Tina Turner Leaves US For Switzerland

We guess the big wheel kept on turnin'! Because it brought Tina Turner all the way to Switzerland!

The What's Love Got To Do With It? diva has been living in Zurich for well over a decade, but she always kept her U.S. citizenship.

Well, now Tina is reportedly giving up The Best country in the world for what? Chocolate? And watches? And cheese? And knives? And skiing?

Man, Switzerland has a lot of cool stuff actually…

And Tina thinks so too! She's asking for full citizenship, which we hear the Swiss are only too happy to grant.

More like Tina Turns-her Back On America! JK! You should be allowed to hang your hat wherever you feel like it in this cray cray world!

Besides, where else would we keep a national treasure but in Zurich? LOLz!

Isn't it the number one place to live in the world now? The U.S. has lost that standing.

Good bye Tina. I love you but please, no more plastic surgery!

Run Tina, run like the wind, from BO's confiscatory taxes.

Tina has lived there long enough to know if this is right for her. She came from nothing, became a world class star and deserves to live where she wants and retire in peace. Thanks for all the great music, Tina.

The woman has huge talent, but still an identity problem. Why is she "Tina Turner", Ike "Turner" beat the crap out of her? And Switzerland, of all places? They were never neutral in WWII. They were Hitler's secret ally. The Swiss closed escape routes over it's borders. Billions entered Swiss banks after WWII, some assets from Jewish families who perished in the Holocaust, and some looted from reserves of conquered European countries. The history of the US isn't perfect, but Switzerland?

For people with money the tax rate in California is something like 63%
Many California residents are leaving the state, and I'M sure we will see more leaving the country
I like Tina, she has more than payed her dues,
    I wish the best

Switzerland has the #1 highest standard of living in the world. It has the best education system and the best doctors. The US is rated #16 now. There's nothing wrong with Tina moving. People are fleeing California for the same reasons…..taxes too high and a government that wastes money.

If anyone thinks we should give any amount to taxes just because politicians want it then you might as well go back to an absolute monarchy. We should be expecting that our government cuts waste and lives within it's means. Otherwise we will be a nation of slaves.

Apparently many here are uninformed about the rest of the world. Switzerland is the best place to live in the world right now. They have the strongest economy. They have a high degree of family values, and good health due to their natural foods and good medicine. Their education system is the best too. Swiss Peopler are still old fashioned and polite. It's a beautiful country.

If Tina Turner wants to give up her U.S. citzenship I think it stinks to high heaven. She should stay in Switzerland and never come back to States at all. She is only doing it for tax reasons. It is my belief that if she does not want to pay taxes in the States she should not make any money in America either. She has earned most of her money in the U.S. She wants to keep more of her money that she made in America, so be it. But she should not expect to earn more money in America. I think it is low down and sneaky. I will never listen to anymone Tina Tuirner music and I certainly will not buy anything put out by her. I intend to tell everybody I know about this sneaky move and I know they will agree me me that Tina Turner sucks

COMMENTS ON AGAIN,,,Subway Gets Sued AGAIN For Fake Footlongs!" you are oh so full of shit. Every one of the frivolous lawsuits will be thrown out. no one give a shit about a half an inch short on a loaf of bread.

  17. 17

She's lived there for so many years it is her home. She deserves the best.

  18. 18

I think this move stinks. She is only doing it for tax reasons. If she wants to give up her U.S. citzenship then so be it. I do not believe she should ever expect to earn money in the U.S. again. I know, of course, she will continue to make money off us Americans. I for one will never listen to her music again or watch any televison show she might be on ever again. I certainly will not spend my American dollars on any of her products. I have already put all my Tina Turner CD's in the trash. In fact, I don't believe she should be allowed in the United States ever again. You may think I am being harsh but this woman is not an American Patriot. Our American dollars are coveted by her but not our citzenship. She has made most of her money off Americans and now, suddenly we are not good enough for her? Give me a break. What a whinner.

US one of few countries to tax its citizens on income earned while abroad. I can't say I blame her because she's lived there since the nineties.

Put a little perspective in your reasons for hating her, some of you people. She's in her 70s. Most people are retired at that age. Who knows how many years she has left, so why not live out the rest of her years in a place that she's been living already for so many years? She probably may never tour or record again, or even return to the US. Having Swiss citizenship may alleviate some of the government bureaucracy she faces while living there. It has nothing to do with hating the US.

Actually, she lived in Switzerland for 20 years and before that she lived in Germany for a long time.

    Re: lynnekab
Switzerland can be seen as a tax haven to some. But, in fact, you have no way of calculating what the savings are for Ms. Turner unless you know 1. what state in the U.S. in has been her legal residence and 2. which canton in Switzerland will become her legal residence. Just as people in different states pay different taxes here, in Switzerland people can pay vastly different taxes from canton to canton. Furthermore, as a resident alien in Switzerland, Ms. Turner has been paying taxes there, as well as in the U.S., throughout her residency. She certainly is subject to Swiss property taxes for homes she owns there and she may also be paying income tax on top of taxes she pays the U.S. for her earnings. It's most probable that she is dropping her citizenship to stop paying taxes on top of taxes. It's also probable that she has earned more of her money in Europe in recent years more than here. And, just for the record, tax revenues as a percentage of GDP are almost identical in Switzerland and the U.S.

Re: Kathie – Maybe you don't know how the taxation of Americans works. Unlike any other citizens in the world, Americans pay taxes in both the US AND the country in which they live (double taxation). Also unlike any other country, the US punishes and treats like criminals its citizens who choose to live outside the US. Maybe she doesn't think she should pay for Obama care and be under constant financial surveillance for the rest of her remaining life.
