James McAvoy Gandalf Hobbit Prequel

James McAvoy has played a lover, a mutant, an assassin, a soldier, a lover- pretty much everything!

Did we mention a lover! Lolz!

So, what is the versatile actor's dream role? Something we'd never guess in a million years! According to James:

"I’d like to play Gandalf."

Um, sorry, cutie, but didn't Ian McKellan already take that one?

The X-Men: First Class star is hoping they turn the book prequel into a movie! He says:

"It's called The Silmarillion! It’s a collection of poems and songs that chart the ancient history of Middle-earth. My true geek is coming to the fore, but they’re really, really beautiful stories.

In part of that is the genesis of Gandalf, or Mithrandir, or Stormcrow, or any of his many, many names. Anyway, maybe that’s the one!"

Hmm, young and handsome with a humongous staff and the magic touch? Sounds like a dream to us! LOLz!

sorry to disappoint you but there will be no Simillarion movie because they are going to incorporate it into the 3 Hobbit movies (the original book is only about 4,000 pages) they needed to use something,.

Even the Silmarillion says Gandalf, and all the Itsari (wizards) appeared as elder Men. There was no teen or young adult Gandalf in any of those stories.

When Gandalf arrived in Middle Earth he took the form of an old man. Neither, being one of the Istari, has he aged much since. Sorry Mr McAvoy but you're rather too young!
Secondly, the movie producers don't own the rights to the Silmarillion so, as Philippa Boyens (writer on The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films) has commented, the film makers wouldn't be able to use that material for many years when the copyright runs out. The material added to the Hobbit movies is from the Return of the King appendices.
So perhaps, when the rights to the Silmarillion are available to be bought up by a director, McAvoy will be old enough as it's a rather long time until then!
