Illinois is in the midst of an intense battle to legalize same-sex marriage, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson isn't afraid to stand on the front lines!

The gay rights' advocate and Modern Family man visited Chicago with his fiancé Justin Mikita and helped promote the inspirational message through his non-profit foundation Tie the Knot.

In a statement, he said:

"I certainly respect everyone's right to their opinion, but I think at the end of the day we all have to agree that treating any American as a second-class citizen is not OK."

It's hard to argue with that!

Bravo, JTF!

Between his support and President Obama's, Illinois will hopefully keep fighting the good fight and someday soon be the 10th state to permit all couples who love each other to marry!

    This is such a joke
Wake up and smell the coffee
Illinois has so many major problems, the highest murder rate in the country, unemployment at over 10%, school test scores way below, the already low average, drop out rate very high, STDS through the roof, political corruption galore
but Jesse thinks Same-Sex Marraige is what needs attention

Isn't marriage "The formal union of a man and a woman, typically recognized by law, by which they become husband and wife."? It is! Man and man, or woman and woman, doesn't quite fit into this definition, does it? Why is it that gay people are so determined to shove it down everyone's throat that they are gay? Give us a break here! You want to be together, be together. I really couldn't care less if people are gay or straight. I am not running up to a gay couple and talk about my bedroom antics, so why is it so important to them to get on some stage and shout about it? What bugs me is the fact that they bring out their private lives and force me to know about it. Quite disgusting.
