    What the hell? What on earth do you have against Samantha Barks and Aaron Tveit. Not only were they the best parts of that performance, but also the movie. You always forgo them. Sam and Aaron had much longer screen time then Ann and Amanda.

    I don't mean to sound completely arrogant here, but please bear with me…
    As someone who is a professional classic musician and who has worked with people all over the world from the best opera houses, symphonies, and music conservatories, I can assure you that every single one of them is consistently flat and out of tune. Their vocal incapabilities are an embarrassment and an insult to those who devote their lives to acquiring vocal technique and musical skills. It completely undermines all the years and sweat and blood and tears that musical theatre performers and musicians alike have put in their work, and it is because of these ridiculous charlatans that musicians and musical theatre performers are losing jobs. This is killing our art - it's literally damaging peoples abilities to recognize true musicians from impostors. Please, I urge you to listen to the recordings of people that spent their lives dedicated to this art. Please keep this art form from continuing to decline…

    i can't understand why everyone goes gaga over jennifer hudson. I think her singing is terrible just like every other amer idol singer. She got a standing ovation and the best singer around Adele didn't. Adele was terrific and she shows what a professional singer sounds like.

    I'm so sorry. I loved the movie and love the cast. The performance started off great but towards the end it got totally out of sync. It was almost as if they couldn't hear each other and then they got progressively flat. Sorry Russel Crowe but I don't think you helped in that department. I have been in the show so I could tell immediately when it happened. Could have been better. It was really good in the movie though just not so much live tonight.

    I am also a professional musician who is classically trained, and I am refuting everything Stephanie just posted. While I have liked and appreciated Jennifer Hudson's various performances over the years, I felt "And I Am Telling You" was about a step too high which caused her to have to resort to what she habitually does. She strained and raised her larynx too high in order to scream out the high notes. Yes, the Les Mis number was flat towards the end, but to say that the whole cast was flat and a discredit to real singers and former casts, is plain wrong. Aaron Tveit, a seasoned Broadway vet with legit vocal training was not flat nor were Jackman and Redmayne. You obviously didn't like some of the casting choices in the movie, and I didn't really either, but your critique is way just plain mean.

    @stephanie, hitting the highest of notes does not make someone a great singer. It is about passion and soulfulness. Adele is not an acrobatic singer like JHudson, but she is unbelievably soulful. Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried can hit high notes, but it was more about conveying the words through song. By the way, I hate most Broadway belting,besides Audra McDonald- because she is always soulful and she doesn't over do it like JHudson. Different strokes for different folks.

    To all the "vocal experts" that think that Jhud's performance was anything short of amazing,
    You need to go watch the original version of this song by Jennifer Holiday. The song is supposed to be over the top. But, since you all are the musical theatre buffs I will let you be the judge. The proof is in the pudding, JHUD has an Oscar and a Grammy. She will join the EGOT club eventually. Haters gon' Hate!

    JHud again proves why she deserved that Oscar!! However, it appears she will always get criticism for that song because of the style in which it is sung. Jennifer's "screeching" was on-point with the motivation of the characters struggle, desperation, and helplessness. This song is the ultimate 'rock bottom' song. Do you imagine the song being gently and melodically song? No! So, if you have any insight into musical theatre then you would understand why she, above any other musical performer, got a tremendous standing ovation. Oh, and she's got one of those most powerful voices EVER! :)

Super classy. Beyonce at the Superbowl? Not so classy…

    Re: bob – I don't get the JHudson thing either. She is a good wedding singer, but no one I would actually pay to see. And I thought the movie version of Dreamgirls sucked. I just can't bear to hear Hudson copy Jennifer Holiday's vocal mannerisms and still not even come close to delving into the emotional content of the song and the scene's implication.
