Alicia Keys Kicks Off The Super Bowl Right!

| Filed under: Music MinuteZportzAlicia KeysFootballSuper Bowl

No, she isn't the new special teams star of the San Francisco 49ers!

Alicia Keys kicked off Super Bowl XLVII with a stirring rendition of the National Anthem!

Ch-ch-check out the video (above) to see the Girl On Fire light some 4th of July fireworks with nothing but her voice!

We wonder if she's related to Francis Scott Key! She must be the way she sang this one!

On the positive side - she didn't change the melody too much. On the negative side - why so slow? Stirring? Hardly - more like down right depressing. Was she going so slow to keep herself on camera longer? Why can't they get someone who will just sing the song and not make it about themselves?

Funeral dirge tempo. I'm also tired of stretching one note into 50. Just sing without the drama. What are you hiding with the yodeling?

Sarah. if you, thought Bonnie`s st0rry is surprising… last tuesday I bought a top of the range Renault 5 since getting a check for $6550 this last five weeks and just over ten-grand lass-month. without a doubt it is the most rewarding Ive had. I started this 5 months ago and practically straight away began to bring in over $87, per hour. I follow the details here, goo.gl/rHs3v

damn, I thought it would never end.

I'm glad she sang live but I could've done 3 loads of laundry by the time she finally finished. Why can't anyone just sing the song on the tempo and on the notes as it was written? Some songs are meant to be made "the artist's own" but the national anthem isn't one of them.

Alicia sucked ass. She's horrible. Jennifer Hudson is a goddess compared to Alicia. I was disgusted. Perez Hilton is so fucking biased and off the mark on vocal ability. I bet he'll say Beowulf was awesome too. Perez knows shit.

Are you kidding? It was the most depressing rendition I ever heard. It was certainly the longest. She wanted as much TV time as possible. She even added an extra ending.

Re: rosebud99 – Go to youtbe& search for "the simpsons national anthem". It's very funny & relevant to Alicia's performance.

I am a strong believer that when someone sings the National Anthem, they should be standing tall and proud. They should not be sitting at a piano and screaming it!

I love her. She did it right with all her heart and very beautifully. It was slow but probably to suit her voice and build up to the higher notes. I don't think she was trying to get more air time. That is just silly. It also suited the true meaning of the song to be sung slowly and with remembrance of the brave men who fought for our country. Alicia was very respectful with her performance and the added few words only made the meaning of the song even stronger. The performance was very appreciated. She is a true artist.

Kind of underwhelming. Did somebody tell her to do it like 'normal' people? It sure didn't have the passion that she put into "New York".

She didn't do too much to change it, except for the ending which seemed to never come. Even the players gave up and went about their business…LOL WAY TOO SLOW. I agree that the artists singing the SSB at these events, should stick with the original melody and not drag it out . This was so-o-o-o slo-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-w….yawn! All that being said I do like Alicia Keys as a performer…just not in this particular performance today…LOL

okay..okay Alicia we get it you can play the piano, but this was just so… soo… sooooooooooo slow! I think had she ditch the damn piano it would've went a bit quicker.

  16. 16

Too slow, wasnt feeling it. Love Alicia but this was not good

  17. 17

    Better than Bey's performance….

Don't think I've ever heard it sung that slow with some interesting off key slides thrown in. I LOVE the way Whitney Houston sang it in 1991. No one has ever topped that.

Re: Leslie – You know that Whitney lip-synched that performance, right? Still great the way she sang it, but FYI that it wasn't live.

It was okay. Could have been a little faster. I just don't understand why she had to add words to the end. The National Anthem is a song that should be sung the way it was written. No need for everyone to add things and switch it up so much. Just sing the song.

  26. 26

She sang in a key that was so obviously WAY to high for her, she strained to hit all the notes. She also said "Banner yet WAY" instead of WAVE. Who gave her permission to re-write the end of the song? FAIL

WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWW. Really? How long does it take to sing this song anyway? It was almost painfully slow. My kids were screaming at the tv, "hurry up, come on," even the 6 year knew it was really bad…No more people taking this song and messing it up! I am sick of all the "renditions." Just sing it as written… When can we get a tenor male up there next time? Talk about non-inspirational rendition…. snooooooozeeeeee
