This has been a tragic, overwhelming day for local authorities in Newtown.
In all the chaos, officials allegedly have confused the name of the suspected gunman.
Certain law enforcement officials are saying the shooter responsible for the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School is Adam Lanza — NOT his brother Ryan Lanza (pictured above).
Ryan tipped off authorities of the misidentify by changing his Facebook status, saying: "it wasn't me" and "I was at work."
Sources have also confirmed that the shooter (Adam) was shot dead inside the school. His fatal wound was self-infliceted.
UPDATE: In a press conference Lt. Paul Vance told reporters he can not confirm the identity of the shooter for investigative purposes. However, it is strongly still believe that Adam was the gunman.
