Sounds like someone is still just a bit bitter.
David Letterman lost out to Jay Leno for the hosting spot on Tonight Show way back when and it appears he doesn't have very much faith his retiring competitor is ACTUALLY retiring for good!
In his Wednesday night monologue on The Late Show, David wished Jay "congratulations" on his retirement and a "job well done"…kind of.
The veteran late night host said:
"Now earlier today, NBC announced that Jimmy Fallon will take over for Jay Leno as host of the Tonight Show in February of 2014. This is…something's wrong here. This happened once before with Conan O'Brien, and then they had to bring Jay back, and so he had to start his show all over again, and now it looks like the same thing is happening. And I just–I don't get this. He's retiring, so it says, and good for him. I've known him 38 years. I've known Jay Leno for 38 years…so now he's out again, but going out on top."
But Jay himself said that this time is FOR REAL and not anything like what went down with Conan O'Brien.
As a friend of 28 years, he should give him the benefit of the doubt!!!
So we're going to go ahead and assume David isn't Jimmy Fallon's biggest fan. LOLz.
Could it be that he fears the youngin' will continue to beat him in the ratings??
Nothing wrong with a little healthy competition, Dave!
