Alicia Keys Called 'Disrespectful' For SITTING During SUPER Star-Spangled Banner Rendition!

Ugh! This really chafes our chode!

At least one TV producer wasn't happy with Alicia Keys' absolutely amazeballz rendition of our national anthem before last night's big game!

In fact, her or she went so far as to call Alicia's performance "disrespectful"!

What?! Seriously?!

Was the talented songstress off key? Or out of tune? Did she mangle the lyrics? Did she drape herself in the flag of Soviet Russia?!

No! She was a Girl on Fire — her classic kick-off to Super Bowl XLVII was FLAWLESS!

So what was the problem!?

Well, one TV producer said:

"It was disrespectful. They had enough time and manpower to think of this before the performance. They could have had her stand at her piano keyboard and sing. To me and a lot of my friends, she sounded great but the visual was wrong."

As much as we hate to disagree with an unnamed industry source and his or her friends, THAT'S JUST CRAY!

Alicia was brilliant!

One of her publicists put it best. They said:

"Alicia is a proud American and was honored to perform at the event. Her slow version of The Star-Spangled Banner was her own arrangement, accompanying herself on the piano, adding 'living in the home of the brave' at the end of the song. It's silly to see how that was being disrespectful."

We agree one billion percent!

Keep on doing what you do, gurl!

Seated or standing, America loves you!!

    Dear Superbowl Producer,

What was really disrespectful was your choice of horrible commercials. Alicia did an amazing job, it was sooo heartfelt. By the way it was great to see such strong black women at the front line of this sporting event!! #Beyonce/Alicia/JenniferHud WINNING!

  2. 2

I found it disrespectful that they couldn't even use an Amercian made Piano for Alicia to sing the Star Spangled Banner.

Look at that WOMAN - could she make America any more PROUD?
    STUNNING!

  4. 4

god there are some sick fucks out there PEOPLE SIT TO PLAY THE PIANO no wonder america is going to hell … ALICIA is amazing and has actual talent

The commercials were violent and psychotic. Seriously, Oreo cookie commercial tearing up a library? Like we really need to see that.

I love her but what she did was really disrespectful. We were taught while growing up to stand in attention and sing the national anthem with pride, love and respect. What she was doing was trying to put up a show instead of singing the song the way it was suppose to be sang. Beyonce fucked it up now her……

  7. 7

The worst part was the speed. It was like a funeral march instead of a rousing song of patriotism. She was ok, but there is nothing that beats the sound of the anthem sung by a group. I hope they get a choir next time instead of spotlighting a celebrity.

  8. 8

What Tv Producer? Have a name? I mean c'mon if it was REALLY said by a TV producer your not in the business of protecting people name her. Does Alicia have an album or something coming out to promote? ??? I have no idea, but it smells like that.

  9. 9

Wow. I thought that short of a cut was strictly for lesbians. Lookin' good …

  10. 10

REALLY … Let me guess … the producer is an OLD WHITE FART. She plays the piano not a guitar. Again someone proves that C.F.S (CAN'T FIX STUPID) truly lives everywhere.

  11. hmmmmmmm says – reply to this

    11

so, wait… that ghetto bitch beyonce can LIP SYNC the anthem IN FRONT OF THE PRESIDENT and everyone calls her noble for admitting it, but alicia keys sings it live and with pride, and SHE'S the one who's disrespectful? bullshit.

  12. cam says – reply to this

    12

I am so sick of artists taking liberty with our National Anthem. It was written a specific way and should be sung that way. I am sure that God Save the Queen (King) is not altered every time it is sung at an event in the UK and the same with Oh, Canada. Why do singers feel the need to put their stamp on the National Anthem. And ABSOLUTELY YES SHE WAS DISRESPECTFUL by sitting through the anthem. IF not military personnel, You stand when it is sang, remove any head covering and should place your over your heart. PERIOD.

  13. tacogirl says – reply to this

    13

Who Cares if she's sitting or standing?….But her rendition was slow and very Heavy-handed for the superbowl. Just awful, to me at least. OH………say……..can……..you…….see………..
    Just sing it already.

  14. Hannah says – reply to this

    14

America does its anthem wrong everytime its 'performed' by a celebrity. No one can sing along, because they change the pace to be 'new and fresh', they add words (to an anthem?? What?!?) and they warble on and on trying to show off how long they can hold a note. Take the cue of other countries who actually allow the song to be sung together by everyone, not just one overpaid celebrity.

  15. shootingstarnz says – reply to this

    15

far from flawless, i think for someone as talented as alicia keys, she did a bad job. This isnt even my national anthem but ive heard it sung much better. It was just all over the place and too trilly- sounded like she was auditioning for AI. The american national anthem is such a durge and difficult to sing- unless its a continuous melody it just sounds off- sorry to Alicia keys, i'm a massive fan but you were off on this.

please stop pushing your opinion down everyone's throat! if you haven't been told, but you have horrible tastes & opinions. Alicia Keys's performance was drawnnnnnnnnnnnnn……. oouuuuuuuuttttttttttttt……..wwwwwaaayyyyyyyyy……. ttooooooooooooo…. llllloonnnnnngggggg! Beyonce sucked! All she did was flipping her hair up & down and singing the same line over & over! She might as well sing, "flipping my hair, flipping my hair, flipping my hair… ooooo, flipping my hair, flipping my hair, flipping my hair…. oooooo!"

  19. 19

    Oh please….

  20. 20

Was probably Lush Limbaugh spreading more hatred. After all, he stands at attention when pain killers are mentioned.

  21. 21

Re: Hannah – I totally agree.

  22. Jess says – reply to this

    22

It's common sense for you to always stand when the star spangled banner is being played or sung by someone. I think they are overreacting about it but Alicia was probably just trying to impress everyone that she can play the piano. The performance would have been more meaningful and powerful if she would have stood up to sing.

  23. Anita says – reply to this

    23

Good Lord please help the ignorant people who are just totally clueless. Alicia was not being disredpectful. I don't understand why people have to look for any or every little thing to complain or criticize about when it comes to something like this. This was one of the most touching performances of the National Anthem I have withessed. Alicia looked calm and relaxed and sang from her heart so beautifully. Why can't people just appreciate that? Btw, Billy Joel did not stand either and I'm pretty sure he didn't get any of this kind of criticism. I thought the piano was a very nice touch and her sitting at the piano had nothing to do with being disrespectful. It just had to do with her playing it beautifully for us all to enjoy.

  24. Anita says – reply to this

    24

Re: kirai1 – Well I guess we were taught that unless we are playing the piano which most people do usually sit at. Some things don't have to be taught. It's just common sense. So much ignorance.

  25. 25

Umm what!?!? Who stands and plays a piano? Anyone who plays the piano during the National Anthem would sit. What a moron!

  26. victoria says – reply to this

    26

Americans are actually psychotic. What else did she need? An Eagle tattoo? A star-spangled piano? French Fry keys? Pipe down people. Ridiculous.

  27. 27

I can't stand when singers try to make the anthem ”their own”. She sang it way too slowly!

  28. 28

People are always finding something to complain about. She could have been standing and people would still complain about something. Get over it, it's not like she burned the flag and said "fuck America." Quit getting pissed about every little thing in the universe.

  29. Nick says – reply to this

    29

Silly stories such as this make Americans look like a bunch of whiny babies. Not my favorite version of the song by far but calling it disresptful is just plain out stupid and embarrassing. Shift the focus to issues that actually matter, please.

  30. 30

Re: sick_girlRe: bobcatRe: misscheriamorRe: Nick – Amen! Wish the media would stop paying crybaby attention seekers any attention.

    32

Re: AnitaRe: Anita – And where we not taught to stand up for the national anthem. Why can't she just sing and not play the piano. like what I said it's not about the respect for the national anthem, it's about her putting a show. I think you should go back to school for nothing seems to have registered in youre brain and it just show how ignorant and stupid you are.

I'd love to see what she would do with the NationL Anthem "Money is the Anthem of Success, so before we go out what's your address? … Tell me I'm your National Anthem Chica-chicka-bow-wow take my body down town" that's how Lana Del Rey would do it, before starring in a commercial for Pepsi-Cola HA!

  38. Anita says – reply to this

    38

Re: kirai1 – I guess I have to say it again. Some things don't have to be taught, they are just common sense meaning they are understood, like sitting while playing the piano. She would have looked pretty stupid standing. Anyway, evidently she didn't want to just stand and sing. Who knows why. Maybe she felt more comfortable singing at the piano for so many people. It was her arrangement and with HER arrangement, at least no one could say she copied them. She did it and she can arrange it however she wants. No, there was no disrespect. Have you not heard there are exceptions to every rule, like sitting to play a piano, which is really just common sense, or I guess you'd probably expect even disabled people to stand. Common sense again. You know some of the people didn't even have their hand on their heart, how horrible that was. Oh yes, and some people didn't even look at the flag. You should really just find all the little wrongs people did and have a field day. Don't stop with Alicia. As for what I learned in school, that was a pretty stupid remark and has nothing to do with this conversation and how I feel about Alicia NOT being disrespectful.

I hate all of those "politically correct" people.

  49. 49

You can't please all of the people all of the time. The people that are complaining about the speed of her delivery, the fact that she was sitting or that she somehow "changed" the song would complain about anything. She's an amazing artist and she did an outstanding job! I would like to see some of them get on that kind of stage in front of that many people and do the same flawless job that she did!

  50. 50

It kind of is disrespectful to alter the national anthem unless by request. Additionally I thought some of her notes were sour. She is way over rated and not at all who they sold to the public years ago.

  52. JNYC says – reply to this

    52

USA is the only country in the world where people can do as they wish with its national anthem, and where people screams and claps after it's finished. A national
Anthem is something of repeat and patriotism. Here, they treat it as a pop song… In my country Dominican Republic, you would go to jail for doing this, or clapping after the anthem.
Not to mention, they would shot down your TV shows.

  53. 53

I don't care for her rendition of the star spangled banner. Hate it.

  54. 54

Re: BecauseIcan – I think that might be because most people don't care for the spectrum of artists available commercially because they are all kind of one note. They do so much copying correcting and air brushing that it's anti climactic when you see them.

Now THAT was a mess and she wasn't even attempting to sing live.
