Denver Murder-Suicide: Mother Shoots Three Children, 3-Year-Old Girl Survives

The world is turning into a place we hardly recognize.

It pains our heart to report 23-year-old Mayra Perez shot her three children before killing herself this morning in Denver.

The only survivor is 3-year-old Isabelle, who is currently undergoing surgery at Denver Health Hospital.

Isabelle's siblings, 6-year-old Neveah and 1-year-old Eric, were both killed at the scene.

We aren't sure what could compel a mother to murder her own kids, but this is an absolutely crushing tragedy.

Jose Rojas, a local church pastor is tired of all the violence.

He said:

"Basically, we pray for the community. This is the horror of the whole country. There are all these shootings. I think it's too much, too much to see innocent people being killed."

Jose is 100% correct.

There are too many shootings. Too many innocents are dying violent deaths.

Hopefully these deadly weapons will soon be stripped from the hands of anyone unstable enough to commit murder.

Our hearts go out to all the victims, may the deceased little ones rest in peace.

Get rid of guns…period. And, what is it with Colorado and all these crazeeeee shottings ? ?

  2. 2

There are 300 million guns in the U.S. We live in a gun culture. This needs to change. It is so sad. The fewer guns; the fewer homicides. Of course, the NRA says no regulations, no back ground checks, no ban on assault weapons and no ban on high capicity ammunition. The 15th Amendment is not more important than all of these lives. These lives are more important. Our local governement needs to do more weapony buy back and turn the metal into park benches and get the guns out of the wrong hands. Our congress needs to be pressured into passing tougher laws!

Not sure in this case (for once) it would have made much if any difference, she would of just OD'd her children and her self in her home instead and none of them might of survived.

Re: lala – I agree. I am all for certain gun control measures, but this case is more like the one where the woman drowned her kids in the bathtub. Might be a case of and overwhelmed young woman with a severe untreated post-natal depression.

It was the mother who killed her children, not the gun. A few years ago, a father down the street, left the gas burners on all night and sealed all the doors. He shot himself and let his children suffocate to death. People will always find away to kill. 9/11 and the Oklahoma city bombings have proved that. I am not for more guns or less guns. We have to accept the fact that our world isn't going to change no matter what gun laws Congress passes. This isn't the fault of the gun, NRA or our leaders, this is the fault of the estranged mother who committed the crime. Everyone should do themselves a favor and purchase a weapon of your choice (bat, gun, hammer or nice) and use it for home self defense and be responsible with it. SHootings happen everyday (most of them by HANDGUNS and not semi-automatic weapons). but the media does an excellent job pushing the story for RATINGS and Propganda. May God be with us all.

Its not the world is 'turning' as you say…. its that crimes such as they are more 'hot tickets' for the media. Look at this countries history of gun violence, and you will see that for yearrrrssss our gun death rate usually falls between 29-32k yearly. Its just that now with how popular social media is, combined with the fact of a few dominant mass murders (which have happened for years) that everyone is on HIGH alert for these type of sad stories. Its a very tragic thing, but lets not go overboard and pretend its something new to us.

I have not seen one news report that said this mother killed her children and then herself. The last article I read, a neighbor reported a truck speeding away from the home. Not sure where Perez Hilton got his info.

Re: Deanna13 – Exactly. Perez is just part of the bandwagon media effect.
He needs to stick with copying and pasting celebrity stories.

"Nevaeh" - "Heaven" spelled backward. (3rd child I've heard of with this name.) How sick that a girl named after religion's perfect place had a mother straight out of HELL.

STOP BLAMING THIS ON GUNS. Do you people really think that if that mentally sick, psychopathic mother didn't have a gun she wouldn't have killed her children? She would have stabbed, drowned, suffocated, etc. etc., the list goes on an on. Evil and/or sick people exist everywhere, and they will find away to do what it is they want to do. Instead of focusing on guns as if they are shooting themselves, focus on the PEOPLE who need severe mental help!

(Also, just because someone doesn't have a gun, doesn't mean they can't commit a mass murder. They'd make themselves a bomb. They'd FIND a weapon. And making guns illegal will NOT STOP CRIMINALS FROM GETTING THEM. Just like making cocaine illegal does not stop coke heads from doping up. The difference here is that having no way to defend yourself against criminals will leave the GOOD, LAW ABIDING PEOPLE in trouble. How many women in this past year have shot armed and dangerous home invaders before they could attack them or their children?! GO LOOK IT UP!

idontbelieveyou — The 15th amendment….You don't have the first clue as to what the 15th amendment to the US Constitution, do you? Unless you meant giving black men the right to vote "…isn't more important than all these lives". I don't even know where to begin. The 2nd amendment is the right to bear arms. Yes, our Constitutional rights are worth "all these lives". Freedom, which YOU enjoy comes at a cost which was paid by every person who has ever given their life in defense of this great nation. Freedom isn't a guarantee that last forever. It is always just one generation from being gone from this earth. All it takes for a tyrant to rule, is good men doing nothing. Hitler didn't happen overnight. He was a "community organizer" that over time, people came to believe was the savior of Germany. Many newspapers in the US thought he was just what Europe needed, the New York Times was one of them. He outlawed guns, took away freedoms, and demanded a better standard of living for the German middle class. The majority of German people came to believe he was the greatest leader in the world.

OK it appears this mother had again some sort of mental illness - the highest numbers of deaths attributed to guns are suicides and closely behind those who have mental illness who have a mental breakdown - they need help as the gov't should be giving more money to help mental illness rather than shaming it under the wrong - if u can't get rid of the guns then help the other issue.

Maybe it isn't all that relevant but does anybody think that all the recent publicity surrounding events such as these might help in pushing already unstable people over the edge? I'm not saying to not publicize such stories, but I feel like maybe we should begin to accompany this type of media with listings of where these people could get some help. It doesn't have to be a big thing, but if at the end of each news post like this there was a helpline or something then maybe we could start tackling this problem at the root.

Re: jess – Agree that commercials for help are good and also if a doctor is aware an individual is having mental illness, owns a gun and could potentially do harm to themselves or others then I say they take away the gun until they are deemed better - there should be a gun registry that requires sign off from the doctor the first time and is tied into a central database that if they are having mental illness and require support the gun is removed until they are ok again - all the guns!

  20. 20

My guess is that she was on psych meds, which will probably be left out of the official report as it has been with most of the shootings (don't believe me - check independent news sites). Wise up people, guns don't kill people (although I'm against any kind of weapon), Big Pharma makes people kill people! If it hadn't been a gun, it would have been some other tool…

  21. 21

In Canada, you can't buy much more then a hunting rifle. I'm sure maybe you can somewhere, but its not in your face. We watch the same tv, play the same games and have the same mental illness..the health care is free, so its not as good because whether you are poor or rich everyone recieves the same level of care. How come then we don't have the same murder sprees as the states does? I get we have less people, but still…why do americans think they need guns? You call it freedom?? Really?? What is freedom? From what I gather, America lives in fear from the media. I may be wrong..I'm not American, I just go based on what I watch on the American news..

Get rid of guns, period. The U.S is the MOST violent nation on earth….gee, I wonder WHY ? ? Guns Kill !

  26. 26

Re: Be-Atch – You're an idiot. They were kids, and it was their mother. She could have used any damn weapon possible and would have successfully killed them. Of course morons like you are going to blame a gun. A mother killed her child..I highly doubt a gun is even remotely relevant, she could have just as easily stabbed them all to death.

Re: zaida bird – Too many varibles, the majority of our gun crime comes from dominantly black ghettos/projects. Realistically taking gang violence out of the equation we have 3,000 gun deaths a year..in a country with 311 million people, 250+ million firearms and 90+ million armed citizens. Gun violence isn't out of control. More people get behind the wheel of a car while drunk and kill innocent people than guns do. A child is a 1,000 times more likely to die from drowning, poisoning, falls and cars combined than a gun.
