Fans, friends … we're getting a little nervous. This season of The Vampire Diaries has been STUPENDOUS thus far, but we have a feeling that we're headed into territory that could have us riddled in agony for WEEKS!
For starters, all we keep hearing around the rumor mill is that something "explosive" is about to happen on the show. We've heard whispers of the next two episodes being crucial and chaotic, with the balance shifting forever in the world of Mystic Falls.
Okay, fine. We were still okay. Sure, they might do something drastic, but they would never do anything to hurt our beloved Ian Somerhalder.

WOULD YOU JUST LOOK AT THIS POSTER! Newly released, this shot is to tease the back end of our favorite vampy tale … and we can't say we're too pleased at the imagery. Why, OH why is there a noose around Smolderhalder's neck? Is something happening to Damon? Is he being killed off the show? Ten bucks says it'll be because of ELENA! GAWD! NO! WE CAN'T DEAL!
You know what? We don't know why this poster is the way it is, but we're choosing to think positively.
Yeah, maybe Damon is getting in touch with his s&m side! Maybe, someone is just prepping for that 50 Shades Of Grey movie we all want him to star in. Yeah, that's it. Think beautiful, sensual, sexy bondage thoughts. No ones dying. Techincally, he's already dead — so what does it matter!
Also, there's a "he's also pretty hung" joke to be made here, but we're still too on edge to make it.

I will literally stop watching the show.
I have this theory that the whole "cure" thing will end up having some crazy stipulation that will prevent everyone taking it. Therefore, Elena will stay a vampire. But Damon dies this season and this breaks her from her sire bond… Elena realizes that she is still in fact in love with Damon and they seek out Silas so they can bring him back from the dead. Damon dying is definitely a big enough shock that it would create this much of a buzz (e.g. all the rumors going around). They need to 1-up last season.
Some people might argue, "why not Stefan? What if Stefan is the one that dies…"
i don't see it, personally. Despite being a "villain", Damon is constantly sacrificing himself for his brother and Elena. I think it will come down to him or them and he'll make the gut-wrenching choice because his that freaking awesome…
i will just cry forever if damon dies.
I do agree with maruluna's comment though. Damon dying and being brought back to life by silas will make a great season. However i rather it just not happen and damon lives. =]

Ian tweeted today that he was eating lunch in between takes for the vampire diaries, so I highly doubt he will die. Maybe there will be a new type of supernatural thing or something or maybe Jeremy dies (which I really don't want to happen) that would definitely change Elena at least, she could become the ripper like Stefan was that would be different than her usual whiny always crying self.

' give him enough rope…"If someone is doing wrong or behaving badly, sometimes it's best not to interfere/intervene as eventually they will 'come-a-cropper' - left to their own devices and given enough leeway they will eventually trip themselves up, hence, given enough rope they will hang themselves. I don't think he'll die…just make some not so great decisions…
I'm pretty sure that poster is a reference to a still of episode 14 and you can find it on cwtv website where Damon is trapped in some sort of rope mechanism by some new guy we've yet to meet. But I kind of like where maruluna's idea was going… As long as he doesn't leave the show I'm fine with whatever they do to him!

Perhaps Damon temporarily dies and Silas raises him from the dead in Season 5.
In the book Elena dies as a vampire to save the brothers then comes back to life as a human

Re: lore – It's true, I read tha books and is thus: Stefan is captured and taken to the dark dimension (long story) and a bouquet of flowers made by a "fox spirit" that is the antidote to the "curse" of vampires. Damon scared of being something dangerous opened the bouquet and smelled the single black rose and it turned vampire.

In 4×13 he ties Professor Shaun with it. Hopefully he doesn't die. I mean if i got emotional with the Kloraline & Tylorine moments, imagine if Delena ceases to exist. Cue depressed wailing.

I'm all for it playing out because we know Damon isn't going to stay dead for long if it happens. OH, I would so love for it to be because our beloved Ian was going off to star in a certain movie everyone knows he's perfect for… I would be more than willing to sacrifice Damon for that.
I bet Damon takes the cure, then once hes human, he wants to be a vampire again and he drink vampire blood and kills himself.

They wouldn't permanently kill off any of the three main characters, they know that would end the show. I think what will happen is Damon will become human again.
