Smash Fails To Rake In The Ratings & Hits A Series LOW! NBC To Pull The Plug?

smash ratings hit series low

Oh no… it sounds like one show just might be headed for cancellation!

Just one month into season two, NBC’s Smash has not been doing too well in the ratings rat race and on Tuesday night, it hit a new series low!

The show dropped 22 percent in ratings, nearly tying the CW’s Hart Of Dixie — definitely not a good sign!

Guess not even appearances from the ever AHmazing Jennifer Hudson could get the viewers to tune in!!

Compared to the show’s pilot episode, which raked in around 11 million viewers, just a little over 2 million viewers from Tuesday night’s episode is quite the decline!!!

With this season debuting with only 4.5 million viewers, reports are now saying that the high-priced production might even be pulled BEFORE this season’s finale!

With such a superstar cast and LOTS of dramz, what could’ve gone wrong?

Too many storylines. The writers are veering away from Bombshell and trying to get viewers interested in every other actors' subplot. No offense to any of the other actors personally, but following the development of the "show" is the interesting part, not all of the segmented love lives and turmoils of the extraneous cast. They need to drop the Ellis backstabbing storyline, the love story of the producer and the inmate, the additional Ronnie character, the new comedy/drama renaissance play, and get back to Bombshell.

Todd hit the nail on the head. Plus, the new characters and SONGS just aren't dynamic and Jennifer Hudson is robotic. I LOVED the first season where the drama was real and not contrived. One great season is going to have to be enough, I guess.

Re: Todd – agreed. the show is just going all over the place.

It's Katherine McPhee.. We just can't with her.

Agreed, they need to wrap up these subplots ASAP and get back to Bombshell.

One of the reasons things went south was because Ivy wasn't Marilyn! The writers forced us to like Karen since the very first episode. Absolutely hate Karen!

Badly written and overacted. Keep hoping for better but it's not happening.

Re: sarah – I agree. Ivy was the perfect Marilyn - it was not credible when they didn't choose her. I also agree with everyone who says there are too many story lines. They should have left the producer without a love life, and the writer happily married, and focused on Bombshell.

Re: Todd – I love SMASH and i hope they don't get cancelled, but Todd is right. Way too much. I was upset when I realized the Ellis character was still involved in the show and I really don't care about the other plays. They really need to get back to Bombshell and just focus on it's development!

The issue with that show is that they waited WAYYYYYYY too long to hit the premiere. They needed to do it right out of the gate in the Fall like everyone else. They missed the boat. And I LOVE that show!

Re: NE1 – Are you frickin kidding me! Ivy is the WORST! Karen is amazing! She's like that girl next door you root for and you want her to get her happy ending. There is way too much going on in the story, cutting out unnecessary people like IVY would make it much better!

The trouble with most of these shows now is that they will air for a few weeks and get the audience interested and then they do not air for a few weeks, or change time slots! In the past, shows played every week, same time, same channel till December, then January to May finales, that when you got the desired loyal followers.

What could have gone wrong? I won't name names, but it begins with a K and ends with a Phee.

The problem is that they barely showed any commercials for the new season, I record several shows on NBC and I barely saw a commercial for the new season, I didn't even know when it started! Now that I've seen past episodes, I am noticing it's not as great as last season, they're veering off way too much from Bombshell, but I do still love the show, hoping it gets better before they decide to cancel.

The show is putting too much emphasis on bringing in guest stars and there are too many story lines. Karen (McPhee) isn't believable as Marilyn, Ivy (Megan Hilty) was much better in the part. Jennifer Hudson added nothing to the show–just a distraction from the Bombshell storyline. Karen discovering two unknown writers and delivering them to Broadway isn't believable either. Karen never had a starring role and was an unknown from Iowa, doesn't make sense. The character played by Sean Hayes doesn't make sense either. Hoping it gets better.

DO NOT CANCEL….DO NOT CANCEL. First off, I hate that this show is just a 1/2 season it doesn't give potential viewers the ability to get hooked onto the show. No sooner are you completly involved in the characters and the 1/2 season is over. I love the multiple storylines, I love the potential for all 3 shows going up against one another. I like following Ivy, Derek, Karen and I LOVE Jimmy and the new music. I want to see Bombshell succeed…I am invested!!!! This show needs some time to find an audience. Award nominations have been granted to this show, it SHOULD NOT die!!!!

  17. 17

Yes, I would also agree with having the season premiere in WHAT ……FEB…are you kidding me. Everyone who watches TV is looking for their new show in the FALL…..Hello. Stop with the 1/2 season crap. Start this out like every other show and you will see results.

I THINK THE RATINGS WOULD HAVE BEEN HIGH IF DEREK AND KAREN GOT TOGETHER.
LOOK AT YOU TUBE - KAREN AND DEREK ARMS VIDEO (AND OTHERS). THAT IS WHY I WATCHED THE SHOW AS WELL AS MANY OTHERS. JACK DAVENPORT IS SO TALENTED.
HE WILL BE A BIG STAR SOMEDAY. HE IS MY FAVORITE ACTOR!

Katherine McPhee's character is highly unlikeable and an unconvincing Marilyn.

Yall are wrong i like the way Karen left and ivy became miss marilyn Monroe like she was meant to play and I love Karen got her own show what I don't like is how they changed the character's from the first season like Karen and ivy getting along no no no and tom taking the place of Derek and they should have kept ellis on because he made drama I miss season 1
