Producer Nigel Lythgoe: Ryan Seacrest Totally CONTROLS American Idol

| Filed under: American IdolRyan Seacrest

Everyone knows about the feuding divas on American Idol this upcoming season.

But the person that really runs the show?

That may be Ryan Seacrest.

Or at least that's what the show's executive producer Nigel Lythgoe thinks.

Here's what he said:

"Ryan Seacrest drives the entire program. He's not on an earpiece or anything. He's not beholden to anybody. He controls the show. He's really important. It would be very, very difficult to replace Ryan Seacrest."

Nigel kind of got a hold of himself before saying anything he may regret. That's a lot of power to give to one guy - even if it is a classy and charming guy like Ryan.

Nigel continued:

"I've never believed that Idol as a franchise is beholden to any individual because everybody said it would die the minute Simon Cowell left, and it hasn't."

Nice save!!!

We doubt Ryan S will hold the show hostage now that he realizes how powerful he is, but it still must be nice for him to feel so wanted.

Keep up the great work, kiddo!

    Arrogant, egotistical Nigel:
NO ONE said "American Idol" would "die the minute Simon Cowell left."
Everyone said it would dive in the ratings.
    And it has. Big time.
17.8 Million viewers last night. Down 20%!
    Disaster!
Despite Fox/19 spending close to A HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS to prop up the show with overpaid "superstar" duds like J. Lo, Ellen, Tyler, Mariah, Urban and the indescribably annoying Minaj.
PLUS, opening the Fox "wallet" to keep the disastrous "X Factor" from jumping to another network.
    Expensive Expensive Expensive.
All because you and midget Mike forgot one thing…
    IT'S ALL ABOUT CHEMISTRY.
    You got lucky with Simon-Paula.
And you've failed miserably with every ridiculous "new" and UNimproved panel.
But you gotta give Nigel & Midget Mike credit, they've ridden "Idol" to lucrative careers - as they've destroyed the format slowly but surely.
    Blaming everyone but themselves.
