Horrific Nightclub Fire In Brazil Takes The Lives Of 245 People.

We cannot even begin to express our heartache over this.

The Brazilian city of Santa Maria was home to an unspeakable tragedy last night, when a fire broke out in the Boate Kiss nightclub around 2:00 in the morning and took the lives of at least 245 people, many of whom were college students.

According to reports, the blaze is thought to be related to a pyrotechnics show going on at the time, as the acoustic insulation inside of the building caught first. The majority of people who lost their lives either died from smoke inhalation or were trampled to death trying to escape, as the club is known to hold up to 3,000 people on the weekends and there were no visible exit signs.

The President of Brazil, Dilma Roussef, has left a summit she was attending in Chile to be with the people of Santa Maria, and says in a statement:

"The Brazilian people are the ones who need me today. I want to tell the people of Santa Maria in this time of sadness that we are all together."

And we, here in the United States, uphold that sentiment.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, and loved ones of those who were lost, as well as those who endured the terror of the blaze and now must struggle to understand what happened and come to grips with surviving such an unspeakable trauma.

We are all together with you.

How come the 12-Step religious AA/NA cult's "HIGHER POWER" didn't save all of these ALCOHOLICS & DRUG ADDICTS?

It is a REAL "HIGHER POWER" isn't it?

Actually, there were many exits that people knew of. The guards however were told to shut the doors so people wouldn't run out without paying…

Re: thebigboot – You are so stupid!! The place was not over packed, but they had other problems as well. And when a tragedy happens to your shitty country, the Brazilians uphold that sentiment to you guys. Now live your stupid and meaningless life! Screw you!

I am Brazilian and you have no idea of the enormous sadness that is in the whole country, Brazil is in a huge silence, there are some who find grace in what happened, but most without even knowing mourns those who lost their lives. They were young people who had a life ahead of them, were young they were in college, they were young as well as any day a dream, but it got lost in this sad tragedy. So if you do not know what happened, not the sadness of saba families do not say anything, the only thing I ask is to pray for the families who lost loved ones.

As sad as it was, I really can't blame the guards , they didn't open the door at first cause they thought there was a fight going on and people were trying to take a vantage and leave the club without paying. I really believe that in their minds , they were only doing their jobs. Once they realized people were telling the truth about the fire, not only they openned the door immediatially , but also helped getting people out , and breaking the walls from the outside. Its all over the news, just gotta read it before making stupid comments. #PrayforSantaMaria

‘NULL VOTE IN THE NEXT 236 YEARS’ – ‘each year for each soul wasted’. A challenge suggested by ‘Tubarc’ a PhD scientist thrown in the trash in a similar way like those college students. For justice we need to make Brazil the country of NULL VOTE so the international community understand our suffering, disappointment, and regret about the government we have. The vote is mandatory, so we intend to cancel our votes to show we reject a fake, expensive, inefficient, and corrupt democracy that constantly fail management on public affairs that hurts in the core our human dignity. It is launched this challenge to make SANTA MARIA and KISS NIGHTCLUB the center of change in Brazil revealing our creativity and resolve to make ends meet. If we are so talented on soccer, samba, and carnival, together we can be also the democratic country of NULL VOTE. We need to use this tragedy honoring those erased so vainly as a power for changes and making it happen for the good of us all.
