Taylor Swift's Star Power Wasn't Needed For Les Misérables! Casting Snub Explained!

| Filed under: Film FlickersTaylor Swift

We were kind of bummed when we heard Taylor Swift wasn't ultimately cast as Eponine, but producer Cameron Mackintosh had good reasoning to go with the lesser-known Samantha Bark.

And thankfully, it doesn't involve a blow to Swifty's ego!

Cameron explained:

"She's a lovely woman and she auditioned, and she was completely un-starry. And she's talented. It's just that actually the requirements of that role were better fitted by Sam.. Nearly every name you've heard in the gossip columns are true, came up for Eponine, and it's wonderful I think that somebody completely unknown got it."

Besides her stardom, maybe Taylor's big smile and Tenessee twang were too much for the likes of lovesick Eponine?

Oh well, it's not like Tay Tay needed the role.

In fact, we're happy she didn't get it because that promo tour would've distracted her from her BEAUTIFUL boytoy, Harry Styles!!!! All things happen for a reason, right?! HA!

Old news. Taylor did not get the role because she would have sucked at it. She is a horrible and unnatural actress. The backlash when it was leaked in the tabloids that she might get the role was probably enough for the producers to know that she would be all wrong for it.

Who is disappointed she was not cast? Lord knows I'm not. She would have been horrible for the part. And to say she did not get cast only to now date the boytoy from one direction…..yea that does not even deserve words.

If they'd hired Taylor Swift the whole film would have been about her. People would have been wondering whether she could act, whether she could sing musical theatre, how they would make her look, whether she was dating one of her male co-stars etc. It wouldn't have been about the film. Sam Barks has a history of musical theatre and knew the part inside out. It was a logical choice.

First of all, SHE CAN"T ACT…Second, SHE CAN BARELY SING…Third, this HORSE-TEETH slut is too busy fucking young boys!!!

Samantha Barks was the standout in this movie and incredible as Eponine. She is amazing and there is no question after the rest of the world sees the movie, Samantha Barks will be an A-lister. Side note: everyone who complains about how Taylor "goes through all these guys" must have been lucky enough to find the love of their life on their first try. That's what happens in the real world. You date. You break up. You date someone else. And I imagine as a celebrity it's probably even more difficult. Secondly, I am over double standards. Rock stars and athletes can brag about bedding thousands of women for the sake of sex (not even dating) and how many STDs they contracted yet Taylor can't date as she sees fit? Wrong. Yes, she can.

she didn't get the role because there is a God. and God loves musicals with people who can actually sing and act. And because Samantha Barks was born to be Éponine and break our little hearts in pieces.

Thank GOD Taylor didn't get it… if only they would have casted someone other then Seyfried… she sucked balls to… neither of them can sing!

considering Taylor would have been like considering Paris Hilton ja aja….

even the annoying girl from Glee was better fitted and thats LOW

We love Taylor, and hope the very best for her.

We like Paris. You should remove the log from your eye, before you seek the speck in another.

What a joke she is a pop singer and nowhere near talented enough for the role. Samantha Barks is amazing and totally deserved that role.

She is way too light and fluffy a perfomer. She would have stunk. Anne Hathaway was bad enough but at least Hathaway can act. Taylor & Just Beiber are light weight pop teeny bopper stars. I wish people would stop overstating their talent.

I definitely think that casting director was being nice. Every time Taylor has sang live she hasn't really done that well and a lot of the music in the movie was done live. On top of that anything I've seen her act in she is very exaggerated and I could definitely see her make Eponine's character a little more over the top than usual.

  14. 14

this is going to sound mean but i don't think she could have carried that role at all and the people who decided she could must have been high.

  15. 15

Haters gonna hate - so, tell me how is Les Miserables doing at the box office? I don't see anything pertaining to ticket sales at all.
I am going to say that if Taylor would have been cast - there would have be a few more million tickets sold. Swifties would have gone to see the show - at least.
Taylor is a superstar and could easily have handled this role. What you don't know is she has acting abilities that are as yet untapped. Taylor will get movie roles and she will be a star. Doesn't matter what the public opinion of her is - she has already proven herself as a six (6) time Grammy and (2) time CMA Entertainer of the Year .

Taylor did not get the role because she is not suited for it. She lacks the vocal range, theatricality, power, and raw emotion needed to portray Eponine. Not to mention she cannot act (Valentine's Day). Eponine is a complex character - not a lovesick girl like this site says and Taylor probably thought (let's be honest, it was probably the only reason she wanted the part in the first place).

Re: The Moment I Knew – Untapped acting abilities? Have you seen her "act" in Valentine's Day? Have you heard her sing live? Eponine is a strong and complex character who requires a theatrical and powerful voice that conveys emotion.

And on the subject of Taylor bringing in more viewers - Le Miserables is a work of art. Selling out would be a crime.

Can we all take a moment to appreciate Samantha's voice? I don't think anyone else would've done it better than her. FAR better than Taylor Swift's, that I can't even begin to compare them two together.

Ewwwww! Taylor Swift would have HANDS DOWN ruined this movie is she was in it. Samantha Barks was AMAZING, hope to see more of her and less of Taylor Swift in the future. Sorry but Taylor Swift is a singer not an actress, and isn't even very good.

  21. 21

She would have ruined the ENTIRE movie is she got casted as Eponine! Sam Barks was brilliant!

Re: The Moment I Knew – taylor is a marketing tool. Blonde, tall, pretty, white and relatable. All very good traits for someone who intends on selling loads of albums therefore leading to grammies and awards highlighting her high ticket sales and album sales. It does not mean she is the most talented out there. There are many song writers out there with more talent, but taylor's dad's "contribution" to bigmachine records helped her career (it's a known secret in Nashville) and also because of her looks and her connection to her fans. Imagine taylor's songs sung by a chubby average looking woman, she wouldn't be as famous and we all know that. On top of that, her dating life keeps us reeled in and that is a fact. Taylor Swift knows her market well and that is why she is still famous. For you to slam les miserables is so high school of you. Taylor auditioned, but she didn't get it, so what, life goes on.

I'm going to be honest here… I like Taylors music but if she was in Les Mis…. I would have not watched it since I saw her in Valentines day and yeah…. She's not a very good actress and yes she has good songs but I don't think she can sing very good at all. I'm not trying to smack her down, I'm just being honest. I'm sure a lot of people can agree that she can't really sing very well. She can pull it off as a singer though. If she was in the movie you would be hearing all these fantastic theater singers and then you'd hear a not so good voice. They'd make Taylor sound awful and I can't picture her voice singing on my own. Taylor…. PLEASE stick to country music! They made the right choice by choosing Samantha Barks! She did amazing!
