Stone Temple Pilots Fire Lead Singer Scott Weiland!

Scott Weiland

Whoa! Rock band Stone Temple Pilots has fired lead singer Scott Weiland!!

This caught their fans by surprise and the statement they released didn't help much. It said:

"Stone Temple Pilots have announced they have officially terminated Scott Weiland."

That's it. That's the entire statement. Though it's less a statement and more a sentence.

Weiland had been with the band since they formed in 1986!

What's extra cray cray is that Weiland literally denied rumors of the band breaking up just yesterday, saying:

"STP has not broken up. I haven't quit. I haven't been fired."

Wow, we guess he was blindsided being terminated.

STP had just reformed in 2008 after a 5-year hiatus and went on tour last year, but we guess there was trouble in paradise.

It's unknown if they'll be replacing Weiland or if this is the end for Stone Temple Pilots.

Weiland is iconic in the alternative rock scene and beyond talented, so it seems like he'll be fine as he's embarking on a solo tour next month.

Still, that's gotta hurt to be fired from your own band.

Re: tempe – Moron, he was fired TODAY !

NEW YORK — Singer Scott Weiland said he learned that he'd been fired by the Stone Temple Pilots when the band released a one-sentence statement to the media Wednesday.

"I learned of my supposed 'termination' from Stone Temple Pilots this morning by reading about it in the press," he wrote in a statement. "Not sure how I can be 'terminated' from a band that I founded, fronted and co-wrote many of its biggest hits, but that's something for the lawyers to figure out."

The statement by the band said: "Stone Temple Pilots have announced they have officially terminated Scott Weiland." No other information was provided.

Weiland said he's focusing on his solo tour, which kicks off Friday in Flint, Mich.

Stone Temple Pilots' 1992 debut, "Core," has sold more than 8 million units in the United States. Their hits include "Vasoline," "Interstate Love Song" and "Plush," which won a Grammy in 1993 for best hard rock performance with vocal.

Weiland was also in the supergroup Velvet Revolver with Slash and other musicians. The 45-year-old has dealt with drug addiction, run-ins with the law and two failed marriages. He released his memoir, "Not Dead & Not for Sale," in 2011.

The Stone Temple Pilots' latest album is their self-titled 2010 release.

No surprise. He's been so screwed up during recording sessions that often the band had to just go with whatever came out of his mouth, right lyrics or not, and work with what they could get. On stage\tour he would be equally unpredictable, depending on his 'fix'. They've cancelled more shows, ended tours mid-way, than I can think iof because of his BS drug problems. He's been in and out of rehab a dozen times. Heck, Slash could not even work with him! As for the future of the band? Depends on who legally owns the name or if they even bothered to trademark it. Many bands don't and chaos ensues when the singer leaves or whatever. So depending, Weiland could form another Stone Temple Pilots, or the rest of the band could continue without him and get a new singer.
