Samuel L. Jackson Commands Film Critic To Say The N-Word

| Filed under: TV NewsFilm FlickersSamuel L. JacksonQuentin Tarantino

When a badass like Samuel L. Jackson tells you to jump, the only acceptable response is usually "how high?"

Not this time, however.

While talking about the controversial language surrounding Django Unchained, you'd never believe what wild request the star made of film critic Jake Hamilton — he asked him to say the N-Word!

During a televised interview!

Ch-ch-check out racially charged awkwardness at about the 14:01 mark in the clip (above)!

Regardless of the point Sammy was trying to make, the word is hurtful and offensive to many people — and there's a very good chance using it on air could've gotten him in very hot water with his Fox affiliate!

Jackson realizes that constantly using the word will, over time, dilute it's meaning. Hiding it in the closet forever is what gives it power.

It's just a word, and it's used every day. Simple as that.

While I agree with you all that it is just a word and diluting it may just pull some of the sting out of it, I am incredibly proud of this young reporter for not giving in to the pressure to use the word. He would have inevitably been vilified for using it and most likely would have had to apologize. I have to admit that as much as I try not to be affected by words, they are powerful and sometimes we ALL have to deal with that reality and go with what is appropriate rather than say what we feel we should have a right to say. C-words, F-words, N-words, P-words…..we need to accept that there is a time & place for everything and exercise discipline. It's good for you.
