All 5 deaths were not suicide - check your facts. Most were accidental ODs and some natural causes. Check your facts and try writing an article again…

Celebrity rehab isn't about helping anyone - it's an entertainment show that takes advantage of people who are both addicts & who are desperate to hold on to the spotlight, nothing more. No rehab is involved. If you need help I suggest you go to an accredited facility & seek treatment from trained professionals because you are not going to get it by going on VH1.

Not sure I disagree with Marx' second comment, but it may be unfair to Dr. Drew in this case.

  4. 4

I agree with Marx that Pinsky is a useless twat exploiting the problems of others (with their cooperation, of course, but that doesn't make what he does right). Pinsky should have his license revoked and someone should punch him hard, in the face, every day for a year just because he's an asshole. Fuck you Perez.

He does have a horrible track record. The main reason is, it's a SHOW! Most of these people go into Celebrity Rehab to get paid and buy more drugs when they leave.

How about blaming mental health and drug abuse rather than those who reach out to help? Interesting people continue to blame Dr. Drew, rather than the cause.

  7. 7

Re: Jen – A quality physician would not be involved with something that makes a spectacle of serious problems. I think that the "celebs" who participate in the farce are partly to blame, but Pinsky, as a healthcare professional, should not be so willing and eager to televise these things and to do no real good for anyone involved.

So sad. I feel so bad for her children.

  9. 9

Anyone involved with rehabilitation programs know that the failure rate is high. It's not Dr. Drew's fault, it's just the facts of drug and alcohol abuse. Rehab, NA, and AA don't magically help your problem, you have to work at it too. Sad.

These people should have saught REAL help, not the help of a TV doctor who thinks he can cure everyone. I mean look at his involvement in couseling the 16&P and Teen Mom girls, how many of them have had pregnancies since the show and continue to make the same mistakes? He does these shows for the pay check not to actually help these people. I don't take a word the man says to heart because I don't trust what he is saying.

Richard Marx is an attention seeking jerk. First off, it's been YEARS since she was on the show and she's had practically no interaction with Dr. Drew since. Second, as someone who has worked in the mental health/addiction field, I can tell you that there are a lot of deaths. Going only by the people who were on his show, his death rate is much lower than others of his kind. Plus, look at all the people he has helped - there are far more of those. Depending on the people you treat, it's not uncommon to lose one or more patients a month. If people knew the reality on just how many people do die/OD/commit suicide, no one would go. These people have mental issues to begin with and still have them AFTER they deal with their addiction. It takes years and years for people to cope with them and if they aren't seeing someone, it can be dangerous for them. The fault lies only with the individual, not with the people who tried to help them.

  12. 12

Because these so-called celebs need the $ that these shows pay them, that's why they go on them. Not to find legit treatment!

  13. 13

Whether it was for ratings not, Dr. Drew still took these people away from their drugs for awhile and put them in a place where they could try to get some help. He gave them an opportunity. It is not his fault that they chose not to use it. You can be the greatest doctor in the world and if people don't want to stop using they are not going to stop using.

  14. 14

Richard Marx should go back to his mullet and shut up. Dr. Drew's track record is bad because of addiction not exploitation.

Do any of the critics here know the statistics of suicides and overdoses after treatment at one of the "real" addiction centers?

Guess what….the failure rate is quite high for the kind of addictions that are lifelong ongoing battles. You just don't hear about it on the news. By the way…Dr. drew works with trained professionals that you would find at other treatment centers. He does not do everything alone!

  16. 16

As a recovering addict, I must defend Dr. Drew. Yes, many of his celebrity clients have lost their battles with addiction. However, that is what addiction is and it takes lives. That is the fact. Dr. Drew isn't a miracle worker, but he is showing the true face of addiction. Especially when you have celebrities involved that have the resources to fund their addiction, you're going to have a higher mortality rate. I truly believe that Dr. Drew is doing much more good, than harm. It is the addiction that is killing people, not Dr. Drew. I've never seen him do ANYTHING but recommend continued treatment, treatment, and more treatment…

Re: Jenn – what you think just cause you council someone they become perfect? not his fault the teen mom girls are idiots he does what he can and that all he can do, and by the way he 's been a real doctor for long before tv

  18. Kevin says – reply to this

The people on here putting down Dr. Drew are ignorant. I spent 30 years in addiction, starting when I was 15. The success rate in recovery is less than one in ten. Most people relapse more than four times before getting clean once they begin trying.

Also, the FORMER patients of Dr. Drew's that have died were FORMER patients. If they were FORMER patients, then blaming their deaths on someone who isn't even treating them anymore is invalid.

And Richard Marx is a has been. Who cares what he says.

I just read the post by the other recovering addict Kevdog1800 defending Dr. Drew. If I'd noticed that before my first post I would have pointed out that I'm not the same person. We just happen to have the same first name and disease (addiction).

Mr Marx–Swayze contracted pancreatic cancer from dancing with Cynthia Rhodes. Thats how moronic you sound stating Pinsky's show is exploitive & his record is not good. Suicidal & addictive personalities may experience periods of hope & improvement during treatment, but on their own they often regress. A principal similar to why has-been recording artists from the 80's, whose songs no one can remember, crave attention they're no longer getting. Mr Marx kindly seek fulfillment outside of the spotlight & definitely outside of social media. When you don't, the rest of us cringe for you.

MIGHT be a bit harsh?! Take a look at the statistics of people (not just famous people) who die of addiction - either to suicide or overdoses! F*ck I'm angry right now!!
And do some research - Coonoway died of pnemonie among other things - NOT SUICIDE! King died of ACCIDENTAL drowning while on pot, booze and cocaine - NOT SUICIDE! Kovar died of aan accidental overdose - NOT SUICIDE! And Mike Starr died of an accidental overdose of perscription drugs - NOT F*CKING SUICIDE!!! McCready is the only one out of these five that commited suicide!!

And before people judge Dr Drew you should actually watch a whole season of Celebrity Rehab and listen to what he has to say about addiction and how low the success-rate of rehab ALLWAYS is!

And to my knowledge no one FORCED anyone to be on that show, and some of the people who was on are actually still sober because of it!
If you can treat physical illnesses like cancer on television then why can't they show how they treat patients with the disease of addiction? To spread the information about the horrors of drug abuse?

I'm sorry if there are typos or misspellings in this post, English isn't my forst language - plus I am seriously pissed off right now!

Oh and I usually don't stoop to this childish level but I can't help myself - FUCK YOU RICHARD MARX!!!

I'm listening to a podcast with Dr. Drew on it right this minute, and celebrity after celebrity are calling in and giving him thanks for what he's done for them. That says it all, to me.
