Matt Lauer just can't seem to catch a break lately!
The anchor was already under heavy scrutiny for the firing of Ann Curry and the Today show's plummeting ratings, and we're guessing his highly controversial interview with filmmaker John Ziergler concerning Jerry Sandusky isn't helping him win any popularity contests!
But it sounds like some good might come out of this ugly mess, as we're hearing NBC is reaching out to Anderson Cooper to replace Matt!
A source close to the situation claims that the deal could be coming fairly soon, saying:
"I hear NBC toppers recently reached out to CNN’s Anderson Cooper to replace Lauer on the show before the end of the year."
All drama aside, this sounds like a pretty good move to us. Especially if Today wants a lead anchor who is, you know, likable!
Although it seems like Matt is getting the short end of the stick, he's apparently ok with the silver fox taking his job and is planning on scheduling a replacement meeting sometime in the near future, so at least there wont be any bad blood between them.
While this probably isn't the graceful send-off the anchor was hoping for, we're sure he wont have too much trouble finding work. Besides, there's always Jeopardy!
