oscars daniel craig james bond tribute sean connery academy awards 50

Congratulations, 007s!

It took 50 years, but the Academy Awards finally recognized your incalcluable contributions to the cinematic landscape!

We don't know whether Skyfall will earn any nominations, that announcement will be made next week, but the 85th Oscar Committee just unveiled plans for a special tribute to the iconic spy franchise.

It's about time!

Only two of the dozens of James Bond in existence have won Academy Awards and both were in technical categories.

We're happy the British bad boy will stir shake things up on Oscar night! This past year gave us a surplus of quality films, but Skyfall was one of the best!

Hopefully Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem, and the filmmakers get the recognition they deserve!

Here is the Academy's official announcement:

BEVERLY HILLS, CA – The 85th Academy Awards® will include a tribute to the James Bond movie franchise, which is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year, the telecast’s producers announced today.

“We are very happy to include a special sequence on our show saluting the Bond films on their 50th birthday,” said producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. “Starting with ‘Dr. No’ back in 1962, the 007 movies have become the longest-running motion picture franchise in history and a beloved global phenomenon.”

The 85th Academy Awards nominations will be announced live on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at 5:30 a.m. PT in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2012 will be presented on Oscar® Sunday, February 24, 2013, at the Dolby Theatre™ at Hollywood & Highland Center®, and televised live on the ABC Television Network. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 225 countries worldwide.

Well, you know…the Eon Productions success story was from across the pond, so it took a full half century for the news of its success to finally reach the outbacks of American Hollywood. A number of Hollywood studios did not want to fund the films, finding them "too British" or "too blatantly sexual". Lol.

I hope they give Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan awards, they were the best every.
I ran into Pierce on Kauai one time, he is very nice and has a home on the North Shore which is just so beautiful.
