The last of the Andrew Sisters died last week. I guess since the group wasn't coked up they weren't good enough to be honored.
Re: thebigboot – I'm sorry, but Whitney Houstan was far bigger than the Andrew Sisters. Although any death is sad.
-
And why can't they get any DECENT singers to pay tribute to whitney?!?!?!?!?!?!!? Celine and Mariah should be in this tribute. Them three were (and still are) the three pioneering power house divas.
I'm pleased to see Whitney will be remembered, I was pretty shocked last year when so little was said about her passing when she had just died so tragically.
Whitney Houston was a huge star. She deserves proper recognition, and I hope this is a very large recognition of her and her contributions to music. She died of a terrible disease called "addiction". She did struggle and try to overcome her disease. Perhaps she should've avoided the Grammys and pre-parties that offered temptations. Hers is a cautionary tale in some ways. Nevertheless, her death was a tragedy.
Anyone who puts her down because she suffered from an addiction is uneducated and ignorant. Her death is a warning to people who mess around with drugs, they should know that addiction can grab hold of anyone.
I'm glad to see Whitney, that lady of so much talent, will get the recognition that she deserves
Re: Calvin – You're an idiot. The Andrew Sisters were huge, you know performed with Irving Berlin… Carmen Miranda… but I guess they're too old for you to realize how big they were.
Re: Bravo bravissimo – She has already been honored by many singers. Its time to let it go. She was a drug addicted singer who never even wrote any of her own music. Its not like she was a legend like Dolly Parton or Celine Dion. Her death was her own dumb ass fault. Nobody elses but hers. She pretty much committed suicide.
Re: Crissy – Crissy, Whitney Houston IS a legend. You might go to wikipedia if you'd like to learn more about her career. I think you'd understand quickly then why the music industry wants to remember her at the Grammys this year.
BTW–I do appreciate Celine Dion. And Dolly Parton is amazing! I think people know Dolly as a performer, but many don't know that she is a songwriting superpower! And I sure hope people know that it was Dolly Parton who wrote Whitney Houston's enormous hit, "I Will Always Love You"!!!! I greatly admire women such as Dolly and Taylor Swift, who write their own words and music–and Taylor is the first woman who writes her own words and music and has become an international superstar!
But I also like Whitney Houston very much, she is a legend who achieved many important "firsts" in her career, and broke all sorts of records, over 200 million albums sold etc. I think she very much deserves to be remembered at the Grammys.
I am glad they are paying a tribute to Whitney, however I will not be watching.
The Grammys have moved my favorite kinds of music (smooth jazz, country, and oldies with a bit of classical thrown in from time to time) and pushed it off to the side, kind of like the Oscars do with their technical awards, sorry I would rather hear my kind of music than a bunch of rap of something which I hate.
Why Taylor Swift??? There are lot more other respectable singers that should have been given the opportunity to do this… Taylor might make it all about her again…
These tributes they do at these music award shows are rarely about the so-called honoree and more about showcasing the latest flavor of the month. If they were truly interested in honoring the person, it would be so easy to get the appropriate singers to pay homage. You can see it on the faces of the living legends honored, when their facial expression seems to be saying 'WHAT are they doing to my song?!!!". BTW, Whitney hasn't been gone for a year yet - when they stop honoring and celebrating Elvis, we'll stop…well, no we won't!
LONG LIVE the MUSICAL LEGACY of WHITNEY ELIZABETH HOUSTON!!!
Re: 4EVAWhitney – Well said!
