Alicia Keys Called 'Disrespectful' For SITTING During SUPER Star-Spangled Banner Rendition!
Ugh! This really chafes our chode!
At least one TV producer wasn't happy with Alicia Keys' absolutely amazeballz rendition of our national anthem before last night's big game!
In fact, her or she went so far as to call Alicia's performance "disrespectful"!
What?! Seriously?!
Was the talented songstress off key? Or out of tune? Did she mangle the lyrics? Did she drape herself in the flag of Soviet Russia?!
No! She was a Girl on Fire — her classic kick-off to Super Bowl XLVII was FLAWLESS!
So what was the problem!?
"It was disrespectful. They had enough time and manpower to think of this before the performance. They could have had her stand at her piano keyboard and sing. To me and a lot of my friends, she sounded great but the visual was wrong."
As much as we hate to disagree with an unnamed industry source and his or her friends, THAT'S JUST CRAY!
Alicia was brilliant!
One of her publicists put it best. They said:
"Alicia is a proud American and was honored to perform at the event. Her slow version of The Star-Spangled Banner was her own arrangement, accompanying herself on the piano, adding 'living in the home of the brave' at the end of the song. It's silly to see how that was being disrespectful."

I love her but what she did was really disrespectful. We were taught while growing up to stand in attention and sing the national anthem with pride, love and respect. What she was doing was trying to put up a show instead of singing the song the way it was suppose to be sang. Beyonce fucked it up now her……
The worst part was the speed. It was like a funeral march instead of a rousing song of patriotism. She was ok, but there is nothing that beats the sound of the anthem sung by a group. I hope they get a choir next time instead of spotlighting a celebrity.

I am so sick of artists taking liberty with our National Anthem. It was written a specific way and should be sung that way. I am sure that God Save the Queen (King) is not altered every time it is sung at an event in the UK and the same with Oh, Canada. Why do singers feel the need to put their stamp on the National Anthem. And ABSOLUTELY YES SHE WAS DISRESPECTFUL by sitting through the anthem. IF not military personnel, You stand when it is sang, remove any head covering and should place your over your heart. PERIOD.

America does its anthem wrong everytime its 'performed' by a celebrity. No one can sing along, because they change the pace to be 'new and fresh', they add words (to an anthem?? What?!?) and they warble on and on trying to show off how long they can hold a note. Take the cue of other countries who actually allow the song to be sung together by everyone, not just one overpaid celebrity.
far from flawless, i think for someone as talented as alicia keys, she did a bad job. This isnt even my national anthem but ive heard it sung much better. It was just all over the place and too trilly- sounded like she was auditioning for AI. The american national anthem is such a durge and difficult to sing- unless its a continuous melody it just sounds off- sorry to Alicia keys, i'm a massive fan but you were off on this.

It's common sense for you to always stand when the star spangled banner is being played or sung by someone. I think they are overreacting about it but Alicia was probably just trying to impress everyone that she can play the piano. The performance would have been more meaningful and powerful if she would have stood up to sing.

This was one of the most touching performances of the National Anthem I have withessed. Alicia looked calm and relaxed and sang from her heart so beautifully. Why can't people just appreciate that? I thought the piano was a very nice touch and her sitting at the piano had nothing to do with being disrespectful. It just had to do with her playing it beautifully for us all to enjoy.

You can't please all of the people all of the time. The people that are complaining about the speed of her delivery, the fact that she was sitting or that she somehow "changed" the song would complain about anything.
