Richard Blanco not only became the youngest, but also the first hispanic and openly gay man to deliver the inaugural poem at President Barack Obama's second inauguration today.
We're feeling an OVERWHELMING sense of pride in this moment! The importance of this moment cannot be understated!
If we may, we'd like to share just the first first stanza of Richard's poem, One Day, which states:
One sun rose on us today, kindled over our shores,
peeking over the Smokies, greeting the faces
of the Great Lakes, spreading a simple truth
across the Great Plains, then charging across the Rockies.
One light, waking up rooftops, under each one, a story
told by our silent gestures moving behind windows.
