We've been waiting quite some time for new deets on an Independence Day follow-up, and now it looks like we're finally getting some answers on a sequel!
Actually, make that sequels!
That's right! Director Roland Emmerich has revealed that the new film, titled ID Forever will be a two-parter! Woohoo!!
He went on to say that the sequel will take place 20 years after the original, and gave us some clues for what to expect:
"It's a changed world. It's like parallel history. [Humans] have harnessed all this alien technology. We don't know how to duplicate it because it's organically-grown technology, but we know how to take an antigravity device and put it in a human airplane."
Um… ok. But what about the aliens? What's the deal with them?
He went on to explain:
"The humans knew that one day the aliens would come back. And they know that the only way you can really travel in space is through wormholes. So for the aliens, it could take two or three weeks, but for us that's 20 or 25 years."
Well duh! Everyone knows that!
As far as casting is concerned, Bill Pullman has signed on to reprise his role as President Whitmore, and we can only assumed he's received some kind of promotion since kicking some major alien booty 20 years ago!
Will Smith hasn't joined the crew yet, but apparently they'll have no problem moving on without him, as the new film will focus more on the next generation of alien fighters!
Although we can hardly imagine an Independence Day sequel without The Fresh Prince, we're just happy to hear there's going to be a sequel in the first place!
