Tom Cruise’s violent thriller, Jack Reacher, is not off to a welcome start in lieu of the Sandy Hook tragedy.
First, the film’s Pittsburgh, star-packed premiere was cancelled and now a screening of the film in New York’s Lincoln center has been postponed. The cancellations are to the film’s familiar plot, including a murderous sniper.
Rose Kuo, executive director of the Film Society of Lincoln Center, said in an official statement:
“Out of respect for the families who lost loved ones in Newtown, CT, we are postponing tonight's fundraising event with Tom Cruise to benefit the 50th anniversary fund, which supports K-12 education and new artist programs. We extend our love and condolences to our neighbors. Our community grieves with yours."
Hollywood is unfortunately always an affected bystander when it comes to national tragedies that have become all too common. Remember when Ryan Gosling’s Gangster Squad had to postpone the film's release and reshoot scenes following the Aurora, Colorado killings?
We’re just glad to know that everyone’s priorities are aligned right now!!
