James Franco Outs Homophobia In Advertising!

| Filed under: Gay Gay GayFilm FlickersJames FrancoLGBT

James Franco dropped a MAJOR reality bomb at the premiere of Spring Breakers at SXSW last night.

…if you wanted some reminding, homophobia is still a HUGE issue today.

The actor has been a part of plenty controversial movies, but it was the gay-themed films — Leather Bar and Kink — that premiered at Sundance which caused him to lose THREE major advertising endorsements!

Being the classy man that he is, James didn't name the three companies, but it looks like it was ALL their loss for giving him the boot because his flick, Oz The Great and Powerful, opened at #1 this weekend!!

Ch-ch-check out the interview and fall even MORE in love with the talented activist (above)!!!

As if we needed anymore reason to love him!

James needs to watch out, lest he's blacklisted by who's who in Hollywood…

He walks to the beat of his own drummer and you have to admire him for that. He doesn't care what people think, and he's off-beat in an interesting way, not scary (think: Joaquin Phoenix). Good on James.

Who the hell cares? He sounds like a moron!

If you don't like to watch 2 guys get it on (anal) etc doesn't make you a homophobe. Goes to show you that the gay community are a bunch of whiners.

Bottom line is the bottom line. Most people are disgusted by homosexuality and don't want it in their face. So, unless you are marketing primarily to homosexuals and wannabe's, it's much smarter to stay away from someone seen as 'gay'. 'Phobia' - no, it's not phobia, it's common sense.

    Re: mavisrooster

I think what most people today need to deal with is heterophobia. Why is the fact that gays are heterophobic never discussed ?

It will never not be a "issue" get over it. A lot of people don't like seeing 2 guys together. All my guy friends, my husband my dad. they find it disgusting. but it doesn't make them a homophobe. Unless they act like pansies like you . A lot of people find that even more disgusting

I don't think there is a group more vocal about the issue of TOLERANCE than the gay community. What is amazing is how INTOLERANT they are. Anyone who disagrees with homosexuality for any reason is BASHED by calling them HOMOPHOBIC.
The word homophobia is defined as a FEAR of homosexuals.
It's like the old grade school method of daring your peers: "Oh common why don't you try heroin, cocaine, (being gay) what are you afraid of? Are you a sisssy? "
The oldest (and most intollerant) method in the book (when you can't win an argument based on it's merits) is to humiliate your opponent in the eyes of the public to make them quit.
Hey gays (pun on guys), When are you going to get it straight (pun also intended) Hetero's are not afraid of homosexuality they just see it as disgusting, vile and just plain wrong.

When are you going to start DEMONSTRATING TOLERANCE by accepting the fact that people have the right to disagree with your lifestyles and that we have the right to say we don't want to raise our children like that?

James Franco is a true American Hero - He understands what human rights mean - it happened with women's rights and racial equality and will now happen with gay rights. Those issues were in your face then and gay rights issues are in your face now - but = gay rights will come despite hate and homophobia. So here is to "in your face" and the hope that it gets to where gay rights are in your face 24 hours a day. Hate never wins.

NO such thing as homophobia, no one is scared of them it's called disgust.

Every stupid liberal actor has to have his own liberal mission. How pathetic.

Re: ray – …… You are incorrect, and indulging in wishful thinking. Not more or less. Homosexuality has NEVER been "accepted" by normal human beings long term in recorded history.
And homosexuality only manifests at eras of declining/dying nations. The US is one of those nations.

  13. Rebecca says – reply to this

Re: ray – Just wondering what exactly a "gay right" is? You people are always talking about gay rights as if you were like black people being asked to sit in the back of the bus. Gays do not have the same civil rights issues as blacks who are BORN black or women who are BORN women. You are making a lifestyle choice and wanting special rights because of your choices. Back off. Sit down and shut up!

Re: mavisrooster – Then why in the hell are you reading Perez Hilton's website? Especially if you think homosexuals are a bunch of whiners.

  15. fuskiegirl21 says – reply to this

1st of all I want to know is Franco Gay or Straight? and 2ndly I think "Interior Leather Bar" was extremely homophobic. So he is producing movies that are homophobic. The blacklisting in hollywood does need to stop and advertisers need to get with the program. I applaud him for taking a stance even if it cost him three advertisers.

  16. Mark says – reply to this

    Re: Sam
Maybe because straight people have beaten gays to death on numerous occasions?

  17. Mark says – reply to this

Your rationale is stupid. You're saying "gays are wrong for complaining about being treated as second class citizens. Straight people should be able to tell you how disgusted they are by you and you're intolerant if you complain about it."
You find homosexuality disgusting. Fine. Keep it to yourself. But you don't have the right to treat anyone different because you do.

  18. KT says – reply to this

Homophobia is defined as an aversion to gay people, not just a fear. But you say you hate gay people, but hate is driven by fear. Also, for those who think that only gay people are in support for gay rights, you are so completely wrong. I'm a straight ally and I'm also interested in lgbt movies. If you're against gay people, then you're like a racist. At one point, it was okay to say you hate black people, but it's not now. Times are changing now like they were back then. You won't be able to say you think homosexuality is wrong because most are adapting and most are accepting. Deal with it. And it's not just a liberal thing either. I know plenty of conservatives who accept gay people. See? Your kids are probably changing, too, whether you like it or not.

Re: KT – Kudos to you from another forward thinking heterosexual, who supports human/gay rights. All one needs to do is look at the many small minded and uneducated comments on this board, to understand that HOMOPHOBIA is still sadly alive and well, and how far we still need to go to eradicate homophobia in our society. So keep on keep to all in the fight, keep shoving it in their faces!

And to Mr. Franco, I many not always like your film choices, but will keep seeing them just to support you, HW needs more people willing to stand up for things they know are wrong instead of taking the money and keeping their mouths shut.

The link to this article was on the Yahoo page. There are a lot of cruel and vile people on Yahoo, so don't be surprised by the first couple of hate comments.

Re: askwho – wrong. being gay is a perversion and an aberration. It will never be accepted as normal, though it may be tolerated, to a point.

  23. al says – reply to this

Re: HAH – See, what you said, shoving it in their faces is what is causing you to lose support and any credibility you may have had. The pendulum swings both ways and its soon to swing back again led by all those who have had it "shoved in their faces."

  24. Thomas says – reply to this

I'm against homosexuality not because i'm "afraid" of it, but rather it is against nature, and angers God immensely. I was going to watch oz next week, but after reading this article i think i'm going to watch something else instead.

  25. Killgay says – reply to this

The correct word is not homophobie. The correct word is pervertophobia.

  26. Scott says – reply to this

Must be scary to be a homophobe today. Much like being a crazy white racist knowing the world is passing you by. Poor wittle ignorant homophobes. Go cuddle your bibles and beat your wife and kids like a good redneck.

  27. londongiirlintheD says – reply to this

maybe he was dropped because playing gay might lose their key demographic that advertiser was going for, and they anticipated his loss of popularity. or maybe because they just dont like him. nonetheless i'm speculating as is he.
