Kate Middleton Hospital Prank DJs Work For Radio Station Known For Scandalous Tricks!

| Filed under: Media MinuteKate MiddletonSad Sad

Well this is just odd!

It seems 2DayFM, the Australian radio station that suspended DJs Michael Christian and Mel Greig for their Kate Middleton hospital prank, has a history of orchestrating dangerous hoaxes!

Back in 2009 another program on the station called the Kyle and Jackie O Show paid a listener $1000 to call her sister and try and make her believe that their mother had been horribly injured and needed medical assistance…

UMMMM WTF?!?!!

Well, the sister DID call authorities and paramedics rushed to the scene, where they obviously found the mother to be perfectly fine.

Police even ended up launching an investigation into the prank!

THEN later on in 2009, the same 2dayFM radio show thought it would be funny to have a teenager take a lie detector test in front of her mother while being asked about sex…

And girl ended up revealing she had been raped at age 12!

This ALSO led to an investigation and the DJs got a week suspension.

Now, obviously tricks and hoaxes are aired on radio stations across the globe on a daily bases, but wouldn't a station which has had issues with scandalous pranks in the past have known better than to OK the Kate Middleton hospital call?

Obviously anything that dupes the English Royal family AND that deals with someone's HEALTH has disaster written all over it!

I have always hated shock jocks. They are so immature and retarded. Lot of the pranks they pull aren't even funny. it's really childish. I can remember driving to work in the morning flipping through stations in my car with idiots like this yelling into the mics already at 7am. They are so fucking stupid. people need to just grow the fuck up, man.

The radio station should lose their license.

Can not believe that. They should be fired and never able to work in the radio world again. They owe an apology to the nurses family & Kate and William.

    BRITISH royal family, not English.

Addressing only the fact that they were prank calling a hospital where the extremely ill are residing is as inappropriate as calling 911 as a joke. Emergency workers need to give their time to those that are having an illness, you know the kind you go to the hospital for. Obviously their parents never taught them this. This is an example to us as parents - teach your children or the world will teach them. no one approves of what they did. no one and the fact that this nurse committed suicide is just one more step in demonstrating how such thoughtless behavior effects others. I dont feel bad for them or the backlash they are recieving for it. I have as much sympathy for them as they did for the Duchess.

I saw them on tv crying. I do feel sorry for them, but as adults, they should know that places like police stations, fire departments, and hospitals should be off limits. I don't like the fact that people are still saying that it's just a prank and they are not to blame. Did you know that most of the pranks right here in the U.S are fake, and it's actually against the law to prank people in some states? Yep people are getting paid for these fake radio station pranks. Pranks could be deadly and this is not the first case.

Thank you baby Jesus that it was not an American pulling this retarded prank!

All the djs involved were fired. The nurse they called who divulged information ended up committing suicide when she found out what she did.

I hope they get sued for everything!

You would think it would be common sense to NOT prank call 911, police, fire dept, hospitals etc to begin with. SMH If they are so hard up for material they have to prank hospitals and sick patients maybe it's time they found another job anyway.

Given their previous history it makes their claim of ignorance sound very insincere. It's asking for trouble to prank people you know nothing about.

Re: Maggie Watkins – The station and their lawyers vet everything that they (the brass) then decide to put on the air.

@anon Actually they weren't fired they've just decided to not come back on air for a while.

I find it unbelievable how everyone is so quick to point the finger at them like 'yep their prank call is totally the only reason the poor nurse killed herself.' Yes it's a very sad situation but I don not for one second believe it was the DJs fault. Just because this woman suicided doesn't mean we should immediately start pointing fingers while forgetting the fact that she didn't follow proper hospital procedure. Yes it's an extremely tragic situation, but let's not play the blame game on something that nobody could have forseen. The Djs only fault is that it was a bad and unfunny prank.

You have to have a moral compass when doing pranks or it's just not funny…it's mean. If my sister did that 2009 prank to me, I would beat her a$$. Kate was extremley sick, not a time for a prank.

I love 2DayFM Kyle and Jacky O are my faves. The reason I love them? They're funny! All the shows are great. They play pranks, who doesn't? Kyle has done way worse! For a legal action to be successful the death needed to be foreseen by a reasonable person in our courts, no reasonable person would foresee a harmless prank to ever end in suicide. At the end of the day she was stupid enough to give out information, lets not sugar coat it. Medical, legal and other information can never be given over the phone. Blaming a radio on a prank is ridiculous the Dj's will get a short suspension after everything blows over and then they're back on air.

the hospital staff came under attack, and no the radio station hosts are coming under attack. doesnt anyone see the hypocracy in this! if one of the radio announcers take their life maybe the ignorant will finally release its the media thats at fault; and to some extent ourselves to being part of the fuel that feeds the news fire.

2Day FM is a hilarious radio station that is one of the most popular stations in sydney. People wouldn't listen to it if they didn't enjoy the pranks they pull. Yes sometimes they go a bit far but the death of the nurse was not the fault of the DJs AT ALL. There could have been a thousand different factors that caused this woman to take her own life. The prank call could have just been the icing on the cake. People should not say that 2Day FM should lose their license and be sued for something ANY other radio station could have and would have done.. people need to find their sense of humour and realise these events are almost completely unrelated.

I have to vent, I feel sorry for the DJ's in Australia. All they were doing was a phone prank. They never thought anyone would buy those really bad accents, they should have been hung up on! Here comes the vent: No one in the Royal family got hurt. What exactly does Australia owe Enland? ( Other than being created by England clearing out their prisons and shipping them to Autralia, so they tame that wild Country and make it liveable for the Lords and ladies.) Also if someone kills their self over embarassment, and not consider her Children. She either has mental issues or something major is going on in her life!
    That is my personal opinion.

Here's an idea maybe the woman shouldnt have been such a coward and killed herself? It's not the Dj's fault that she put them through, she should have taken responsibility for her own actions
