Sweetie, Les Mis is not getting 'rave' reviews, just good ones. It's only at 72% on RT. Adam has the right to his opinion. It's a musical, the most important thing is the singing and if some actors couldn't pull that off, that is a problem.

  4. 4

I can understand where hes coming from. When you are a professional, is very easy for someone to pick on the little details when you see something related to your field of work. I'm in filming and when I see some technical error in a movie is very difficult for me to enjoy it from then on… Tricks of the trade. :/

Sour grapes anyone? I didn't exactly see him cast in the movie (thank God for that).

I agree if him on this one

  7. 7

I see his point - singing comes first to him, so I'm sure that is the most important part for him. It is kinda like how ballet dancers felt about Black Swan. But overall he says much more positive than negative.

Ha Ha! Can't believe Perez actually made the comment, "Well..you do know what they say about opinions!" No room to talk he's is the biggest one of all! Many of the reviews are good and for the acting skills while many agree with Adam's perception of the vocals. As for being cast in the movie….he's been too busy touring the world with his awesome vocals!

To a point, I completely agree with him. A few of the actors were chosen based on celebrity status or their acting. While acting is important, the singing is just as important as acting in musicals, especially ones like Les Mis. A couple songs I was taken out of because the singing was pretty bad.

Adam could not be more right… The singing in the movie is terrible.

  18. 18

and it actually ruined the whole movie…

  19. 19

100% spot on he is! I loved the film, but the only one who could sing was that sweet little freckle face Marius (Redmayne).

Most actors are not singers. And most singers are not actors. When actors are cast in a singing role, they are usually assigned a vocal coach who helps them deliver the best performance they can, which is typically not as good a vocal performance as you would get with a singer. A professional singer may chafe at the result, and reasonably so. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. If you think the knives wouldn't be out for Adam Lambert in an acting role, think again. When you're a professional, there's always the possibility of judgement coming your way. At least Adam Lambert knows what he's talking about here, which is more than most critics can claim.

  21. 21

he is more than right! the singing ruined the movie…

I DO NOT agree with him. I'm so glad they didn't sing in the studio because it would've ruined the whole experience for me. I don't think the director intended for the singing to be "perfect" or "fixed" you were supposed to feel the characters emotions when they sang, and I think they did a fantastic job. Plus, I don't think that Adam Lambert should be comparing Dream Girls and Les Miserables. Dream Girls was shit. The acting (Beyonce, though I like her) was not great and the only actors/actresses that did okay was Eddie Murphy and Jennifer Hudson. Shouldn't he be focusing on his career than to criticize others?

If any of you know anything about Adam, he's a musical theater performing, meaning that he is good at BOTH acting and singing. A musical like Les Miserables cannot sacrifice bad singing. You need to cast people who are just as good at both. In all honesty, you have to wonder why the director didn't just scout out Broadway people who have already mastered both singing and acting at high levels.

Re: conner – Are you illiterate? Anyone who can read knows Adam toured Europe with Queen this summer and he has been on TV here in the states 17 times this year. Also he performed today at a $800 a plate NYE party in Bali. Not counting his month long tour of Asia starting in February. Guess you just like to comment to hear yourself comment. Get the facts before you do again.

as a gay person who probably appreciates dudes like Adam more than most, i gotta say - LOOK AT THIS FOOL! what the hell is he wearing?! and that fucked up bad 90s dyed facial hair! really, Adam, you need to just let yourself be the ginger you truly are, this black hair dye shit doesn't work for you AT. ALL. i know you want it to work, i know you think this "goth glamfag" shit works for you, but alas it does not - it really, really DOES NOT WORK FOR YOU - you look like you're trying out for a magician-Liberace part in some joke of an off-broadway show. GET A BETTER LOOK! also? you, of all people, shouldn't be commenting on ANYone's singing abilities, "real" or not, because your obnoxious over-the-top voice destroys eardrums. your motto for 2013 needs to be: TONE THAT SHIT *DOWN*. no. really. tone it down already. it's too fucking much. and it's WHY you don't get the parts in musicals and shows you're so bitter & envious over, ie: Les Mis. (aw, poor butthurt whiny baby). HAPPY NEW YEAR!

its too bad adam wasn't in it. he's very talented. Yes, that little blonde girl was painful to hear but they usually cats a very weak poor voice for that role in every rendition for some reason. But he should have kept his mouth shut.

Russel Crowe had no business being in that movie. He was awful. Everyone else was great!
Also, they should have spoke the dialogue rather than sing it; like RENT did. Woulda made a huge difference.

he is totally right. i saw this musical in the west end with alfie boe, sierra boggess (phantom of the opera) samantha barks (also eponine in the movie) and it was amazing both the acting and the singing. to than see a movie with bad singing just makes me gringe. this is not a play with a few songs for entertainment the music tells the story. and just because you want to show emotion doesn't mean you sing badly, that is just a poor excuse of the director. they should have casted more broadway/west end stars who are more allround and capable to preform wellin both the songs and the acting. samantha barks was a great cast, they should of added ramin karimloo and sierra boggess their voices are to die for!!

I have to agree with him that the singing is not the best from the snippets I have heard. But then Adam should know that singing life is quite often misses than hits. If he has ever listened to the live stream of his stint with the Queens and some of his own live performances he should know. Mistakes are much easier to detect on recordings than in live shows because of the noise and atmosphere.

Re: adamfan – He has never been on Broadway and we don't count high school or local theater as professional productions. The guy was in the fucking chorus for god's sake. No Broadway producer wants him. He has no room to talk.

My wife and I enjoyed Les Miserables much-much more than we ever enjoyed Adam Lambert. We paid to watch Les Miserables and might watch it again; but, we would not pay to watch Adam or hear Adam Lambert.

Adam can keep his tunes in his cold shower…

Re: connerRe: conner – Crawl out from the rock you are living under. Adam's new album debuted at #1 on Billboard the first week. He just headlined the New Year's Eve celebration in Bali. Just because the USA is so homophobic that that radio stations won't play him doesn't mean that he isn't an international success - he is - just not in the US.

I think they should have hired broadway singers, real hard working singers with whom sung those words first!

  42. 42

I would say Marius (Redmayne) definitely stole the show. Even Samantha Barks didn't sound that great to me and she was one of the better ones. I'm not gonna even get into Amanda Seyfried's AWFUL vibrato.

And what was this director's OBSESSION with the close-ups? Being in all of the actor's nostrils was SO unsettling. The acting was superb but the music was HORRIBLE.

Well, in my opinion, while Les Mis IS a musical, this is a musical FILM. In the stage version, strong voices are very important, but in the film, I think the acting is just as important as the singing. If not more. The acting was absolutely stupendous and completely convincing. The actors' voices weren't horrendous either. Russell Crowe is not a good singer, but other than that, they were all wonderful. Well… Amanda Seyfried was definitely a little disappointing. But other than that, I was in awe of Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Eddie Redmayne, Samantha Barks, and Aaron Tveit. Bravo.
