Tom Cruise And Judd Apatow Tackled By The Hobbit In The Weekend Box Office!

| Filed under: Film FlickersTom CruiseBusiness BlitzPaul Rudd

Tom Cruise may be taller than a hobbit - not by much, mind you - but this weekend, our friends from Middle Earth towered above the A-list star…in the weekend box office!

After having the largest-ever December debut, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey continued strong for the second time, making an estimated $36.7 million between Friday and Sunday!

And THAT, friends, brings their domestic total to $150 million!

Jack Reacher, meanwhile, came in second with only $15.6 million…and Paul Rudd's This Is 40 followed close by with $12 million, making it the smallest-ever Judd Apatow-directed debut!

But honestly, what could they have expected?

Peter Jackson's adaptations of J.R.R. Tolkien is a STAPLE for the holiday season, after all!

Ch-ch-check out the rest of the box office top ten…AFTER THE JUMP!!!

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, $36.7 million
Jack Reacher, $15.6 million
This Is 40, $12 million
Rise of the Guardians, $5.9 million
Lincoln, $5.6 million
The Guilt Trip, $5.4 million
Monsters, Inc. 3D, $5 million
Skyfall, $4.7 million
Life of Pi, $3.8 million
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2, $2.6 million

I went to see the Hobbit last and it was really good. I don't go to the movies much these days unless it's a movie I know will be great, like the Hobbit.

Sorry I read both The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy and no questionLOTRs blows Hobbit out of the water. Not sure if I will see any movies this week, and if you knew me that is unusual for me. Living on Social Security and a small pension I have to be picky.

I went to the multiplex to see Jack Reacher and half way through it, I realized all these short peolpe were Hobbits, not Tom Cruise.
