I'm not surprised that taylor is selling more, she's really commercial and has that tween market that is pretty much unstoppable. I don't listen to taylor's music but I would not say that she's not talented just because I don't like her style of music.

Lady Gaga hasn't had an album out since May of last year, and Taylor just had a hugely successful #1 album not one month ago. Of course Taylor is selling better right now, she's fresher in everyone's minds while Gaga is out of the country touring. Every date has sold out so far.

Gaga did well with a couple of her bigger hit tunes, and thus got a lot of mainstream gigs until the hits were tired. Her emphasis seemed to switch to more controversial imagery and controversial songs/lyrics to match, rather than great tunes that could be comfortably featured on family television. Taylor fills that safe niche. Mainstream media still has immense power to propel sales.
