Anderson Cooper On Anne Hathaway: 'I Don't Get The Hatred!'

| Filed under: Anne HathawayAnderson CooperOscarsBullying

anderson cooper anne hathaway hate oscars understand bullying dislike

Get'em, Silver Fox!!

Anne Hathaway has been the subject of some major hatin' as of late — something that we don't quite understand, just like Anderson Cooper doesn't. If so many people have a problem with her, why is it that he movies make a ton of money and she wins awards for them??

Even if you aren't keen on how she makes her acceptance speeches, that's still like 30 seconds out of your life that turns into much more time wasted on hate. Plus, it's a good thing that she doesn't even curr anyway! LOLz!

Here's what Anderson had to say:

"In our morning meeting today, we were talking about this and the level of hatred people have towards Anne Hathaway; I had no idea. She seems like a perfectly lovely person. I don't understand. She's incredibly talented, she seems like a lovely person, I think she's been through a lot. People have all these judgments about her; they don't know what she's really like . . . It upset me."

Agreed, boo! Plus, we get the vibe from Anne that she's a sweetheart through and through!

Anderson continued about her speech:

"She got up there, she made eye contact, she remembered people's names without reading it. I mean, give her a break."

We think what people are getting at is the perceived sincerity of it all, that they feel like she's still acting when she takes to the podium — which is still not a justification.

He continued:

"The amount of pressure she must feel knowing all these people hate her—give her a break; she seems like a lovely young person. Again, people form all these opinions on people based on nothing. You have no actual evidence. I've got no dog in this hunt. I don't know Anne Hathaway. It just seems so completely unfair to me. I had no idea this whole hatred existed, I feel like I've just woken up and realized the entire universe is attacking her and I feel bad for her and I am defending her."

It's bullying, through and through. Anne has never insulted anyone, or made awful comments!

We agree with Anderson on this one — girl needs a break! If you don't like her, fine, just don't be mean about it!

Loved all her movies, love her look, love her smile! So she gives 'insincere' speeches which does not affect her unarguable beauty and amazing acting talents. Oh and she can sing above average as well!

Definitely do not get what all the hatred is about.

  2. beach says – reply to this

You "hate" on people all the time whether you think so or not, so for you to even be posting this is ridiculous. You have no right to criticize anyone about being critical of anyone.

  3. JS says – reply to this

Perez shut the f*ck up!You bully Kristen Stewart every chance you get and you did it before the incident with Rupert Sanders so you can not use that as your excuse. Every time you make a comment condemning bullying it sickens me because you are one of the top social media bullies of all time. " If you don't like her, fine, just don't be mean about it!" Take your own damn advice.

  4. 4

It's just jealousy. The press keeps holding her up to our faces and she seems so perfect,, and to be that talented, pretty and nice too? Fuggetaboutit. We HAVE to find a flaw. She should just lay back a bit.

  5. Leslie says – reply to this

It's her whiny little girl voice everyone hates, not her. She talks like a 10 yr old.

  6. buzzybee says – reply to this

NOW Perez.. congrats on that baby BOY. remember he is an innocent child. I think many of your comments are biased & not at all sincere & border on bullying. I think your incinuations towards others are not based on much fact but for drama. Lets back it up a little & do what you proclaimed to do a year or so ago finding good in people. Sharing facts & quit the trashing especially other parents trying to raise there children.. You just joined a nother part of being a human being & raising a son. You knwo what is coming at some point for him. Why not start now on changing that. Can you.

  7. Dani says – reply to this

She's fine I don't know what all the hate is about either. She's not perfect, nobody is.

  8. 4fucksake says – reply to this

Interesting… all this "hate". I, myself, never cared for her… does that mean she is a bad actress… Nope. However, because I don't care for her, personally, should it be called: "hate", "bullying", etc? I give respect where respect is due (her acting), yet, I agree with the masses… she is provincial. In reality she is the "theatre kid" that is annoying. Fanning humility and substance where this none. Oh, she is perfect… Perfect to the point of vapid.

"Hate", is a strong word. Perez, Anderson Cooper and all others out there champion the cause… it's perfectly acceptable to enjoy someone's work (Anne Hathaway) and not care for the person. I do it every day… In the non-celebrity world.

  9. brando says – reply to this

Maybe you should check ur spelling. "he movies" I think you mean her

I never cared for her. And that's my right. I find her fake and annoying. I have enjoyed many movies she is in and I respect her as an actress. People can respect others and not have to like them. She is annoying and ppl pick up on that. I'm sure she is a great kind hearted person but on the surface level she is someone I really don't care about seeing or wanna hear talk. More so when her nipples are cutting the glass in front of me.

  10. Ktigglet says – reply to this

I do not "hate" Anne Hathaway, but I do not respect her. Her whinny and whinny about how tramatic it was to cut her hair, showed me how shallow this woman is. Anne got payed millions of dollars for her roll, and knew when signing the contract what was required. Many many women in this world lose their hair everyday due to chemotherapy. They do it with class and dignity. Anne has shown none of these attributes, and comes across self absorbed.

  11. 11

Pretty sure at least two of the three above me are the same person. Either way, Anne is amazing, always has been. Not liking her because how she accepted an award is about the silliest thing I've ever heard.

  12. 12

I love Anne since the begin. I knew she was a star there and now she is more than a star. And by the way in a few years we are going to see another child star get his Oscar -Joshua Ryan "Josh" Hutcherson - that boy is beyond talented!

  13. 13

    Re: JS – I agree!

  14. chanel says – reply to this

I don't hate her I just feel like she tries too hard. She just seems to want everyone to like her and comes across as very uptight and phony. She should just relax and be herself. Don't worry about getting photographed without her makeup on and wearing jeans. I think she is probably one of the most down to earth, nicer of the celebrities but because of her media image she comes across as the exact opposite. She should go on the Ellen show and let the public get to know the real her without the pretense.

  15. rick stormm says – reply to this

can't stand this chihuahua faced b1tch, dont know whose stupid enough to like her, i guess there are all sorts out there. everytime she comes on the TV all our friends and family break out into ohhs and ahhhhs, at first i did not get it myself, then realized there is something very very annoying about her…..its the chihuahua face i guess.

  16. rick stormm says – reply to this

Re: rick stormm – who gives a rats behind? here you say she tries too hard and in the second breathe advise her to go on the ellen degenerate show just for PR? you're the same fake type.

  17. AdamBanks says – reply to this

Many of the hat haters are not about her looks, her screen acting, or her voice. Much of the dising of Ms Hathaway is the lack of substance she puts in her off screen acting. For example she joined the march on Wall street to support the students stand against the excessive cost of higher education, "BRAVOO". Then she stated her stand, The educators need to be paid more, for the hours they work. Isn't that raising the cost?

  18. 18

i have absolutely no jealousy towards her whatsoever. and i cannot stand her at all! i think she is fretfully annoying, needy, and not the best actress. i do not understand the awards. i love mila kunis, sara lawrence, but anne hathaway… yawn.

  19. roxy says – reply to this

she is like the taylor swift of the film industry

  20. 20

hahaha…I live for these comments…it can't be serious…LOL…Americans are funny! Thank you guys!

  21. Geddylea says – reply to this

I think society often just picks someone to pick on because people are like sheep and somehow they chose Anne. She is beautiful (grow your hair back) has a perfect figure and she is not a train wreck. People are jealous. You won so don't believe the sheep they will move on to a newby soon.

Re: Ktigglet – Listen, Just because there are women who lose their hair due to chemo, does not mean that there is anything wrong with the fact that it bothered her to have to cut her hair off so short for her job!! Please! This whole thing is just as ridiculous as your perspective. Nothing negative that is being said here is actually true of her. Sounds like a personal issue to me. We judge by our own outlook. And if that outlook is a negative one, we will find the negative. Even if we have to make it all up in our own head. She is a perfectly lovely and talented young woman. Some people just don't feel good enough about themselves to not feel jealous about that!

  23. boheme19 says – reply to this

Re: hjshjs – Me thinks thou dost protest too much!!!

  24. 24

Re: beach – "Truerer words cannot be denied. If it sis someone the evil, rude ms. Perez created a new level of hatred and capitalized on that negativity turning it into a full time career.

  25. 25

That's a good one from the original tin queen of negativity and darkness. Haven't you made a full-time monetary compensated career hating on celebrities? That's a rhetorical point. Of course you have? In fact, were it not for your nasty, little tacky blog, who knows if you wouldn't have been flipping 99 cent burgers at McDonald's.

  26. CaroleLyne says – reply to this

I will admit that there are hat-haters out there that dislike anything Hathaway. I'm a hat-hater not because I dislike her work, her appearance, her voice, or even the words she uses. My findings are that she seems to sincerly believe what she says, then contradicts her self with action. For example her reason for ending it with the ex(con), FRAUD. Yet the current BF of several years, has been caught at: art thief; drugs, and abuse of camera carriers (ran down a bike rider for possession of a camera). Then she has claimed he cherrishes her, but when he is on the phone won't hang up to enjoy a sunset. Then there was her joining the march on Wall Street to protest the high cost of public education, her stand educators should be paid more….

  27. 27

i heard there was hating on her too probably here.. but I have yet to see anyone actually hating on her. Don't get it

  28. Kime says – reply to this

I don't hate her and up until Les Mis I thought her barely tolerable, but since then I can't stand her. I personally don't think the girl can sing, she gets this amazing role, and complains the whole time about it. How it was hard to cut her hair, how she lost all this weight for her role and how it was hard, that she watched the movie and cringed because she "knows I can't sing." There have been many actresses that have cut their hair for a role Natalie Portman for one, who didn't whine as much. There have been many actresses and actors who have lost tremendous amounts of weight (Matt Mcconaughey, Christian Bale, etc.) who didn't complain as much. You're getting paid millions, if you don't like something about a role than don't do the movie.

I also feel that she thinks she's above everyone else, which isn't true. When you get down to it, she is just like everyone else. Are there people better than her? Absolutely, leaps and bounds better. However, she's such a vapid, vain, snob (especially recently) that it makes people see her in a different light. I can't remember who said it, but I remember hearing a reporter say about Anne at the Oscars "it's like someone told her she was America's Sweetheart and she took them seriously. Instead, she's shown up at the party as the laughing stock."

  29. robin says – reply to this

    I love you Anne!!!!!

  30. ela says – reply to this

i dont understand why we should like anne hathaway.. really?? explain that to me? we cant all like her! Some people like other people batter! SHe is and actress and in this business you have to have more thick skin than that Mr Aderson you should know that better!! You cant make me like her! Not everyone like jlo or angelina jolie… you see them complaining about it?? Many people like hathaway as an actress others dont you cant tell them who to like!! And pleaseeeeee NO give us a break what she's been through ?? Even when her ex Follieri she was living the life! I dont think that she was paying the bills and if the media says that i think its 100% false! OTHER PEOPLE BEEN THROUGH ROUGH TIMES AND STILL ARE I DONT THINK HATHAWAY HAS REALLY SHE IS AN ACTRESS SINCE HER TEENAGE YEARS!! ANYWAY I THINK JUST BECAUSE SHE SUPPORT GAY PEOPLE WHICH NOTHINGS WRONG WITH THAT, ANDERSON DEFENDS HER! GIVE AS A BREAK MR. ANDERSON I THINK PEOPLE SHOULD FOCUS ON KIDS THAT ARE GOING THROUGH CANCER AND KIDS THAT ARE STARVING AND NOT ON THIS LADY THAT SHE ALWAYS NEEDS ATTENTION!

  31. fid says – reply to this

Unfortunately women love to hate other women. Not really sure why but some of us tend to have pleasure tearing another woman down (for no apparent reason). Ever been to high school? Girls are vindictive and vicious. What Anderson says is true, there is no reason for people to be tearing her apart like they are, it's not like she's drowning kittens, beating her boyfriend or selling sexuality like many other people who others seem to love. I wish women would come together and I hate to say it but men are above us when it comes to helping their sex out.

  32. fid says – reply to this

Re: Ktigglet – Women may cut their hair for chemotherapy and it's a brave thing. However you're not behind closed doors for all those situations so how do you know it was done with class and dignity? How many women probably wept or had strong feelings about losing their hair? It's an unfair judgement/reason to hate somebody that has a public forum to express her feelings about losing something like her hair. It's not as if she is constantly talking about it and seems to be rocking the look now.

  33. fid says – reply to this

The double standard on judgement is astounding. I don't particulary like Anne Hathaway, never have really but I don't watch movies because someone I like is in it, I watch it for the film itself. However, I don't dislike her either, she does her job just fine.

But I've noticed people saying that they dislike her for talking about her weightloss and her hair cutting for the film and tearing her apart for mentioning it publicly. Yet how many male actors have lost weight for film roles and discussed it and been called great actors for taking it to that level? Gloss over whatever your true reasons for disliking her but don't make that the reason.

Re: boheme19 – You are so right.

  35. Carol says – reply to this

Anne Hathaway rocks and I do not feel her speeches are at all insincere. In fact, just the opposite. I think she's seems like a really cool, down to earth person who would be fun to have a beer with. Ignore the haters, they're just jealous.

    Congrats on the baby, Perez!

  36. 36

Re: Kime – "America's Sweet Heart" was a movie they may have been refering to. Where the actress seemed very much like what Anne is sort of coming off as. The public face was very different then the real life person.

  37. 37

Re: Carol – Laughter no one has said that her speeches are insincere, they have commented upon how her actions seem not to support her words. This is not the same as saying that her acting in her speeches are not heartfelt. Just the follow thru has no connection to the speech.

  38. Nina says – reply to this

Absolutely love Anne Hathaway. She's beautiful, REAL, she's talented. Think people are just envious & bitter.
She seems like a sincere person unlike Jennifer Lawrence who's a Weinstein-product being sold as "genuine", someone everyone wants aas their BFF. Who falls according to script -poorly performance - and campaigns rockahard for an Oscar backed up by mr Weinsten.

Don't get the hatred towards Anne whatsoever. Uncalled for.

  39. 39

  40. 40

Yesterday, I was 100% Anne, today only 75%. Read about her antics over her Valentino dress and her animosity towards Amanda Seyfried who was wearing a "similar" dress by Alexander McQueen. Overlauded for her performance in Les Miz, she is already acting the diva, not very nice of you Anne. You have talent, why burn bridges.

  41. pj88 says – reply to this

People are hating on Anne because she had a "perfect" year. A new marriage, a great career, a huge movie hit, an Oscar… It's very sad that people can't just be happy for her and let her be. I blame the media who were determined to break her squeeky clean image and make her a total Hollywood diva bitch… so not true. I have run into Anne TWICE on the streets of New York and she has been nothing but lovely, genuine and cordial. Give Ms Hathaway a break people!!!!

  42. 42

Re: pj88 – Lucky you were not run over by her boy toy

  43. 43

It's called "tall poppy syndrome", and it happens quite a lot actually. The next target of hate will be Jennifer Lawrence, guaranteed.

  44. 44

Re: fiona_virginia – So you think Anne is going to have all her peers executed. That is what tall poppy syndrome is finally about. the great eliminating the competition.

  45. Be-Atch says – reply to this

People hate her because she is a phoney…..and, she has a BIG NOSE. I think she tries to be all sweet and innocent…trying to be America's sweetheart. Likely goes home and does oodles of blow, and f*cks anything that cums her ways…there is just something really fake about her.

  46. Be-Atch says – reply to this

She tries to act all innocent and sweet, and well…she has been around. You don't thin k she has not been to the HollyWood parties where the blow and other stimulants are passed around like a joint ? ? ? SHE IS A FAKE !

  47. 47

Re: Be-Atch – She don't need to go to a party for the drugs, she has only to ask Adam to share

  48. Be-Atch says – reply to this

LOL ! True dat ! But I mean, really…her fake babykins voice…her little innocent coming out of car with her snatch showing…her handlers are trying to hard to make her 'likeable'…she is a phoney from day one…watch any interviews with her, and she 'gushes' just a little too much. Keep on hat'n, I say, till she has something valid to say ……OR, that video of her, going down on some guy at that HollyWood party, HIGH, is released on the internet.

  49. 49

Re: Be-Atch – LOL Party Annie is protected. To many people look to her for a paycheck that anything that goes on line isn't going to get flatten faster then a cow pie. Just look at the Adam running ovcer a bike rider with her in the car; the police threaten the bike rider to not question the blame being his for riding in the bike lane while Adam made a right turn. Well this won't get past the mods.

  50. 50

I was a fan and I really wanted her to win. But after the GG awards something switched. I felt annoyed. Perez posted the same thing or something negative about it and I defended her. I thought I was just annoyed because I was premenstrual or something. LOL. But no, it was because of her. It's really odd to have a negative feeling about her now because I've seen almost all her movies and I like her acting. People are saying she tries too hard, maybe that's it.

  51. Be-Atch says – reply to this

I know ! These people live a different life…they get away with MURDER ! It is all publicity and marketing…take that Swift broad, for example. She sleeps around like crazy, but comes across as all sweet and hugs…in reality, the girl is a Class-A Tramp…same with this BIG-NOSED Skank…..She brings on the haters by over-doing her gushy gushy star-struck act………Almost makes me appreciate that Lohan Broad for her being real ! I said 'almost' …..

  52. Michele says – reply to this

My thoughts exactly. I adore Anne Hathaway and all the vitriol directed at her is thoroughly absurd.

  53. Be-Atch says – reply to this

She really is a cunnnnnnnnt face !

  54. Be-Atch says – reply to this

she has a BIG NOSE, and that short 'do does not help …………………………….
