James McAvoy Stops Live Macbeth Performance To Keep Audience Member From Filming!

James McAvoy does NOT appreciate interruptions. Particularly during theatre performances.

The Scottish actor, who has taken up the role of the murderous king in Shakespeare’s Macbeth, paused the Trafalgar Studios' live theatre performance in London to keep an audience member from filming the the play on his phone! YIKES!

The last time James stepped out of character during this production — yep, he’s done this more than once — he played hero to a theatre-goer who had collapsed!

Trafalgar Studios released the following statement:

"An audience member was caught filming by the actor James McAvoy. The filming disrupted the production of Macbeth, forcing James McAvoy to respond to audience member by asking them to stop filming immediately. The production then continued as planned once the camera was put away."

Okay, but really, can you blame him?? We’d be pretty pissed, too. Do what you gotta do, James!

As a fellow stage actor, I have very mixed feelings about this. While it is NEVER ok to film a production unless proper warning is given to all the actors by production, it is also never ok to leave character. Isn't that also disrupting the production? But at the same time, I too would be pissed and it would be hard not to say something. It would be nice for the usher's to be on their game before an actor needs to take things into their own hands.

I think it is incredibly unprofessional of James to step out of character to do this. I think it ridiculous and a complete lack of respect for the audience. They're not paparazzi. They paid to see him perform, not to see him tell someone to turn of their cellphone off. Security was supposed to do that, not him. What a shame because he's a great Actor. Although I stopped being a fan of his when he sold out to film WANTED with skank-coke-whore jolie and then started making commercial films after that. His last serious films were LAST KING OF SCOTLAND and ATONEMENT.

How quickly people are to criticize. For all you know that person who was filming WAS distracting the audience. It would distract me, especially if I was sitting near them as the help their stupid phone up with its bright screen to ILLEGALLY film something I paid to see w/o those kind of distractions. I actually respect McAvoy even more for stopping the idiot.
