NRA Wants Guns In Schools… Guns With The Guards, That Is

nra press conference lapierre protestor

We really hope it wasn't the NRA's intention to make them look better with their press conference following the Sandy Hook shooting.

Cuz according to the opinions roaring through the social media web, they FAILED… miserably.

Chief Executive Wayne LaPierre urged lawmakers to station armed police officers at every school by the time kids go back in the new year.

As he puts it:

"The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun."

He also made it a point to note that airports and banks are usually armed with properly-equipped guards, so why not schools!?

But then he didn't take any questions from reporters… (boo)

The press conference was interrupted multiple times by protestors shouting against the NRA, blaming them for the death of Newtown's children (see above).

Celebrities weighed in too, with some of them tweeting:

It's definitely a complicated topic with no black or white answer.

We just wish the NRA would truly engage in the conversation.

How do U feel about this??

I was really hoping that the NRA would endorse, in some way, on some level, controls for the sale of certain weapons. Silly me. Unfortunately, the NRA is right. Until there are gun control measures, mental health improvements, and better training for school personnel in how to handle assaults, we need armed guards in schools.

ALL WHO VOTE REPUBLICAN ARE MURDERERS!

My high school was not exactly in the best part of town and we had 3 armed police officers and there was never a serious incident like Sandy Hook, but they did stop some pretty brutal fights. Not with their gun, because I'm sure they were well trained to use it as a last resort. I can say for a fact they saved some kid's lives though, the fights at my school were aimed to do damage. And they were more patrol than anything, there was one at both entrances of the school and one near our cafeteria which was the center of the school. And they didn't have their gun in hand or unsecured, it was strapped in on their hip. So a student couldn't just grab it.
So I support this a hell of a lot more than I support every teacher being armed because honestly I don't think some teachers are stable enough to have a weapon in school.

When celebrities give up their armed security for themselves and their children, the can join the discussion on gun control. Until then, go back to your bubble and shut up!

Re: boston61 – I take offense to calling me a murderer since I am a Republican. I am just as appalled at what happened not only in Ct but in the movies and in the mall. Did you ever stop and think that these sick people pick these places because they know that the people there are unarmed! Teachers is Israel carry weapons to protect their students and guess what, yeah that's right no problems like we have here! Educate yourself please!

I had armed police officers at quite a number of the schools I went to, NOT in bad neighborhoods. I didn't know this wasn't the norm, even as a child I thought it was a good idea to have officers in schools.

  7. 7

I wonder if those same protestors who blamed the NRA for the Newton shooting blame cars for all of the drunk driving accidents.

  8. 8

Considering every University has its own armed police force, its not a new idea. The press just wants to blow it out of proportion. Its certainly a better idea than banning one type of gun to solve a mental health issue.

  9. 9

Will the NRA be providing the cash for the schools to pay for the armed guards?!

Re: Ravenlover – Don’t take anything boston61 says seriously. He’s a few fruit loops shy of a full bowl and loves blaming everything on republicans. “Ouch, I got a splinter! Those damn republicans and their murderous wood!” “My pizza is not here in under 30 minutes. I bet those damn republicans are holding the delivery guy hostage!”

Republicans also destroyed our economy. They are destroying our environment. They are preventing the USA from moving forward with new technology. They are preventing the USA from being able to compete with China. They are preventing our government for being able to work properly for the people. They are responsible for allowing foreign corporations great power in the running of our country. They sold a big chunk of our country to China to pay for their stupid Iraq war. Their biggest tax break in history created zero jobs. And, they are responsible for losers being able to buy freaking machine guns to "protect" their ugly boring selves with.

When will people understand that you don"t need assault weapons in your home? It's crazy !
Where in the 2nd amendment does it say you have the right to have a gun in your house that can kill 20 people in 15 seconds ?

Wouldn't it cost some major dough, that the states do not have, to station police officers outside schools…and while regrettably there are school shootings, are they frequent enough to take officers off the streets?

Re: boston61 – Pssst . . . Rush Limbaugh has a radio talk show that isn’t affiliated with the news channel you get off on hating. It’s apparent you’ve never watched Fox News, which makes your arguments completely unfounded. Now you might want to sit down for this next bit of information. They even have Libertarians and Democrats/Liberals working for them as well! Now get rid of all that hate and have yourself a Merry little Christmas!

Re: boston61 – Yes, News Corporation owns Fox News. It probably owns the publishing house that published the last book you read. Might even own the studio that produced the last movie you enjoyed. Moving on . . . in 1985, Murdoch renounced his Australian citizenship and became an American citizen. Now go have some egg nog and watch a movie. You may want to make sure it’s produced by a studio other than News Corp. so that some random pinhead doesn’t ignorantly call you a traitor.

To all the morons crying for gun control: Let's examine it from the point of view of advancing technology. Let's use the metaphor of lighting instead of guns. Lets say that everyone has to legally only use candles, but your government, other countries and criminals can have incandescent, cfl or halogen lighting or whatever technology offers. But legally you can only get candles. Seems stupid. So why would it be just fine with you, to make laws that would keep law abiding citizens from having the same technological advances as whomever they are wanting to protect themselves from. What a bunch of idiots you all are.

  32. 32

What the NRA is suggesting is more logical and rational than a ban on ARs and extended magazines. Considering the Clinton 1994 ban did not work, there is no evidence supporting they it had any positive OR negative effects. We had a cop stationed at my middle school even though it was a rural school that never had any problems amongst their kids. We had 3 groups who ate in the cafeteria, it was full and the cop was there all 3 times. There's really no reason why we shouldn't. The arming the teachers thing was a bad suggestion and they made themselves look foolish. But as said, the armed, TRAINED guard at schools isn't exactly a bad idea in the slightest. You can't STOP crazy, no matter how much useless crap you ban or try to regulate. We tried regulating and banning alcohol. That failed and created organized crime. Then we tried doing it with drugs. Also failed. Then we tried it with ARs in 1994, also failed. This time won't be any different.

You haven't refuted thing I've said except for Murdocks purchase of citizenship here for power reasons. I did not know that. Nice of you to support his attempted coup d'état of our government. The NRA loves you doing their propaganda work for them. They are laughing all the way to the bank. Making obscene money from morons who get-off on stoking a gun. Who cares if the non 1%s kill each other? That's what they want. They are killing 2 birds with one gun.

Police officers at schools would be a good thing, but now all the anti-gun morons are having a meltdown. I remember during the election all this fluff talk on needing more teachers, police officers and firemen. Now we have the opportunity to add more police jobs and all the libtards are screaming foul. Maybe that would take too much government money away from welfare!! HAHA
