing…

Having sex with animals is no more un-normal than having sex with the same gender… If nature intended for two people of the same sex to be together, they'd be able to reproduce…. If you can't reproduce than its not normal….might as well as have sex with a goat. Sure the idiot govt can be bullied into "legalizing" gay marriage…. Doesn't mean it's normal… It's not. It just means you're a bully and they are idiots… Congrats. Have a nice childless life.

Re: Ojsakila – I'm sterile, can't have kids, and I'm straight. But that's unnatural so I'm going to hell, right?

  16. Seto says – reply to this

Re: Ojsakila – lol since when is sex only used for reproductive purposes? Hell not even animals do it only for that purpose. And being 'sexual' is a minor part of who I am. U sound so ignorant, I feel sorry for you.

Re: Ojsakila – how can you compare people to dogs? are you that ugly that no one wants to fuck you ???? wouldn't be surprised, small minded trailer trash usually is …

There is a BIG difference in the equality you are purportedly demanding of every single person, and then asking them to ignore their religious beliefs. One can treat others equally, have true friendships with dignity and respect. But remember respect goes both ways, respect ones religious beliefs. Your assumption of the Mormon church to be so awful because they do not preach that same sex marriage is part of their belief system is based in fairy tales, where they all lived happily ever-after. Real life is not like that, and to truly wish or want equality where you show no tolerance doesnt show you are practicing what you yourself are preaching.

  19. 19

Just being honest, you aren't going to get what you want about it not being considered a sin. The Bible calls it one. However, as a Christian, I've had huge issues with the church world for a long time. Most seem to want to forget about loving one another as Christ loves us in favor of judging others. I think the Mormon church is right in what they stated and I really wish the mainstream church would react similarly. Acting on homosexual urges is considered a sin, in the same way that any sex before marriage is, as well as lying. I'm probably going to be hammered for this on here, but I don't see why if the whole point is for us all to be able to believe as we choose. I personally don't believe its a choice to be gay, I know many people who believe that and I find it insane. But that doesn't change what the Bible says either.

The opening comment of the Story is a partial one. All things should be taken in the context for which it was intended. Miscommunicatio, or even the lack of communication, is the root of all misunderstanding. To see what the Mormons really believe on the subject you should visit

  21. 21

The Mormon Church is entirely too stubborn on this. They need to let go. They also need to loosen their grip on the Boy Scouts and let them get on with business without worrying who's gay and who's not.

Re: Ojsakila – you can start your beastiality but dont change the focus here

Re: Ojsakila – your whole purpose is to have children? lol

  24. Jodi says – reply to this

It's shocking to me how many of these comments are just people who want to be angry and attack things they don't understand. I appreciate the positivity, Perez. The LDS church hasn't really changed any doctrine, but, unfortunately, some members needs reminders of how they are expected to treat their fellow man–with love an acceptance.

Re: OjsakilaRe: Ojsakila – The ONLY sex that is normal is one in which the potential for reproduction is present? Well then, according to your logic, oral sex is also abnormal, as would be any heterosexual sexual activity that does not involve vaginal penile insertion with ejaculation.

Our organs have multiple purposes and sex is one of them (affection, stress relief and procreation). "Multi-purpose" use of our organs is actually what's normal and is also very efficient.

We both eat and talk with the mouth. So which is the abnormal usage? We need to eat to survive, must be talking. Also our brains, it runs all of our bodily functions needed to live. It also provides higher cognitive functions such as imagination and communication. Which is the normal use?

Attempting to define the absolute of normality, leads one down the path to defining a master "template." Someone else tried that last century with catastrophic results. You are now suggesting we do the same.

For you, I would suggest you practice what you preach and use both your mouth and brain for their "normal" purposes only and leave talking and communication aside, being abnormal uses of your brain (and mouth) and all.

i am a Mormon and our belief had been like that ever since. i have a gay friend who is a member of the Church as well and we never ever made him feel any less than what he's worth. I also know a couple of gay members of the Church who grew up in the church, never married and never had a problem with discrimination or following our principles. I was just saying that there isn't any revision made.

This isn't any change. This is the same thing we have been saying and teaching for years. As a member of the church, I don't know how to tell you all that I see nothing particularly special or different in this statement from Salt Lake City. It seems to me that it is more of a public relations campaign as an outreach to society which has not been sure what we teach about homosexuality. There really is not anything new here for those of us who know what has been taught for decades. I see it as a response to the constant pressures and ridicule from groups criticizing the church. All the church really wants to do is protect marriage. We allow everyone to live as they want. As a church we know that if same sex marriage becomes law; the abuse of church members for teaching against homosexuality will grow and our religious freedom will be lost.

Re: rickraton – Wow, could you possibly be LESS tolerant? Some people are just trying to live their lives the best the can. It makes me sad that you consider an organization urging others to treat people with respect and acceptance a bad thing.
