The Academy Awards ARE No More! The Oscars Officially Changes Its Name!

We haven't called the Oscars "the Academy Awards" in a looonngggg time, but the most prestigious awards show of the season has now officially changed its name!
Just four days before funny man Seth MacFarlane takes over the Dolby Theater, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has decided to rebrand and break away from the expected, traditional title.
Co-producer Neil Meron explained:
"We're not calling it 'the 85th annual Academy Awards,' which keeps it mired somewhat in a musty way. It's called 'The Oscars.'"
After 85 years, we don't blame them for switching it up a bit!
However, that doesn't mean changing back to the old moniker isn't a possibility in years to come.
Academy spokeswoman Teni Melidonian said:
"[It's] right for this show, but we could easily go back to using ‘Academy Awards' next year."
That's all fine and dandy, but what we're really excited for is this year's hilarious host and some EPIC talent slated to perform some of our fave musical tunes!
Oh, and also..did we mention Adele's big comeback performance???!!
We've never been so excited for an Oscars show!!! How will we pass the hours until Sunday??

Looking forward to watching the Oscars or whatever they want to call it this Sunday. Not looking forward to the host that much, they need to stop trying to cater to younger viewers, the Anne Hathaway and James Franco hosting was a disaster. People will either watch or not watch.
PS - Hope they cut out a lot of the dancing, let Debbie Allen get work on her own.
HORRIBLE STUPID RIDICULOUS. The only Oscar-related decisions worse was hiring Anne and James as hosts and the Snow White opening number.
What idiots!
Re: michaelz – Agree. There goes the dignified gravitas.
