Call it karma!
Well, coincidentally, the country's internet is down again!
Previously, when their web went down on Monday, they released a statement saying
Ugh, it's bad enough getting your driver's license picture taken…just imagine having a bad painting of yourself hanging for all to see!
Not exactly what you need when you're already dealing with a pregnancy.
Artist Paul Emsley didn't offend the expectant mother when he unveiled Kate’s official portrait at the National Portrait Gallery, but she might be alone with that.
Prince William, Kate and her family weren't commanding “off with his head” after seeing the artwork. Kate kindly commented:
“I thought it was brilliant.”
But not so quick there, future queen.
Daily Mail art critic Robin Simon was ready to start a feud with his opinion:
"Fortunately, the Duchess of Cambridge looks nothing like this in real life. I’m really sad to say this is a rotten portrait."
Maybe he was just bummed out Kate wasn't showing off her baby bump in her belted burgandy dress at the unveiling?
Despite the harsh words, Paul is standing by his work as he feels he overcame some obstacles in capturing her just right. He said:
“If you are working with someone who has whose face is just a lovely face, it's harder to find something in the portrait that gives it some sort of gravitas. In this case I've tried to do that with the smile and the dimples and the shadows around the face.”
We have to agree, it's not like the painting looks nothing like her.
Plus, it has to be hard making a painting as beautiful as the Duchess.
Maybe he'll do better with a painting of their baby next?
Because THAT we want to see!
