Gun Reform: Connecticut Passes Nation's Strictest Gun Control Laws In Wake Of Newtown Tragedy!

| Filed under: Legal MattersPolitikSad SadSchool

gun control legislation connecticut passes strictest laws in united states

Steps are finally being taken to protect our children from gun violence!

It's been nearly four months since Adam Lanza murdered 26 people at Sandy Hook Elementary School — today Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy signed a bill aimed at preventing similar tragedies.

The law bans the sale of over 100 different guns and also magazines, such as the ones Adam used, that hold more than ten rounds.

Connecticut House majority leader Joe Aresimowicz is proud of the new legislation. He said:

“I pray today’s bill — the most far-reaching gun safety legislation in the country — will prevent other families from ever experiencing the dreadful loss that the 26 Sandy Hook families have felt.”

We certainly hope he's right!

This is surely a great first step in the right direction, but there is work left to be done!!

Hopefully this CT victory becomes the catalyst for the nationwide gun reform our country anxiously awaits!

I think the majority should rule on guns IDCare But just like the propaganda scum feeding idiot that wrote this article. Adam was in a house full of guns—One bullet shot his mom. You would truly need a machine gun to plow down a bunch of 5 year olds and their teachers….? Whoever wrote this article you're using these children. There was NO legislation that would of curbed Adam's rampage. He was in a houseful of legal guns and he was of age. If we are going to have guns, lets not pretend not to have guns. The guy at UT had a shot gun, right. Just be honest and don't schlep these poor parents out, Don't they know to a small child a bullet out of any gun is dead. We have guns.

Re: ReenCT – It's doesn't. They are trying to address the problem without even addressing the problem. Laws are there for honest individuals that actually follow them while crime is committed by criminal individuals that don't follow laws, that's the catch 22. They already had some of the strictest gun laws pre-Sandy Hook and you already know how well those worked. These new ones won't make a bit of difference.

Chicago has the strictest gun control laws in the country. See how well that is working? We need to go after criminals, not law abiding citizens. Plain and simple.

you know why this is all about government power? It's because the democrats can't produce any studies (that aren't produced by ultra liberal mayor michael bloomberg) that say definitively that gun control works.

This reminda me of? The videos from like 50's we watchd in history about ducking and covering if there is an atomic bomb warning. It won't stop anything but they made stupid people feel safer.

This is simply emotional knee-jerk reactions that will ultimately solve nothing and just punish law abiding citizens. When you focus on the tool without questioning or acknowledging the variables and causes as to what made the person kill someone in the first place nothing will change. The main contributing factors in gun violence is mental illness, social, cultural, economical, education. Since it's pretty much a fact the majority of our gun crimes are in poor inner city ghettos mainly consisting of blacks and black people kill at a disproportionally higher number, for some reason this fact isn't acknowledged, maybe because it isn't politically correct? It's been proven true for every country in the world, poverty = bad education, poverty + bad education = high crime. The "war on drugs" is the biggest contributor to our gun homicides. Sigh, but people are too busy wanting to ban an AR-15. A weapon that accounts for the LEAST amount of gun homicides.

  15. 15

These proposals and most of their supporters know little to nothing at all about firearms. AR-15s are no different than any other semi-automatic weapon. They just look big and scary and are generally replicas of military rifles. They are wanting to ban guns based solely on cosmetic features, while still allowing hundreds of thousands of semi-autos, it won't do anything.

The clip size is moronic and yet another band-aid feel good fix. For one, you can now print magazines using 3D printers, as some texan kid on a youtube video has pointed out. Secondly, they aren't stamped, or kept track of in anyway. So it would be impossible to tell if it was grandfathered in, so acquiring them would be as easy as going on craigslist. Let us also not forget most guns are set up to where the mag release is right by the trigger, you can drop the mag, reload it in half a second and release the bolt without ever even taking your finger off the trigger. Mag limits will simply force shooters to carry more mags and reload more often. Sorry but the terrible fail excuse "well that will save one life" isn't worth infringing on 90+ million gun owners constitutional rights.

Rifles account for around 3.4% of gun homicides per year, but that factors in ALL rifles. So anything the public deems an "assault rifle" accounts for much, much less than 3.4%. The worst shooting we had was actually carried out with pistols and standard round magazines.

The feel good laws make criminals out of the innocent and give the criminals new hunting grounds.

  17. 17

Let's just blame the guns… not the mental illnesses most of these mass murderers suffer from. Can guns be dangerous, ABSOLUTELY. However they are only as dangerous as the person pulling the trigger.

  18. 18

Have you ever looked up the definitely of a criminal? THEY DON'T CARE WHAT THE LAWS ARE!!!!! Gun control laws only affect the LAW ABIDING citizen. Criminals will still get their guns, the insane will still find a way to cause harm. Timothy McVeigh didn't use a gun & did you know that all of the ingredients he used for his bomb are still easily available to everyone?

  19. 19

The largest school massacre in US history was in 1927. A man bombed a school, leaving 45 dead. So, there's that…

Re: Jessicalc – Ban the mentally unstable. (You can't.) Big deterrents work pretty well.

  23. 23

It makes no sense, with a hunting rifle you have to aim harder to make every shot count. opposed to some just randomly shoting in a general direction of people and fighting the kick. people are so stupid.
