Snoop Reveals Serious Ignorance When Discussing Homosexuality In The Rap Community!

snoop on gay community

Well, this is extremely disappointing to hear.

Snoop Lion recently spoke out about whether or not he believes Frank Ocean's decision to come out last year will make it easier for gay people to be open about their sexuality in the rap world, and sadly, his opinion on the matter illustrates just how ill-informed he is about the LGBT community!

According to him:

"Frank Ocean ain't no rapper. He's a singer. It's acceptable in the singing world, but in the rap world I don't know if it will ever be acceptable because rap is so masculine. It's like a football team. You can't be in a locker room full of motherf-cking tough-ass dudes, then all of a sudden say, 'Hey, man, I like you.' You know, that's going to be tough. I don't have a problem with gay people. I got some gay homies. Yeah, for real. People who were gay used to get beat up. It was cool to beat up on gay people back then. But in the '90s and 2000s, gay is a way of life. Just regular people with jobs. Now they are accepted, not classified. They just went through the same things we went through as black."

Seriously, Snoop?

This means that you're operating under MULTIPLE misconceptions, the most prominent being that gay men cannot be masculine.

Obviously, just like with heterosexuals, it's not either/or when it comes to masculinity and femininity, as EVERYONE embodies different ranges of both! In fact, we'd be VERY surprised if there wasn't at least one individual you perceive to be very masculine who is actually homosexual, regardless of whether or not he's open about it.

What's worse, however, is that you assume that if a football player is gay, then he must obviously be attracted to his teammates. Is that how you view all women you see?

Lastly, you point out the progress the LGBT community has made in the last two decades, and even go so far as to compare it to what African Americans endured in the past. Yet you don't think the rap community will continue to evolve and change their views as the rest of the world and its inhabitants do?

Not exactly the ideologies and perceptions regarding equal rights that we'd expect from someone who was recently Reincarnated, himself.

What do U think?? Was Snoop out of line here??

No, he wasn't out of line. You'd like to silence or condemn anyone who disagrees with you. That's out of line.

  2. 2

NOT that I agree …. perhaps this is not serious ignorance on Snoop Lion …. but he is stating what he believes is the fact … that in some area of the world … just have are very slow with change.

  3. phreshd says – reply to this

And here comes the hatred as soon as someone states the truth.. then gay people start talkin about how ignorant or how out dated he is .the gay communities are the real bullies

  4. Boo says – reply to this

Again, this is about tolerance. We tolerate what others believe, we don't have to agree with it. Sheesh, Perez. You have a son now. Hope you don't teach him that if others don't agree with him then they are wrong. How is that tolerant?

  5. Rose says – reply to this

Re: phreshd – This is true. Snoop really said, nothing derogatory, or unkind. He did not say, he decreed, or he desired, or he was promoting, this to be a case in point. He only observed and this was his observation. Expect more of this in the future, the militant velvet agenda.

  6. Armas50 says – reply to this

Perez, why are you judging & moralizing what others are doing? What gives you the right to judge others, whether or not they are doing something good, bad, or simply just stating an opinion? This is a gossip site, no one wants to hear about what your biased thinking/opinion. I enjoy this website, but whenever you judge people based on their opinion or actions (ex. Miley Cyrus smoking) it gets annoying because you seem to put yourself above them. We are all humans with flaws.

  7. 7

I honestly don't think he said anything that wrong, and to me he sounds quite fine with the lbgt community…I think his words were just a reflection on the prominent stereotypes around gay people. They are seen as less masculine…which would make it hard for them to fit into a very masculine world like hip hop. And as silly as it is, some straight men are uncomfortable around gay men because they're afraid they'll be hit on (and yeah, that's really stupid). I think he was just saying how it really is…and that it won't change anytime soon. It's the truth…sad but true.

  8. Paul says – reply to this

He is just stating his opinion. Do we still have freedom of speech in this country?

  9. karen says – reply to this

He's high all the time. Listen to him talk about anything & you can't figure out if he's for it or against it.

  10. will says – reply to this

seriously people?? yes, he has an opinion and freedom of speech means perez has the right to disagree. NOONE should TOLERATE someone spitting stupidity or hatred.

  11. dperez says – reply to this

Perez, dude as another gay man you need to sit down, Snoop is cool, he stated his observation and didn't say anything out of line and in some ways I agree with how he says the world and the rap community is now. Wy do you diss ANYONE who isn't waving a freaking pride flag? You need to sit down and realize that YOU are the one who is judging and being a bully now. Stop this way of thinking man, you have a child now and if this is how you are going to raise him, with this sort of mentality then I feel sorry for your child.

  12. 12

Frank Ocean is NOT a singer. He is one of the worst excuses for a musician I've seen since Kanye thought he was the business. It's shameful to put someone out there that's as bad as he is when there is a wealth of talented musicians out here that never get the time of day. Enough is enough and Snoop "Lion" can have several seats. I hope the Rastafarians whoop his a**

  13. Nick Stanley says – reply to this

I think you're making a lot of assumptions about Snoop's statement. He didn't say gays can't be masculine. I think he was more implying the brotherhood, fraternity type aspect of the male rap community. Like I'm gay, but I would make a lot of my straight friends uncomfortable if I suddenly was like, "I like you." So I see Snoop's point in that regard. Also, he didn't say a gay football player must be attracted to his roommates, he more implied that it's possible. Don't tell me you're never been attracted to a straight guy Perez. That possibility can make some straight guys unstandably uncomfortable. I find it awkward when a straight girl hits on me. I don't think he's against gay rappers. There are just some places where we should keep our sexuality to ourselves. Like the locker room, for example.

  14. danychix says – reply to this

He's so in line and you're so outta line cos u a Crazy gay ass dude. You support who supports ur crazy abomination and slam who doesn't. *AssHole*

  15. 15

This is why Obama is president…

  16. Yoo too says – reply to this

he said it would be harder in the rap industry because rap is masculine. Its similar to a football team because the sport is masculine. Not because gays can't be masculine…. Just maybe harder to accept to some people. At least that's what I think he means..

  17. 17

Perez has a problem with the TRUTH.

  18. tacogirl says – reply to this

He's 100% Right you idiot! Being gay is Not what one would call a super-masculine trait, and he's right about football, rap. You may not like it…but oh, well. You live in your own bubble. AND you're in LA, if you lived in some town in the midwest you would probably be more open minded regarding Acceptance….just common sense. Idiot.

  19. Gemma says – reply to this

No, Snoop was not out of line. He was being honest. A gay rapper might do well with a gay fanbase, but no way they could go mainstream at this time. Snoop is all about love and being honest, so just chill, Perez.

  20. kcakes says – reply to this

he was NOT out of line I think you mr perez are jumping the gun and hoping people will follow. Everyone can state their opinion and fact is back then it wasn't as accepted as it is now. the world is becoming more accepting and only time will make everyone more accepting and aware.

  21. George says – reply to this

I won't speak for all gay men, but Perez… have you ever listened to yourself talk? There is nothing masculine about you at all. If ignorance exists in the rap community about homosexuality, it is because of people like you.

  22. PEREZ THE HIPPOcrit says – reply to this

Perez, if you want to discuss "ignorance" when discussing homosexuality, you should take a look in the mirror at yourself. Case in point: exhibit A:

  23. PEREZ THE HIPPOcrit says – reply to this

…Perez takes pot shots at Snoop, but turns a blind eye for profit by promoting Orson Scott Card, the writer of "Ender's Game", who is on the Board of Directors of the right-leaning "National Organization for Marriage"… which has been at the forefront of opposing same-sex marriage laws. In 2009, Orson penned an opinion piece for the Mormon Times in which he argued: “Marriage has only one definition, and any government that attempts to change it is my mortal enemy. I will act to destroy that government and bring it down." In another column last year, he called homosexuality a “reproductive dysfunction” born of choice.

  24. Maya says – reply to this

Oh, shut the heck up. What about your ignorance & instant condemnation of any view that differs to your own? He said nothing but his own opinion, which wasn't homophobic or mocking. He gave his opinion. So stfu. Sometimes I think you'll only be happy if the whole world becomes homosexual.

  25. tasha says – reply to this

You help to perpetuate some of what he said because you drool and act all sexual about obvious straight males. So his statement: What's worse, however, is that you assume that if a football player is gay, then he must obviously be attracted to his teammates, would pertain to you. If that isn't true then stop drooling and making sexual remarks about straight male celebrities.

  26. yes please says – reply to this

The afrcian american is largely ignorant when it comes to gays and lesbians…that is why so many are on the down low…sad that another minority looks upon another minority…TOTAL ignorance…when will we ever learn that we are all people and to be kind and accepting? I swear people amaze me on how stupid they are…including Snoop….he is ignorant as they come…sloooooooow to evolve….sad. Just look at all the genocide and holocausts that have existed because of intolerance…WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!

  27. 27

What the hell knows this CRACKHEAD any way?

  28. nope says – reply to this

Re: phreshd – Bullies? I suggest you get some education of history….you are ignorant. Look at the genocide and holocausts that has happened….Is it BULLYING to tell people to get an education and open their eyes? Wow….gays were killed and are still killed for being who they are….If you want to call it "bullying" to educate- you deserve to be bullied….you like many in america are simply stupid…

  29. the the says – reply to this

Re: Rose – EDUCATE people like him…not condemn…I bet many of you who are anti-gay are not educated…have you gone to college? Have you any knowledge of the intolerance in this world and the millions who have been killed simply because they were different? THIS kind of thinking that Snoop has is very dangerous…it leads to other things and a mind-set that causes harm….He is stupid and uneducated…simple as that…

hes not saying anything wrong. and if you anything about snoop, hes stands up for gay marriage/rights. as far as rappers go, snoop is far from ignorant.

Re: will – Aren't you an ignorant idiot too!

  33. 33

Ok snoop said something big whoop. Have you been to boston ma.the gays here is fucked up . On pride day here there is two one for the whites and one for the blacks. Yeah i'm gay and i dont feel united here and neither does most blacks here we go to new york. Even t.v. Doesn't show us right. Even you to a degree perez you showcase all the whites and no blacks or latins…..SHAME ON YOU. As to snoop to each his own. I still buy his cd.

  34. 34

in youtube today I found leaked version of Snoop Lion new album in good quality :) goo .gl/QkTQX or you can search in youtube:))

  35. lala says – reply to this

I agree with Snoop and he has quite a valid point, Perez just has tunnel vision when it comes to anything even remotely hinted as anti gay (which in this case wasnt).

  36. Ben Savage says – reply to this

You've literally gone from being a funny gay guy with a fun website to the most annoying and petulant gay man I can think of. You're one of the gays doing the most damage to gays.

I check out every attractive woman. I can totally understand why they don't want me in their locker room. Why is it so hard to imagine that straight guys don't want gay guys in their locker room? It has nothing to do with intolerance, it's simply uncomfortable and the reasoning is the same as women have for not wanting men in their locker room.

Perez, dude, you objectify every male. I'm fine with you being gay, but I definitely don't want you in my locker room.

  37. Zoe says – reply to this

Okay, some people commenting here are seriously ignorant. What Snoop Dog said was also very ignorant. "Now they are accepted, not classified." This is under the assumption that LGBT people don't face discrimination, homophobia (a term which, in itself, I believe to be a bit outdated. I prefer to use 'heterosexism' but many people don't understand that), and many other horrible things - which we do. Ever heard of a little thing called the Westboro Baptist Church? Or how about the fact that DOMA still exists? Or the suicide rates of LGBT teens compared to all teens. The world still has a long way to go in terms of acceptance. And thank you for pointing out that gay people aren't attracted to every single person of their gender - a lot of people seem to miss that.

  38. 38

It doesn't show his lack of knowledge of the LGBT community..it shows YOUR lack of knowledge of the rap community.

  39. 39

perez is very masculine how dare u

  40. Andre says – reply to this

Seriously perez… chill out! He's just saying he doesn't think it will happen… he's not saying it shouldn't happen! That puts a very different take on what he's saying. Don't put the blame on him! You get so touchy with this topic, which i totally get… but sometimes you get so emotional it seems that you don't see or hear what people are saying logically.

  41. fireballwhit says – reply to this

Re: the the – Ok, the fact that you are saying that most people that are anti-gay are uneducated shows just how stupid you are. I don't believe in homosexuality and it has nothing to do with education. Just because someone doesn't agree with it doesn't mean they're wrong. I think that you are wrong. It has nothing to do with being ignorant or old fashioned. I am neither but I do not agree with homosexuality and I never will. That is my opinion and I am entitled to it without being bullied and Snoop shouldn't be bullied either for his opinion.

  42. fireballwhit says – reply to this

Re: the the – Also, you said: THIS kind of thinking that Snoop has is very dangerous…it leads to other things and a mind-set that causes harm….He is stupid and uneducated…simple as that… This is extremely ignorant to say that he is stupid and uneducated and what he is saying is dangerous. I believe that homosexuality is what's extremely harmful and dangerous to our society. You may think my saying that is "ignorant" but one day you will see.

  43. fireballwhit says – reply to this

Perez……get a life. Everyone doesn't agree with you and everyone doesn't think being gay is okay. It doesn't mean they're wrong or ignorant. I'm sure you would be just find with bullying and berating a christian person because they don't believe what you believe. You act as though you want equality, but you want much more. STOP BULLYING people who don't agree with who you are. Get over it. Get over yourself. You're sad.

  44. 44

i just figured most rappers are on the down low. any man that has to constantly brag about how many women they fuck or how tough they are are actually insecure about their masculinity. plus i don't think most gay people are really wasting any sleep over being accepted by rappers. who would care what a group of materialistic, misogynistic, socially ignorant fools think.

  45. @v@ says – reply to this

I think he's just calling it as he sees it right now. Currently. That doesn't mean he takes one side or another. There are going to be a ton of nuances that us straight people don't know about. It'll come, because gays are everywhere and people will learn about them over time I guess.

  47. 47

Re: @v@ – oh that makes me feel so much better. i guess us gays will just have to be patent until heteros can figure out all our little "nuances". LOL!!! you know what, gay people have been here since the beginning of time and will be here until the end of time and nothing will ever change that fact!!!! just give us the rights and respect every taxpaying, law abiding HUMAN deserves and then we won't give a shit about what you think about us. i don't give a fuck about what you do in your bedroom so stay the hell out of mine.

  48. @v@ says – reply to this

Re: AttFinch – You're preaching to the choir. Gays have had rights for decades where I am, and even though I'm straight, I supported that just like I supported the civil rights movement, because it was the right thing to do. I just don't think Snoop crossed a line by saying what he thinks. It doesn't mean that he supports how it is. It means he has an insider view of the rap culture. I also think there's a lot Snoop doesn't see.

  49. 49

well i already thought Ashtrays and Heartbreaks was idiotic considering the smoking commercials that come on Tv every freakin day. but mannnn, he should have been in a media class i had to take. whole section about the INHERENT HOMOEROTICISM IN RAP SONGS. everything is about telling the boys, bonding with them, dicks over chicks and all that shit. if you think about it half of them seem closer with each other than their "hoez." the 1's who are like that anyway but i would just love to hear a response explaining the success of FEM RAPPERS dating all the way back to Salt N Pepa. his attitude's dumb as they come

  50. kristi276 says – reply to this

Gays are weak. Straight men are strong. Gays are White and there are no Black Gay men; like those from GMAD (Gay men of African Decent). There are many Black, Latin, Asian and Native "gay, lesbian, Bi and Trans" organizations, and they include ones who were combat vets. Is the Gay community trying to force anyone to accept us as human, or have a Gay Agenda? If Rap is so macho why are there women who are Rappers? Are all the macho women lesbians?

  51. 51

I don't think what he said was meant to be offensive, I think maybe he didn't phrase things in a way that was careful and well thought out, but I get what he is trying to say and I don't think it's meant to be negative or offensive at all.

  52. V.V says – reply to this

He's simply saying that these are the common reasons its so difficult for rappers and athletes to be open about their sexuality. At the end of the day people see gay men as effeminate and weak, just because its offensive doesn't mean its not true. Its about changing the perception of homosexuality and weakness do not go hand in hand. Just cus the man has an option does not make him a bad person. He displayed no kind of hate or intolerance.

Perez is an oober sensitive idiot. Snoop said nothing wrong at all. I am gay and proud of it. I see nothing wrong with what snoop said. It was popular to beat up gays….. sorry just fact.

  57. 57

Anyone not sharing your opinion is horrible and wrong. Preaching tolerance yet showing none.

  58. 58

I don't think Snoop was out of line, I think he was just being realistic about the industry, and as far as the football team comment, he wasn't being literal, he was just giving an example of how it wouldn't go down well in that environment.

  62. VSfan88 says – reply to this

You must be an idiot if you didn't get the fact that he was rather talking about the attitude towards homosexuality in a masculine-orientated business and not his personal opinion about gays. And the perception that gay men are weak is still omnipresent. Since when do people think of gay men as strong men? This is the 21st century and not ancient Rome.

Absolutely disgusting .. And I am shocked by others comments .. He didn't say anything that wrong ? Well you guys obviously didn't read his statement.
